Ten Haag doesnt change teams unless he's forced to. I expect one or two changes max.

In an ideal world the fringe players like Maguire/McTom get 90 mins for their match sharpness/fitness and the younger players Garnacho/Pellistri/Hojlund/Hannibal/Mainoo get 90 minutes to prove themselves. But with all the injuries it's just a matter of fielding a fit 11.

Considering United play Palace in the league next, I think its important to play 2 different sides...or different enough, so that Palace don't get comfortable in the first match and then grab a point in the second.

So I'd keep the trio of Bruno/Casemiro/Rashford on the bench and just pick a team from who else is fit.

Amrabat, Garnacho, Pellestri must, must start.. Evans too, Varane if fit, Mejbri, Rasmus. Play them all for 90mins.

ETH would be crazy to play Rashford and Bruno.

Whatever the outcome of this match, I hope that we don’t get any more injuries, particularly of a senior player.

I think we should "tank" this game - rest the key players and try some younger, newer, or crappier ones.

Rest Bruno, Hojlund, Varane, Lisandro, Casemiro, Rashford. Or give them max 30 minutes, like a more intense, shorter training session. Especially Hojlund, since his minutes need to be carefully managed(load management) because of that potential back issues stuff.

We have to play the only two fullbacks we have available(Dalot and Regulion), that is going to absolutely kill us this year until Shaw, Wan-Bissaka come back two months from now. Plus Malacia, don't know what's happening with him, haven't heard anything about him in ages.

Start the two between Evans, Maguire, Lindelof. Then Amrabat, Hannibal, Eriksen/McTominay or maybe Mount if he's ready for some minutes. Pellistri and Garnacho on the wings(full game for both of them, definitely) and then try to force Martial to play full 90 minutes(I know it sounds impossible). If not substitute him for Rashford at around usual 60th minute mark. We can try the new Turkish goalkeeper(Bayindir) also, but I wouldn't mind seeing Onana, I guess - it's the same for me.

Losing this game would be pretty insignificant considering all the on and off the pitch issues we have at the moment. We won that trophy already last season, anyway. If we win this game, great, whatever. Then match we have against this same very opponent(on the same stadium even) on Saturday is much, much more significant. Then, we go full strength.

But I suspect that ETH is not going to do what I suggested above and he's going to go full strength, totally unnecessarily and he's going to piss me of. Which could make injury crisis that we have even worse than it already is, if it's even realistically possible(theoretically sure is...).

Would hope for most players rested, but I don't think we have that luxury! We just don't have enough players available.

    Onana
    Lindelof Varane Evans Dalot
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Pellistri Hannibal Garnacho
    Hojlund

I'm thinking something like this, with Amrabat, McTominay, and Martial coming on. I could also see Amrabat starting at Right Back and Varane not risked to start until the weekend fixture (bringing him in for the last half hour).

Bruno always plays, Rashford is seemingly being trusted to play into form (but maybe he is going to be a little shaken or stiff from the accident so could be given the night off).

As much as I want us to take minimal risk with important players, we need to get some momentum and have a winning run for the rest of this month and most of next if we want to achieve much this season.

Have you watched us this season? If we go with that plan then our first team will be on the pitch for at least 80 minutes as we’re certainly not getting the job done early. We’ll be lucky to finish the game two goals up, never mind doing that by halftime.
I said it should be an incentive. If the players are going to be moaning about having to play, they should be motivated to want to get the job done early so that the manager can hook them as early as possible.

Buy some time off for Bruno and Rashford.

    Bayindir
    Dalot Varane Evans Reguilon

Play the kids. I have no doubt one of the main reasons we have so many injuries currently is because we played our strongest team in every bloody (cup) game last season.
We won the Mickey Mouse cup recently, winning it again will hardly mean anything. Focus on league and CL games.

Our top players played more than any other player after the WC, and the players look tired even now.

