Time to rest some players. Palace away won't be easy, need to be fresh for that.

I always like these cup games to see the dodgy squads filled with players needing fitness and the youth sprinkled in.
    De Gea
    Darmian - Jones - Blind - Rojo
    Carrick - Schneiderlin
    Lingard - Pereira - Memphis
    Fellaini/Wilson(?)

I'll be pretty pissed if Martial starts. The lad is already so important to us. We've got to rest him whenever we can. A tough away coming this weekend too. Change most of the squad. I hope Memphis starts and plays well so I can see him start vs Palace.

People are mad if they want Martial to start. Why would you want him to start in this one. The guy needs a rest here and there.

Can we just not play Rooney for this? Please?

    ------------------ De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    ------- Schneiderlin - Carrick
    Lingard -------- Pereira --- Memphis
    ----------------- Martial

Maybe go for something like this. I want us to take this competition a little more seriously as it's a decent chance at silverware, but Lingard and Pereira deserve minutes.

Love that front 4. Wilson for Martial second half would top it off nicely.

Yep. Plenty of quality squad players. Out of the players who didn't start today, we can play:

    Romero
    Darmian ??? ??? Blind
    Carrick Fellaini
    Lingard Pereira Memphis
    Wilson
Young might be fit too. Using 2 of the defenders in center back is fine, and playing Rooney or Mata in for one of the 3 youngsters in attack is also fine. Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Martial, Smalling and probably Herrera should all be rested for the weekend though, the above lineup is more then good enough to beat a championship team at OT.

Young should be fit enough. He's already back in first team training so I expect him to at least make the bench hopefully start. I'm thinking...

    Romero
    Darmian-Smalling/Jones-Blind-Young
    Carrick-Fellaini
    Lingard-Pereira-Memphis
    Wilson

Or De Gea still in goal. If Young makes it that could be 10/11 changes to the team that played City and should still be strong enough to take Boro at home.

Should really rotate a lot for this game, let Smalling rest, Martial too, and others. Start Memphis, Johnstone, Pereira, Wilson, Lingard, McNair if they are fit. If they're not good enough to do a job in this game at this point, then they're just not good enough. But I think they are.

    -------------Wilson

    Johnstone
    Valencia-Jones-Blind-Young
    Carrick-Fellaini
    Lingard-Pereira-Memphis
    Wilson
    What I think we'll see:
    De Gea
    Valencia-Jones-Blind-Rojo
    Carrick-Morgan
    Lingard-Rooney-Memphis
    Martial

I wouldn't drop Rooney for this game, we are playing a team at his current level and he might shave a couple more off that record.
Very harsh to Middlesbrough as none of their attackers looked anywhere near that bad in their last game against Wolves. I still agree with the sentiment though. Sneaky feeling that the record may be the only thing keeping him in the team.

Our chance to rest few players.

Play Fellaini, Memphis, Lingard, Wilson, Periera and some first choice players.

This is the match to bring in some of the lads who haven't featured as much in the last month. Darmian, Blind, Carrick, Memphis, and Lingard are all almost guaranteed to start IMO. Probably Fellaini too, but I'd like to see Pereira as well.

Rooney is probably 50/50, keep him in and hope be scores, or give him a rest (aka drop him)? Martial is the one I think will be rested though, as he's young and played a lot of football lately.

    De Gea
    Darmian Jones Blind Rojo
    Carrick
    Pereira Fellaini
    Lingard Rooney Memphis

I know LvG really want to win a trophy this year, but I'd change the whole team. It's a brilliant chance to rest quite a few players.

I'd start the likes of Wilson, Lingard, Memphis, Fellaini, and Pereira.

    Carrick-Herrera

With Wilson and Pereira to come on as substitutes preferably. Hope for a regular 2-0 or 3-0 win to get us into next round.

Is this the idea, play Rooney in every game, so by Christmas he is completely knackered, then send him off on a long holiday to find himself. There's an u-21 game tonight as well.

    I like this idea.

We should play a keeper, back 4, and then let Rooney cover the entire midfield and forward line. After 90 minutes we should be shot of him for quite some time

I guess that will give us a good idea of who's going to be involved and not.

    Subs used:
Young(if fit for bench), Andreas, Schneiderlin.

lots of experience ,energy and battle for the midfield, Youth, pace and trickery for the the front 3 and Strong, Arial dominant and quick CB pairing to play infront of the best Keeper in the league.

hopefully a clean sheet and some good goals. 3-0

    Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
They were first or second a few games ago but now see they are in forth after losing two and drawing one.

    http://www.skysports.com/football/competitions/championship/table

Haven't seen any of their games but can believe that they will give us any headache on Wednesday.

I remember the days when they were in the PL and were a threat, those days seem a very long time ago now.
    cheers.

see everyone dropping Smalling. not injured is he?

I like these line-ups...not sure if van Gaal will take too much of a risk though.

not injured, but hes our most important defender and it Would be rather annoying if he got injured in this game when we could have given valuable playing time to others. I want him ready and fully charged for Palace away personally.

Rest as many players as possible, boro will probably play a weakened team and if this isn't a chance to rest players then I don't know what is.

If we have any ambition in terms of winning the league or champions league then you rest players, we have plenty of good youngsters and fringe players who should be good enough to see us through. LVG has already complained about the lack of rest and we can't keep playing the same players week in week out.

Would give martial and smalling the night off completely but pick a strong bench.

Everyone saying that Rooney shouldn't play...are you kidding? This is exactly the type of match he should be playing in right now. Having a good match against a shitty opponent like this could do wonders for his confidence.

Memphis should play for the same reason

I'd rather see Wilson get the minutes. Why does a senior player who gets the salary that he does need a second rate team to build his confidence? Let the youngsters who need the minutes get them
