We either continue the trail we started to blaze at the beginning of the season against the smaller clubs (not that Newcastle are exactly small), or we stay in our half with shaking legs and struggle to nick a 1-0 win. Pogba coming back would make me believe it'll be comfortable, without him I expect another awkward watch. It's nice we have such a big star that single-handedly changes my expected outcome, but by god it makes it crap when he's injured.

5% of people currently think we'll lose 5-0. Are some of you from RAWK?

Need to go on a proper run and win at least all our games till we face City in a month.

Also have to keep the distance between us and other clubs below us. I think we are firmly back in a race for top 4.
    Agreed on both points.
Though we will more than likely have Fellaini, Pogba and Ibra, all back, this month. If that happens, I think we could win all our games in the way you stated.

Phil Jones almost certainly out (if it is indeed a hamstring injury), hopefully we don't lose anyone else during the international break...

Not sure if Pogba will start and be subbed, or vice versa but we need him to play and get up to speed quickly.

de Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Young, Matic, Fellaini, Rashford, and Lukaku are all going to start IMO. Then it's any two from Herrera, Pogba, Martial, Lingard, Mkhitaryan and Mata.

Rojo was back playing for Arg NT, so I would expect him to feature sooner rather than later, now that Jones is probably injured and out for quite some time. Bailly and Rojo at CB for me.

Think we need to make a statement here. Need to get a few goals to settle the nerves.

Is Pogba back? Is Rojo back?

Have to start off quickly with pace, power and aggression. If everyone comes back fit, I am expecting

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Smalling Young
    Matic Fellaini
    Mata Miki Rashford
    Lukaku

I just got a free ticket for the ILOVEUNITED event taking place in NYC for this game. Cole and Saha are schedule to appear. Anyone been to these?

It will be interesting to see what the players’ reaction to the Chelsea game as well as the international break will be. Don’t think the players follow all the press but surely they have come across some of the negative reactions and concerns. I’ve watched Newcastle a few times this season. Don’t think they can hurt us much and struggle badly in front of goal. We will win this one fairly easily with a 2 goal cushion, I suspect.

Hope to god Jose has a re think and realises how much better we'd be with Rashford and Martial in the side. Watching Martial destroy Germany at times, and having a pacy right forward in Mbappe is what we should be replicating.

    Assuming Jones is injured;

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Smalling - Blind
    Herrera - Matic
    Rashford - Mata - Martial
    Lukaku

Given up on Mkhi. Don't think Jose will though, and no doubt we'll only see one of Martial and Rashford starting

I think that Pogba and Fellaini will be on the bench and will come on at some stage.

    -------------------De Gea-------------

    Valencia------Smalling---Bailly-------Young

    ------------Herrera----------Matic--------

    Mata--------------Mkhitaryan----------Rashford

    ------------------- Lukaku------------------

Subs: Romero, Pogba, Blind, Fellaini, Martial, Darmian, Lingard,

Hope none of Miki, Mata or Fellaini start. None deserve to play.

I think we'll see a decent performance and a few goals. Having said that, as long as we get 3 points and are back to winning ways i dont really care.

Not sure why Fellaini doesn’t deserve to play.

We need to play with a bit of confidence against Newcastle and hopefully get an early goal, take the game to them from the very first whistle.
If we are feeling sorry for ourselves after the recent run of games, I can see this becoming a very nervous performance and Newcastle being able to frustrate for a draw.

So Herrera is doing a better job this season with the chances he's gotten ?

Agreed! Has to be the biggest mystery in football right now as to why he won't start the three of them. I don't subscribe to this one in, one out rubbish! We should be going for the jugular each game and killing teams off. Then if he really wants, he can sub one of them off when the job is done.

For me it's not Southgate problem, the main problem is Jones him self I mean that's him, always injured and it was always going to happen unfortunately the guy is made from glass literally.

Yes Mourinho should have kept our boys at home. Another good point he brings up in that article is the fairness of the Xmas schedule. Last year it was chelsea, this year it's Arsenal getting a huge boost form the scheduling. Weren't they supposed to be playing on Xmas eve?

Anyways regarding this game, I assume we'll be back to 4-2-3-1. The big question for me is who plays behind Lukaku. I think it's time Mourinho gave Mata a chance in that position for a full 90. Mkhitaryan has been in shocking form the last 4 or 5 games, time to give someone else a go.

Defending is not going to be a problem for this game. Bailly and Smalling will do.

We need to get our attack to click. Would go with Fellaini and Mata instead of Herrera and Mkhi. This should be a must-win for us to get the momentum going.

2-0 to United and although we've been playing really badly the hysteria will start to die down again until our next terrible performace away from home to a smaller team and rinse and repeat. I'm still not sure the mentality is totally right or we've got the right mix of players to consistently play good football but I still think we will go on to finish second this season with what we do have

Exactly. Stones and Maguire both played yet Jones has to be the one to get injured. Southgate is not to blame. You need your best defenders to build an understanding before a major tournament and every game helps in that regard friendly or not.