I will be pissed if we do not rest out best players this match. PL and UCL should be prio this year.

we were gassed by end of last year due to going full strength in every comp, and this year we have UCL to focus on as well. Players are already looking gassed, def need to rotate a bit. Case 100 percent should get the game off. Garnacho obviously should start for rashford as well. Wouldve been a chance for sancho to shine if he wasnt so dumb, so good spot for pellistri to show a little bit as well hopefully.

No, you don't understand, we must go all out every single game all the time, rest no one ever, even in Mickey Mouse cups, so that we can complain about our bad luck with injuries after that.

I agree, though if you look at the injuries... that argument only holds for Shaw, Varane and Martinez (I thought the same). Wan Bissaka and Dalot were rotated pretty evenly, Malacia didnt play more than squad player minutes, amrabat, hojlund, Mainoo, amad and mount weren't here (and reguilon now if hurt). Martinez had a freak injury imo, Varane has his usual muscle injury, Shaw is match overload on his leg due to previous injury. Bad luck moreso.

Don't really understand the logic behind heavy rotation and using youngsters. We are much more in need of consistency, gelling the team, and stringing wins together than resting players.
Think it's more injury prevention, we are very thin in defence particularly - let's say Casemiro is added to the injury list on top of this then we're in huge trouble.

I still remember that last Palace 2-1 win. Their winner was absolute peach.

Can't wait for us to rest players, like everyone wants, lose to a full strength Palace side, with everybody having a meltdown after.

From the training footage it looks like Varane and Mount are fit for this one, plus Maguire...Which will help. Don't make the obvious joke!

Be nice to see a Amrabat/Mount midfield with either Hannibal/Eriksen.

Have to gamble and make wholesale changes, use this game to give minutes to those returning from injury and playing time to the likes of Pellestri, Garnacho, Martial etc.

Exactly! So, "playing the kids" or "resting everyone" clearly not an option then.
No but resting some keyplayers is necessary - the match on saturday is more important than this. I would rest 3-4 players

I didn't say some players shouldn't be rested, that's just common sense. But starting a whole new XI is just ridiculous. We're only six league games into the season and we're not at 100% anyway so they all need the runout anyway.

Who can we play to rest our fullbacks? Lindelof at RB perhaps and Maguire/Evans CB pairing? Not sure who can cover LB so Reguilon may need to play.

Don’t want to see Casemiro, Bruno or Rashford anywhere near this match.

Kinda assuming Mount is not match fit. If he is, swap him for Eriksen.

It isn't a great team tbh, will probably lose unless perhaps Palace name a reserve XI, but with all things considered it is hard to care about the league cup this year.

Would be nice to see Shoretire and Mejia on the bench.

Should play an audacious team like Sir Alex had a tendency to do in the first few rounds, don't really care if we go out. We need the rest we can get if we're progressing in the CL and getting our season back on track.

Think we’ll do these twice this week. Rotate a little bit, keep players fresh and motivated. Players I want to see start. Amrabat, Garnacho, pellistri, Hojlund.

Would like to see Amrabat starting and Garnacho. Pellisrti on the right wing. I’d also like to see the new sub goalkeeper starting but ten Hag played de gea in almost every game last season so I can’t see Onana not starting. Is E. Fernandez injured? Hasn’t seen him mentioned as a potential starting left back.
‘A’ Fernandez is in Spain. Will be for a year.

Okay … easy enough this. Who needs resting? Well the defence that played Saturday. Bruno and Cas. Eriksen too gets a rest. Amrabat could do with minutes. I’d play Mejbri, McT, maybe Garnacho … Donny, Pellestri. Rashford. Fine. Back four of … mr x, maguire, lindelof, AwB. If totally necessary I’d dig up Phil Jones.

Expecting to see something like this with Dalot and Reguilon getting a half each, Varane getting some more minutes and Mount & McTominay coming in for Amrabat & Eriksen in the second half.
