Cant believe i managed to get a ticket for this after being unsuccessful in the original ballot! As the days have gone on this week iv become more and more optimistic.

I think we can nick it tomorrow 2-1!!

    Come on United!!!

Think Mata will be dropped and Fellaini will come in for him and Herrera will push up one! Adds height and tightens our midfield.

Does it though? That's the main thing keeping him out of my prediction, as I'm not sure he does. He had a decent 45mins in a box to box role against a West Brom team that we were dominating for possession. Chelsea are a completely different animal.

If Carrick and Valencia aren't available then Jones has to play in midfield with Smalling coming in for him in defence, can't stress enough how we need physicality in midfield for us to be difficult to break down. Fellaini, whilst physically imposing, is not the best positionally so Fabregas, Oscar and Matic will run rings around him exposing Blind. We will have to play a blinder to get anything from this game, imo.

The good thing about us this season is that we're pretty flexible. Although some might have an idea, no one 100% knows what system Van Gaal will go with tomorrow. Will he opt for the 4141 we played last week against West Brom, will he go back to the diamond or maybe we will go back to 3 at the back? There's a number of systems we can go with, whereas, we know Mourinho will go for the 4231, so I guess we've been working in training how to stop them. Whatever we go with, I honestly think we have a really good chance tomorrow, especially being at home. On our day, our attack can hurt any team.

Agree with this. Just wish we would play with more confidence. I still maintain this is our biggest problem. It's the mentality that's letting us down. We need to be tough mentally and I'm pretty sure we'll be on our way, regardless of the defensive issues at the moment which I'm pretty sure LVG is looking to address in the January window.

We can definitely get at Chelsea - they've conceded a goal a game in the league so far. Cahill is not a top quality defender and Luis has looked pretty fragile to say the least - the way Zaha brushed past him last week with ease was great to see. Ivanovic loves to fly forward and should allow Di Maria lots of room in behind him. If Mourinho plays Oscar and Fabregas centrally then Matic will have a lot of work to get through and the diamond formation may help us in this regard - I'd be tempted to drop Mata for Fellaini and play Fellaini in behind Falcao and RVP.

I'm certain we'll score (we've scored at least twice in every game since the transfer window closed), the question is whether they can score at least twice. I do hope they rush Costa back like Simeone did and end up having to substitute him after 5 minutes and be forced to play Drogba or Schurrle (I like Schurrle but think he's less effective when he plays up front, he's better running from deep).

Having said all that, I think Chelsea will win whether Costa plays or not. Play this game in 6 months time and we'd have a much better chance. I'm not Rooney's biggest fan but he would have been a much better option than anything else we've got in games like these.

    What I want to see:
    ----------------ddg---------------
    -rafael---jones----rojo-----shaw
    -------fellaini----blind-----------
    --herrera----------------di maria-
    -------------mata---------------
    ------------falcao---------------

    What LvG will put out:
    -------------------ddg--------------
    -rafael----jones----rojo--------shaw
    ---------fellaini---blind--------------
    --herrera-----------------di maria--
    -----------rvp------falcao-----------

I hope we dig in to get a lucky win. Will make this weekend bloody awesome. Considering the results city and 'pool got.
If we win this, it will give us the confidence to go for a win against a struggling city.
Two straight wins(highly improbable) and we see ourselves over City, Arsenal, Pool and Spurs. That will be great for us.

I don't understand these kind of posts.

A kid who has played 2 games, over a much more experienced player?

They seem pretty confident over on The Shed

    reckon it'll be one of.

    My Fav:
    -----------------DDG------------------
    Rafa-----Jones-------Rojo-------Shaw
    -----------Herrera-------Blind---------
    Janujaz---------Fellaini-------Di Mara
    ------------------Falcao------------------

    or

    -----------------DDG------------------
    Rafa-----Jones-------Rojo-------Shaw
    -----------------Blind------------------
    ---Herrera-----Fellaini------Di Mara--
    --------------RVP------Falcao------------

Mata's just not taken his chance, and we need height hence Fellaini, when Chelsea attack Herrera, Blind, and Fellaini (if he can get back in time) should offer a decent shield to our defence.

This game reminds me of the Arsenal game at Old Trafford last season, no one gave us a hope of winning but we pulled out an impressive performance to beat them 1-0 with a RVP header. This Chelsea team are much stronger but VG has proven in big games that he knows out to stop teams from here

Can see us getting a point at the very least and I reckon Mourinho won't be too disappointed with that either, he knows we are a team capable of hurting his on the day.

    1-1 Draw for me

I'd be tempted to add Jones in the midfield. We're going to be defending a fair bit, but we're also at home, so him putting out fires allows Blind to pull the strings and Di Maria to counter. Is Smalling even fit?

17 hours and 26 minutes. Looking forward to this game so we can compare ourselves with top sides and see where we are as a team.

van Persie own us fans a huge match. Hopefully he scores the winner in overtime. Falcao must start. He' absolutely a beast. Would definitely be a tuff option for Terry and Cahill to manage.

Apparently falcao got a knock in training on Friday and Van gaal will have to wait and see if he's fit enough to make it. Feck.
So probably something like this then:
    De Gea
    Rafael Jones rojo Shaw
    Blind herrera
    Januzaj mata di maria
    Van Persie
Still don't think mata will play, but not sure who else. Fellaini maybe?

Yes seriously. Why? The kid looks far more composed than I've seen Smalling do for a long time.
Lmao I like McNair but he would get eaten alive by hazard, Costa (or if he's injured Drogba)

Frustrating if Falcao is out tomorrow, going to make it even harder. Definitely can not be carrying any passengers so i would drop Mata for this. I wouldn't even mind seeing a 442 with Valenica and ADM on the wings with RVP and Wilson up top, at least that way with Wilson you know he will give absolutely everything and will be fearless.

    Yep.

Fellaini is not what we need tomorrow, he'll end up with a Red for elbowing or something.
Fellaini is the best option if you want to sure up midfield and he will give a different option for the team while suring up midfield more.

I may just have a short memory but I can't remember looking forward to a match less than this. I honestly think we're gonna get battered.

I don't understand the Herrera additions. Isn't he still injured? Putting him in last week was a bit counter productive. Also, as much as I would like to think that Mata would come in with something to prove against his former team, I don't know that I would rely on that to be honest. I would put whatever striker we have with Di Maria behind him. As much as I don't like them, I think we might have some wing play from Valencia and Young for their speed and workrate at the back. I think we may have to deeper center midfielders with Blind and either Carrick/Fellaini/or Herrera if he really is healthy.

I am pretty curious to what approach LVG takes into this game. Don't think we'll get battered at all. Too many ppl underrating us even.

Carrick is not fit so my lineup is exactly like yours except for Fellaini instead of Carrick. Fellaini and Blind will provide good cover for our defence.

I think RVP is more of a passenger than Mata these days. So I would drop RVP and start Falcao up front. I hope LVG goes with this.

I'm the complete opposite. I'm buzzing for this and I honestly think we're going to put in a fantastic performance. The City game next week is another thing altogether. Even if we win tomorrow, that can all be undone in the matter of a week.

    HELLO
People are going a bit OTT on the RvP criticism.

It's a difficult selection. Ideally you'd go for more defensively secure midfielders but Carrick is injured. Fellaini being a good idea in a match like this was exposed last season in both matches against City. Valencia would normally be selected for a match like this - is he available? Can even see us going back to 5 at the back considering our lack of midfield options.
