City playing four centre midfielders. Being outnumbered in midfield is going to make it tough to play out. City will always have the spare body in the middle. A bit worrying I have to admit.

My problem with James his best asset is pace yet he seems to never use it which is infuriating. Honestly cant remember the last time he took a defender on or ran into space for a pass he's been massively out of form for months.

Lets hope he's a bit sharper after missing the last few games, he did look tired.
For me, it's his pressing and ability to nick the ball off players as well, which could be important, given you expect City to dominate possession.

KDB being out Is huge for us. Hope someone puts one on B Silva early doors. That guy gets way too much space against us usually. Probably because we are more worried about KDB etc.

We have no fecking clue how to play 352 and yet we come up with it in one of the most important games of this season. Expect us to be toyed around because none of our defenders along with the manager know how to operate in such formation. Mark my words.
Like when we already beat City and Chelsea using it. Or drew Liverpool. Glad Ole had no clue what he was doing those days.

Cost us the league Cup tie too. Ole changed it at half time and we got a goal back. 5 at the back doesn't help us at home. We should have gone 5 in midfield instead.

So the three injury doubts Maguire, James, Wan Bissaka start and I hope they are fully fit.

Citys team apart from their forwards doesn't look that strong on paper but I suppose they are all about system of play.

If City score a goal or two I'd hope they have to least work hard for them unlike the OT league cup tie when they were gifted goals.

Glad we've so many tactical experts on here. Next time the job is available you should all apply.

Coaching United to success us piss easy from what I read on here most of the time.

I've been playing and watching football for 40 years and I'd never think I know more than the people paid to do the job.

That City side is nothing special. I wish we had the balls to go with a more attacking lineup at home.

So with Matic in and McTominay on the bench, it would be a mistake to see McT as dropped. He’s literally the most likely sub to come on if we’re to win this and allows Matic to work real hard for 55-60 minutes, with McT being fresh legs for a final 30 push.

Everton last week showed the pitfalls of playing all your combative midfielders from the start. We are going to need fresh legs, whether winning or losing.

As City lineups go, that actually looks quite weak for their standards.

Pleased to note the absence of both Lingard and Pereira.

    Hoping for a win.

    City get tired legs?
Well, you would expect the players to be less fresh after, say, 65 minutes than they are at the start of the game. But, I get the point that you're trying to make about City's fitness levels/ability to keep the ball, therefore needing to run less.

We could say the same about Greenwood to be fair, with the added bonus that Greenwood is the one more likely to bag us a goal against a tired team than James.
Greenwood is one player I would most definitely prefer to see coming off the bench. Think he will be an important player for us today when he does come on. I just hope that Martial has a big game for us today.

    Easiest 14/11 in a while.

Because Ole is a bad liar. Maguire was never injured/ill, that was just an excuse in case we had lost without him at Derby. I don't think AWB/James were injured either.
Well done. I thought James might be out and he’d play The Sauce.

Tough game, we have to hope that AWB and Shaw/Williams will be able to get up and help Bruno, Martial and James to score while we defend very aggressively against them.

All the players hugging and shaking hands at full time. What was the point of them not shaking hands at the start of the game?
So They can hug and shake hands at full time instead. What are you on about?

They are strong offensively but really weak at the back. If we keep up the good defensive work we've done in the past 7-8 games, I can see us beat them.

To try and influence the public in not feeling the need to shake hands in sporting/formal settings. Every little helps:

Everyone needs a big game otherwise we won’t get the win we definitely now need for any chance of 4th

We have to watch how we cope with it. Technically, Martial will come and help Bruno too, but AWB and Shaw/Williams are really tasked to help the midfield and go forward, right?

I am curious about Dan James. He has had some issues recently, is he fresh? Can he make an impact? Is he going to get more in the box to help AWB to go up?

Not enamoured with the attack. Why not go with Ighalo? James is woefully off form. Lets hope he suddenly finds it and Martial needs to have the game of his life upfront. We havent beaten them at home in ages. I have a feeling for a 2-2 draw. Bruno and Ighalo when he comes on.

I've got a strangely good feeling about today. Think them not having De Bruyne is massive for us and just have the feeling that our three of Matic-Fred-Bruno will get at them in midfield. Only concern that I have is that we won't make the most of our chances. Could only be one goal in this today.

Got to say, that's not a city team that strikes fear into you. Defence looks dodgy and KDB is a huge miss. Think there's a good chance of a win here.
