Missed opportunity to play Gomes or Greenwood while Pereira has had plenty of opportunities to prove himself and never has.
The fact we have to play Matic and McTominay in the same midfield shows how short we are.
    Having said that....come onnnnn!

Matic next to McTominay is asking for trouble. Pereira as the 10 with Mata right (or the opposite) is asking for trouble. Fred isn't great but he should walk in next to McTominay to give balance, as it'll be painful to watch how it is now. Then one of the youngsters starting in the attack to give more dynamism. You gotta take a chance sometimes, like LvG did with Rashford
LVG absolutely had no choice. Our youngsters aren't ready yet imo. But yes, Fred should have started today.

If 2 coaches deemed him unable to have an impact, and one of those was formerly a great coach, then why do we think he should start? He trains every day with the squad, they see him, they must be thinking' WTF do we do with him?' He just runs around, gets way out of position.

We used to knock Anderson, but he'd walk into this midfield

I'm hopeful that our defence will be really on song today, looks on paper that Leicester will dominate midfield, and therefore should get plenty of scoring opportunities, so we could be set up for counter attacks with James and Rashford. What I would like to see is Fred for Matic, Gomes for Mata and Greenwood for Pereira sometime during the match, but before the last 5 minutes. That looks a much more balanced midfield two, a terrific creator at 10 and attacking ability on the right. I rate Mata, but he probably needs to come off midway through the second half to rest his legs.

Most reasonable lineup given the injury list. I suspect Pereira will keep tabs on Ndidi and he will try to ensure that we will always have three-men in the midfield. Matic will probably take McT's role and sit deeper while McT will look for more b2b runs. Let's hope that Mata/James can create openings in the wings with their movement because that's the only place on the pitch where creativity is going to come from for us. We can win this. As for the moaning on here...

It was our decision to go into the season with two talented yet unproven at the highest level attackers to lead the line (Rashford/Martial).

It was our decision to give Mata a three-year deal because he's experienced and a good lad, thus making him and Lingard our #10s for the season.

It was Ole's decision to turn Pereira from a reserves/on-loan player to an important squad player.

Why the fuss? Because the almighty Fred won't get the chance to boss the midfield? Because some 17 year-olds won't get the chance to run rings around one of the better teams in the league right from the kick-off? Give me a fecking break. Like it's freaking football manager and we can go back to our last saved game... With Pogba out Matic and Mata are the only senior players in the midfield and in the attack. Of course, they'll start since the manager trusts them. Who were not trusted were shipped off.

Half the Caf, or more, is arguing that we're heading towards the right direction. Well, this is the kind of lineup you get when you choose to gamble with your present in order for a better future. Most people are fine with it last time i checked. Embrace it this is currently our level.
I don't have an issue with Matic starting, his inclusion was inevitable given the state of the injury list, but I feel starting Periera was a mistake. He's been ineffective this season and given how Ole has stated for quite some time that he plans to give youth a chance, today seemed like the perfect opportunity to give Greenwood his first start of the season.

We got rid of Lukaku to promote Greenwood. So if that is the logic...
    We didn't!

We got rid of Lukaku because he didn't fit the playing style we're trying to implement, plus he was bloody ineffective

I'm almost(not really)in tears looking at that squad. Yeah we have injuries but that squad is so thin on quality it's awful to look at. It's amazing how far we have fallen in 6 years. What in the actual feck.
More scary when you know it is one of the most expensive squads on the world.

Every time a player plays against his former team. That team always wins. But when a former man utd player plays against us, they always score. It's like a lose-lose situation

I'd say starting Matic next to McTominay and Pereira and Mata in the front 4 falls under "no choice"... everyone can choose trash experienced players to play out of position, sometimes you have to take the chance on one of the 17/18/19 year old promising youngsters we have on the bench.

Joke of a team, joke of a bench. Without Pogba in the lineup, we look like 10-15th place team. We have had it bad post SAF, but this season could be the worst of them all.

Still the top scorer under Ole last season, wonder what that says about the rest of the forwards?

I dont understand people who say we shouldn't throw greenwood or Chong or gomes into the deep end.

I would agree if they were mentally fragile or had special needs. But it's not that deep, its only a standard game against Leicester and I bet each one of those guys are dying for such an opportunity.

There is no deep end, and greenwood has even had a few sub appearances... So what gives? Either he's not as good we we think or Ole don't rate him very much.

What a load of unbalanced shite. The only good time to play Fred is when Pogba's not playing and he's dropped the ball again. Ole's team selections have been dreadful since he got the job.

Greenwood has done nothing to warrant a start against a top 7 team in epl. He is fecking 17 . Give him sometime ffs.
Think it is just hitting home how weak this squad is, that our only other option is to bring kids in if they are ready or not. Whoever let this happen has a lot of questions to answer.

Don't worry he'll sub him in really late when points are already lost.

First time Chong and Gomes have been on our bench and its because of injuries. Greenwood is on because of the lack of strikers, but at the same time, he's highly rated. If you're good enough, it shouldnt matter what age you are.
Well it’s not cos they both got on bench last season.

It’s completely disingenuous to expect them to be in the first team when the first month of the season is one game a week.

We will obviously see them more now all the competitions are starting.

Jesus guys just have some patience.
