I think a lot of people are giving Chelsea far too much respect. They're away from home, have lost their best player, haven't had so long with their manager, and overall just don't have a team that frightens me in the least.

I'd say we're comfortably favorites for this match.

Think we'll beat them, from the bit i caught of their preseason they looked poor. A very good time to play them really.

Got a big feeling it'll be this

    Martial

    Rashford Mata Lingard

    Pogba Mctominay

    Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB

    De Gea

Ole won't throw any kids in for the first game even though they could handle it. Gomes and James will come off the bench probably with Pereira. We can beat these though with that team, 2-0 I think.

He'll of done very little work with us though. Big risk to throw him straight in especially given his position. Not saying it wont happen but I just think it's unlikely
The most expensive CB in the history of football, will play every game he is fit to play in. You can bank on this.
    Maguire will start against Chelsea.

I still remember when we first signed Pogba. He did no pre-season. He played in the first match and he was the best player in the pitch. Pre-season means little when you have such a huge reputation. I expect Maguire to be our best defender when we play Chelsea.

    Think it will be -
    -------------------ddg
    Awb--lindelof--maguire-shaw
    -------mctominay--pogba
    --james-------lingard-------martial
    ---------------rashford

    Would go with

    ------------ddg
    Awb-smalling--maguire--shaw
    -----------------matic
    ----mctominay----periera
    ------------------pogba
    -------greenwood---rashford

Picked smalling over lindelof as it looks like abraham will get the nod as Chelsea's striker up top and think smalling is better equipped at handling strikers like him over lindelof, would use matic as he's the only deep lying play maker we have at potentially pulling the strings like jorginho does for chelsea with periera and mctominay as the work horses covering the ground in midfield for matic lack of mobility and legs, Allow pogba to play further to the attack and the freedom to roam as he is one of the few in the team that can get into double digits with goals.

Pogba played in midfield, lot less risky than throwing in a CB with little prep

Can see us coming victorious out of this fixture, and truly hope so. Scoreline: 2-0
my starting XI prediction would be:

    -------------------------De Gea
    ---W.Bisakka -- Smalling -- Lindelöf -- Shaw
    ------------ McTomminay --- Pogba
    ----------Lingard ----- Pereira ----- Rashford
    -------------------------Martial

 He didn't, he was suspended for the Bournemouth game.

I don't think Ole will throw in the youngsters like he has in preseason.

    DDG
    AWB- Maguire-Lindelof-Shaw
    Pogba-Matic
    Mata- Lingard- Martial
    Rashford

James, Fred and Greenwood to come off the bench.
this will be the lineup. Mata, Matic, Lingard are all not good enough to start. Sums up the failings of the window.

If we don't sign a midfielder and attacker we will lose this. It will be a long season and I our lack of creativity and finishing will cost us time and time again.
    Completely agree.

I would expect to see a 4231 as we've been seeing throughout preseason.

    De Gea

    AWB
    Maguire
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    McTominay
    Pogba

    James
    Mata
    Rashford

    Martial

James could easily lose his place to Lingard or Greenwood. But I'd imagine the formation will be the same. I expect us to win by 2 goals or more.

Would love to see something like this:
    DDG
    Wan Bissaka-Lindelof-Maguire-Shaw
    McTominay
    Gomes-Pogba
    Greenwood-Martial-James
becoming a 4-2-3-1 when pressing and as above when in possession.
However it's likely we will see Lingard instead of Gomes and Mata instead of Greenwood. Rashford on the left too.

I have a strange feeling that, despite playing a 4-2-3-1 all preseason, we may go with a 4-3-3. If we do play a #10, it'll be Lingard. I also think we won't want to throw Maguire in straight away, especially as our central defenders have all looked pretty decent in preseason, but I guess it depends on how he gets on in training this week. He may be fine with Shaw alongside him, and he's a good pro so I'm sure he's in decent shape. A lot will depend on who we think Chelsea will start with up top.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Jones - Shaw
    Matic
    McTominay - Pogba

    Lingard - Martial - Rashford

    or

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Jones - Shaw
    McTominay - Pogba
    James - Lingard - Rashford
    Martial
Either way, I think we'll want a midfield with work rate and use Mata/Greenwood/Gomes/Pereira from the bench if we need to chase the game.

James and Greenwood ahead of Rashford? Really?

They've lost Hazard, Kanté could be out and they've had a sh*t preseason. We're not in amazing shape (especially in midfield) but there's really no reason to be that negative.

I'm realllllly looking forward to going to this one, I think we'll win 2-1 or 3-1.

Their best defender Rudiger is also out, so we're playing them at a great moment. They've even got Liverpool in the Super Cup three days later!

Yeah man, not to mention no Hudson-Odoi and likely starting Abraham up top who's yet to impress at PL level. I don't think there's any reason not to back us at home against this side.

People will moan about first XI then certain type will pop with usual "CAF not happy with a line up = good sign" nonsense. Next, we will have those fake calm and collected asshats floating around calling others moaners, drama queens etc. Kick off.

Not expecting anything special, we might win at the end.

    I'd say the following line-up

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred Pogba
    Greenwood Rashford
    Martial
Bench: Romero, Mata, Young, Tuanzebe, Gomez, James, Chong

Think we will win because Chelsea have problems as well. They need to win to give them a boost at the start of the season.

I can't see us winning to be honest. They will piss all over us in midfield. 1-2 I think. Maybe we can defend for a 0-0.

    Hope it is

    Strongest back 5 (we know)
    McPog midfield
    James lingard rashford
    _______martial

I think a team like that vs a fairly inexperienced manager will be a challenge for him. We will make plenty of chances it's just if we have the focus to put them away.

Mata played well all 3 times he played against Chelsea last year (and scored in the last fixture against them) so he'll probably start... will probably be a diamond with Matic/McT/Pogba and him, with Rashford and Martial upfront.

    @FootyGirl88 totally agree.

He had 1 decent pre season game but the dross he's delivered over the last 12 months seems to have been forgotten.

He's had enough chances to prove himself. Bring him off the bench by all means but he shouldn't start imho.

Thinking we're going to see something like this as it stands:

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    McTominay Pogba
    Lingard
    Rashford Martial

Would like to see Dan James over Matic and play 4231. Lingard might play out wide and keep drifting in like what we've done with the RW position for years. Reckon James will come on for Lingard though and we'll play 433 in the latter stages of the game.

I'm just looking at ' The Squad ' on the right hand side of the page....

Has there ever been a time when we ( or anyone else, for that matter ) had a ' Squad ' of 34 potential first team players ?

No wonder our overall wage bill is probably the highest in Europe, if not the World.
