Everyone saying that Rooney shouldn't play...are you kidding? This is exactly the type of match he should be playing in right now. Having a good match against a shitty opponent like this could do wonders for his confidence.

Memphis should play for the same reason
Ipswich and Brugge didn't help. He's had his chances, enough with the excuses for him or hoping to "build his confidence." We need to give someone else a try at some point and we have kids that need the minutes on the pitch.

I wouldn't be opposed to starting him here to rest Martial, and then bring on Wilson for Rooney later. Then against Palace start Martial up front and "rest" Rooney.

I wouldn't either, but we both know the chances are Rooney will play the full 90 in both matches. At best he will be rested for the LC match.

    Darmian
    Blind
    Rojo
    Jones
    Carrick
    Fellaini
    Lingard
    Depay
    Wilson

That's what I'd like to see start the game, Wilson, Lingard and Depay need game time as does Perreira from the bench.

McNair, Blackett, Pereira, Wilson and Depay to start, hopefully.

This game is live on TV in France on BeinSports Max9 :D

Actually hope we do rest Rooney for this game. Would like to see Wilson, Lingard and Pereira get game time but would prefer to see the front 4 as
    Mata Herrera Memphis
    Martial

just to see how they get on together without Rooney in the mix

Can we just not play Rooney for this? Please?

    ------------------ De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Jones - Rojo
    ------- Schneiderlin - Carrick
    Lingard -------- Pereira --- Memphis
    ----------------- Martial

Maybe go for something like this. I want us to take this competition a little more seriously as it's a decent chance at silverware, but Lingard and Pereira deserve minutes.
This would be so amazing. Strong defense, pace and youth at the front four. If the game is quiet enough, put Blind on for Schneiderlin

Would be my line-up to, although I'd probably rest Smalling, put Rojo at CB and put Blind in.

And I agree about taking the competition seriously - it's probably the easiest trophy to win, largely based on the indifference a lot of clubs show towards it. Any bit of success would be a great motivation for what is a fairly trophy-free side.

With Rojo just having had his best game for us at left back..........that will probs happen!! That's the type of logic our team selections show at the minute

I'd do it more to give Smalling a rest. He's our best defender and losing I'm to a COC game would be brutal. Plus Blind should get some minutes.

I hope he tries to get everyone involved. I mean everyone not in current rotation.

    Romero
    Darmian-Blind-Jones-Young
    Carrick-Fellaini
    Lindgard-Pereira-Depay
    Wilson

I see playing a team like the above as a win win for us. First, it rests the majority of our first team (at least those that have been getting most of the minutes over the last 3 games). And second, it gives a few of the guys a chance to show a spark and could lead to more first team minutes (Depay, Lindgard, Pereira, Young).

Yeah, either way. Prefer him at LB, personally.
I know what your saying and agree to a degree. However, I think we should play De Gea, Darmian Jones Smalling Rojo.

Get some much needed stability in the back 4 for the first time in years. It should be an easy enough game for them.

Carrick and Blind infront of them and then let Martial, Mamphis, Lingard and Periera loose and give them the freedom to bomb forward and interchange.

Although is suspect Rooney and Fellaini will both be selected by our manager. The same manage who talks about pace, running in behind and lack of quality in the final third!!!!!

I personally care a hell of a lot more about Crystal Palace away. They are doing pretty well, and if United lose it will put a very bad spin on the start to the season. I really hope we rest plenty tomorrow.

They've lost 4 in the last 6 games. They're a tough team to beat but they've been beaten by all the top teams they faced this season (unless you count Chelsea), we should be beating them.

I really like some of the lineups that were posted but i don't believe LvG will play all our youngsters in his starting xi tomorrow. He acknowledges that City are still clear favorites to win the title and we really have a long distance to travel in order to convince both ourselves and the rest of the league that we can seriously make a challenge this season for the PL.

At the same time he understands that there's a lot of pressure on him and the players to win the first title in the post Ferguson era. Even in the 2004-06 period there was only one season we failed to win anything. The Cup competitions are still the best chance we have to achieve that. Might not be much but it will certainly be a confidence boost. I think it's really helped Arsenal in the last couple of seasons.

But tomorrow's game presents LvG the opportunity to try either an attacking line without Rooney or with Rooney upfront but with our two best dribblers, Martial and Memphis, on the wings. I think the latter would be more interesting, as i don't see Rooney being benched for a long time. But both Memphis and Martial starting from the wings and trying to take on defenders while Rooney, Herrera and one of the CMs looking for runs in the box would be interesting.

Have gone for major changes for this game, which is against LVG philosophy, so expecting to get very few points in the lineup predictions.

Think Fellani, Depay, Blind, Darmian, Pereira, Carrick and Romereo to get a game, probably rest Martial, Lindgard, Smalling, Schweinie. Can't see him dropping Rooney.

the players have had a hard week, with Moscow and then the derby. I think a rest for as many as possible will be a good thing. Yes, we should be beating Palace no matter what. But a rest midweek for key players will help.

Tempted with Blind CM and continue getting Jones up to speed, but should rest him when we get a chance as we all know he's prone to injuries.

Im assuming Rooney won't start because of being in the "red zone". Id hope Wilson would start upfront and have put him in my starting 11, but realistically LVG is going to want to win this one so perhaps Fellaini or Memphis will start upfront? I've taken Martial out too, not much point risking him imo.
