    Darmian to feature?
Matteo Darmian might actually be in the squad. He’s been staying at The Lowry recently, probably because he expected to be leaving England permanently before the end of the month. Luke Shaw checked into United’s pre-match base last night, so Darmian is still possibly available for tonight’s game.
Forgot he'd done that. If he doesn't go is he going to have to look for a home again?

Didn't expect to be excited for this game with the crap football we play and the summer we've had... But I am.

3 hours to go. Let's smash em United

    At the Lowry

A good way of telling who is in the squad is usually by seeing which players have met up with the squad at The Lowry Hotel. It isn't foolproof, and last season there have been quite a few times where players have not been seen at the hotel yet been in the playing squad due to them going to the hotel either via a different entrance earlier or them staying in the hotel overnight.

The Manchester Evening News photographers have seen the following players:

Goalkeepers (3): David de Gea, Lee Grant, Matej Kovar.
Defenders (5): Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Ashley Young
Midfielders (6): Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Marouane Fellaini.
Forwards (4): Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial.

In addition to the above names, the following two are believed to be at the hotel:
    • Luke Shaw
    • Matteo Darmian - has been living in The Lowry recently due to him leaving the club before the end of the window

for Leicester I don't think Vardy starts but he'll be on the bench due to the form in pre season of Iheanacho, one of Evans and Maguire will start the other will be sub, but both will start our next game, if Gray is fit Ghezzal will be on the bench with Albrighton starting.

A midfield 3 of Pogba, Andreas and Fred should get any United fan excited. Let's hope we see that from the start tonight.
On paper it's exactly what you'd want in a midfield. Energy, all comfortable in possession, creative, drive, strength.

They'd obviously have to gel together, though.

Would be risky for pogba to start, could be chances of injury

Would be nice to see Pogba in the starting XI alongside Andrea & Fred. Not sure he'll be ready tho, he's been in the team just for a few days.

Just few hours & we will see.

Going for a convincing win, 3-0.

Mata, Pereira & Sanchez to score!
    Bring it on!

    Relax everyone :)....

"...Mourinho’s numbers do not lie. The Portuguese gaffer is unbeaten in nine opening weekend Premier League games, spanning two spells with Chelsea and obviously his current club Manchester United.

It gets better for United fans as the former Real Madrid manager has won eight and drawn just one of those opening nine games, giving him by far and away the highest win percentage of any Premier League manager to have managed nine games.

That win percentage is 88.9% which translates into an average of 2.78 points per match which is incredible! If only Mourinho could keep up this form until the end of the season then the Red Devils would be shoe-ins for the title.

In comparison to another United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson won 61.9% of his 21 opening game matches in his spell in charge, that equates to a points per match ratio of 2.05. Wenger’s win percentage was 57/1% whilst Sam Allardyce also posts an admirable 58.3%.

So from those figures, you can see that Mourinho is by far and away the best manager when it comes to opening game records."

I hope he sends the team out to try and batter Leicester. A positive start to the season is so important

Get Pogba and Lukaku out there. We have 8 days and 9 days respectively between our next matches.

How much rest and babying do they fecking need?

It's not about babying, it's about a complete lack of match fitness... you know how off the pace they could well look compared to everyone else?

Patiently waiting 'till 7 o'clock to see the first team sheet of the season!

    Last minute lineup questions

Less than 20 minutes to go until the lineup prediction deadline and there are a few question marks over what the starting XI will be.

What will the centreback partnership be?
Despite Bailly and Lindelof both being Mourinho signings, they have barely started together under Mourinho.

It is hard to disagree with Scott's opinion. Last season Smalling was the constant starter - partly due to form and being one of the few defenders who could stay fit - but with Lindelof having a decent showing at the World Cup and Bailly playing regularly during pre-season, it is surely time to start them together?

    Who will replace Herrera?
Sadly, Herrera picked up an injury against Bayern which means he misses tonight's match.
    • We could replace him with a defender and go with three at the back, but it might not be the best time to try out a Pereira - Fred pivot.
    • We could bring in McTominay as the fittest of the remaining midfielders in the match squad due to playing a full pre-season.
    • We could bring in Pogba despite only having less than a week of training with the squad.
The last option is the riskiest, but Samuel Luckhurst (MEN) and Rob Dawson (ESPN) suggest that is what we could be seeing.

Who will be in the front three?
Obvious answer to this is the front three that started against Bayern but with Pogba possibly returning, could Mourinho be tempted to start Lukaku too? It would be risky to start both Lukaku and Pogba with no match fitness, but the kind of move you wouldn't be surprised to see.

    Damien's predicted XI

    De Gea

    Darmian Bailly Lindelof Shaw

    De Gea
    Darmian Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Pereira Fred Pogba
    Mata Sanchez Rashford

Subs: Grant, Smalling, Jones, McTominay, Fellaini, Martial, Lukaku

Would prefer Smalling to start but it'll probably be like the last couple of seasons where he establishes himself as first-choice a few months in when the others make mistakes or get injured. Should be a fairy straightforward win anyway, I'll go for 2-0.

Strong squad tbf. Can see one of the late returnees starting, but not all of them. Still think it'll be Lukaku, but I wouldn't put it past Paul Pogba to convince the manager to play him from the beginning.
Agree with Lukaku, but I think Pogba will come off the bench
