    Know The Opposition

Everton Football Club (nicknamed The Toffees and The Blues) are a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Everton were founded as St Domingo FC in 1878 so that members of the congregation of St Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel in Breckfield Road North, Everton could play sport year round – cricket was played in summer. The club's first game was a 1–0 victory over Everton Church Club. The club was renamed Everton in November 1879 after the local area, as people outside the congregation wished to participate. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888–89 and won their first League Championship title in the 1890–91 season. Everton won the FA Cup for the first time in 1906 and the League Championship again in 1914–15. The outbreak of the First World War in 1914 interrupted the football programme while Everton were champions, which was something that would again occur in 1939.

It was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began. In 1925 the club signed Dixie Dean from Tranmere Rovers. In 1927–28, Dean set the record for top-flight league goals in a single season with 60 goals in 39 league games, which is a record that still stands. He helped Everton win their third League Championship that season. Everton's second successful era started when Harry Catterick was made manager in 1961. In 1962–63, his second season in charge, Everton won the League Championship. In 1966 the club won the FA Cup with a 3–2 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Everton again reached the final in 1968, but this time were unable to overcome West Bromwich Albion at Wembley. Two seasons later in 1969–70, Everton won the League Championship, finishing nine points clear of nearest rivals Leeds United. During this period, Everton were the first English club to achieve five consecutive years in European competitions – covering the seasons from 1961–62 to 1966–67. Howard Kendall took over as manager and guided Everton to their most successful era. Domestically, Everton won the FA Cup in 1984 and two League Championships in 1984–85 and 1986–87. In Europe, the club won its first, and so far only, European trophy by securing the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985.

All in all, Everton have won 15 major trophies: the League Championship nine times (fourth most as of 2017–18), the FA Cup five times (ninth most) and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup once. The club have also competed in the top division for a record 114 seasons, missing the top division only four times (1930–31 and three consecutive seasons starting with 1951–52). Everton have play their homes games at Goodison Park since 1892, after moving from Anfield following a row over its rent. Their biggest rivals are neighbors Liverpool, against whom they contest the Merseryside Derby.

Win this and we go 6 points clear of Spurs, same amount of games played, and they then have to face both Brighton and Newcastle before we play each other.

One more game and then we've got a midfield again. I'd be tempted to play all of Fred, McTominay, Sabitzer and shunt Bruno wide. Rashford up top and Tony on as soon as he can handle it.

If Doucoure wasn’t an idiot and didn’t get sent off and we were at home I’d fancy us. As neither of these things are the case I expect us to lose.

I still hate Everton for that season where they had Fellaini and equalised right at the end. We ended up losing the title on GD because of those game raising cnuts.

My least favorite manager in sports. Dyche will get them kicking ankles and punching kidneys. The old squad talk of calling the other team a bunch of C's. I want them relegated just so he's gone from the Prem.

Hope none of our guys get hurt.

Varane will likely be rested with Sevilla in mind. Think this game will suit Maguire over Lindelof. Dycheball will have us defending a lot of aerial balls in our own box.

Reckon Ten Hag will continue to manage Martial's minutes carefully and bring him on after 60-70 mins. Too soon to expect him to start just yet.

I remember going to a United vs Burnley game a few years ago where I was sat behind the dugout and noticed Dyche was constantly shouting for every 50/50 challenge to be given as a free kick to Burnley. They ended up scoring from the old Dyche method of pumping a free kick from the half way line into the mixer and winning the second ball. They won 2-0. Proper energy-sapping stuff.

Prefer Wout to start this because of the physicality of the game and it's Sean Dyche's team so obviously.....

We bottled it. Hardly Everton's fault. Disgraceful the way we ended that year.

You want to start the game with 10 men? Interesting

Yeah and that 3-3 in 20/21 when Calvert-Lewin equalised with pretty much last kick

I think there’ll have to be some rotation given the fast turnaround between this and last nights game! Malacia, Maguire, Fred, AWB and Martial to come in for Shaw, Varane, Sabitzer, Dalot and Sancho

Is he a big miss for you, like Casemiro for us??
Not quite. I would say Iwobi and Onana are the players we don’t want to be injured but he will be a big miss because that midfield three has been very good since Dyche came in and definitely had enough to swarm yours.

Yes, 4-2 lead and Evra hits the post which would have made it 5-2 and game over. Horrible season.
I still, to this day, count the lead and how we lost it from weekend to weekend.
Lost to Wigan, drew with Everton, then won against someone to keep it at 3 I think and then lost to City.

    Mental.

    Their next 5 games

    Brighton A
    Bournmouth H
    Newcastle A
    United H
    Liverpool A

If we go 6 points ahead of them on same games played as they face in to that list of fixtures it will take a some effort for them to overhaul us and/or Newcastle. The would really need to beat both us and Newcastle at the very least.

We need to keep winning and Everton at home is a good fixture to have next.

Everton are almost always tough to beat.

They will sit deep and make it on counter and set pieces.

Hope this last game without Casemiro will be a win, as this is vital to win this game before Sevilla, Forest, Brighton in FA Cup, and the 4 matches that will define the season that are Spurs away, Villa home, Brighton away and West Ham away
