Shame Jones won't be fit enough to start (by the sound of it). Would like to see something like the following. Could maybe give a debut to Cameron Borthwick-Jackson at LB, or maybe play Varela. Some boldness would be nice, but with a solid midfield.

    -----------------------Johnstone------------------------
    Valencia--------McNair---------Rojo----------B-Jackson
    ---------Herrera----Schneidi----Fellaini----------------
    Pereira--------------Wilson------------------------Young

Lingard, Martial, Varela, C-Pereira, Jones, Blind, Goss on bench.

    Herrera - Schweinsteiger
    Pereira - Rooney - Lingard
    Wilson
Can't see Rooney not starting. Valencia, Young, and one of the senior CMs will start too.

This is where someone can really step up in the lineup prediction game.

I hope we play Wilson/McNair/Johnstone/Pereira.... give them some game time.

    nope

Its the 1st league cup game for us in many years that hasnt been on sky
I know I should appreciate having been televised so frequently rather than complain that we're not this once but feck it, that's shit.

    Stream it is, I guess.

    This is a difficult one.

Went for De Gea. Don't think LVG wants to have even slight resentment from De Gea for some time to come.

LVG said he needs to rebuild the left flank with Shaw out. Expect him to start with what he sees is the way to go towards the coming months. So for the left flank I picked the players he seems to fancy most overall: Young - Schweinsteiger - Depay.

I think he wants to see Rojo/Smalling partnership as well.

Also put in two of the best youngster of the summer: Pereira and Lingard.

I think Rooney needs all the help he can get in trying to get back into form. Playing him against weak opposition is a no brainer really, if Louis is insistent upon fielding him regardless of performances.

Agree on Romero, though last season didn't Dave play every single game apart from the last game of the season?
Worked a charm for Falcao to be fair...

I was born in Ipswich so have a soft spot for them, they wont be a easy push over and were unlucky last season losing in the playoffs against the local rivals Norwich City.

I' still think we will win but if we go full youth then I can see Ipswich getting something out of it.

Looking at Ipswich in the Championship so far they seem to score a few but also concede just as many. I really don't think we should be playing a team full of fringe players either especially after last season. Also I would keep Martial playing and scoring, his confidence will be sky high and he looks fresh, get a commanding lead and bring on Wilson.

    ---------De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Young
    Schneiderlin Herrera
    --Lingard--Rooney--Pereira
    ----------Martial

This would be my last chance for Rooney personally, if he cannot positively effect a game against a lower league team at Old Trafford then he must be dropped. He should not warrant a place when not in form, the faith LvG has shown in him needs to be repaid sharpish. Take Brugge out of the equation I do not recall the last time Rooney played decent.

    3-0 or 3-1

Think to yourself 'which players can we not afford to see injured at the moment' and hope that nobody on the list is anywhere near the field for this one.

Run out an entire field of kids for all I care...not worth risking an injury to an important player.

Gone with this team for the line-up prediction game. I just hope we rest some of our key players who have been playing a lot recently and give some of the youngsters a go in this game.

This not on telly? Across the channels, there's multiple La Liga, Ligue Un, Serie A and Bundesliga football on, but Sky only show one League Cup game? Not even more on the red button?

Hard to complain, since just about every United game so far has been on the telly. But I'll still complain. It's shite.

I've noticed that a lot of you are putting 2nd tier players into the team.
Last year, LVG did exactly that and he got humiliated by MK Dons.
Given this, I doubt LVG is going to rely on backup players.
I think LVG is a cautious guy, so will put out a team which he believes will win the game comfortably.
But if we go up 2-3 goals, expect to see some substitutions.

gonna be hard to rest a few for this given the lack of depth in the squad

    I'd play

    -------------------------------De Gea---------------------------------
    Valencia------------Smalling---------McNair------------------Young
    -------------------------Herrera---------Schneiderlein---------------
    Lingard------------------------Rooney------------------Fellaini-----
    -------------------------------------Wilson----------------------------

can anyone see any other the other Under 21-s stepping up

it's when you try and pick a team for this you realise how light our squad is

Why do people want to play a full strength team?

The only regulars should be Rojo, Young, Fellaini and Herrera. If our young players can't beat Ipswich at home then we got issues.
Thats exactly what LVG thought last year and we took one heck of a beating at the hands of the mighty MK Dons.
Do you think LVG will make the same error?

Wilson and Lingard playing for U-21 tonight along with Johnstone, so unless they are brought off early cannot see them being involved on Wednesday.

    First team then....

Wonder how the squad will cope with so many games and little or no rotation is some positions

I won't be adding that to the page banner, but @Invictus does the awesome first post content now, so if you ask him nicely he might consider adding it there.

Of course, which channel it's on depends on what country you live in :)
    K cool :)

    Probably UK and USA?

@Invictus[/USER] Think it would be nice if on the OP where it says date/kick off e.t.c you also mention which channel it's on.

I don't care who plays as long as we rest Martial (he is still 19), give Pereira a shot and we fecking win.

First team squad should be able to field a strong enough team.
Yeah but I'm thinking long term.... the only rotation we are likely to see in the next few months with be with the three midfield players and perhaps Fellaini and Herrera might get the odd game

With the league and CL coupled with inevitable injuries we might struggle
