I could see us losing this one if only because we just went all out tonight and have to turn around in less than 72 hours against a shithousing energetic team on a full weeks rest.

If we win I'd assume it will be a scrap fest. Sabitzer has to start, hopefully he and Case can dictate the game some. If we have to start Weghorst because Rashford is out I might throw up
I think you might end up doing that if that's the case :nervous:

Obviously Weghorst was poor in the first half but Newcastle will be a different game/style of play for him and he shouldn't be that tired after only playing one half where he just basically ran around pressing and barely touching the ball. Dalot, Antony, Garnacho, Sabitzer all had reduced or no minutes so we have options to keep the team relatively fresh.

Worried about Rashford and Casemiro though :(

Biggest game of the season (so far) this one. Though I think we have a great shot at both FA cup and Europa League. Get that trophy in and go into the last 3 months more relaxed. Hope they aren't knackered after today.

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Fred
    Antony Bruno Sancho
    Rashford

Really don't want to see Weghorst start. Possibly go Sabitzer in for one of the wingers from the start to add more steel in midfield, but really, just go out and dominate it.

C’mon boys! Get this one over the line and hopefully a few would get rested next Wednesday (yes they will need that rest eventually).

We absolutely need to win this to put a marker down. All the hardwork and improvement has to result in a trophy and this maybe our best chance in this season.

Chris Sutton is predicting a win for Newcastle after extra time and penalties. What an idiot. Why even bother having this guy do the predictions if he can't retain at least some semblance of neutrality?
The entire media want plucky little Saudi Arabia to do the romantic thing here.

Did rashford go of injured or was he taking off as a caution last night?

So nobody is allowed to predict us to lose? It's not a completely unreasonable or biased opinion, especially given our fatigue.

He predicts us to lose near enough every game I swear.

I predict a terrible game unfortunately. Unless we manage to score a couple early, Newcastle will make this borderline unwatchable

Will be real tough, always is after the highs of a game like Barca. My worry is lack of rest - can they do another 90/120 minutes because we can rotate in the FA cup. I don’t doubt they will put everything in I just hope we have one of those days where things go in our favour. Karius will either have his redemption game or will shit the bed again. Hopefully we try lots of long shots

This game will be season defining. A loss would present an opening for catastrophic consequences. We must win, one way or another.

Probably the only time I care about League Cup.... I care more about this than Barca game to be honest.

Momentum is key and both clubs seem to be heading in different directions recently.

We're on a big upswing and the barcodes are stuttering.

It'll be a very hard game and Newcastle will make it an awful watch, I think we will win provided we can avoid extra time.

The more I think about it, the more I can see ETH playing a similar line up to the one against Barcelona, keep it tight, then bring on the likes of Garnacho and Antony in the second half and have a real go against them. For some reason Utd seem stronger in the second half in recent matches.

72 hours is normally enough recovery so 66 hours might be fine.

We could do with a handy draw in the EL or the FA Cup if we beat West Ham.

Play a second string team and give everyone else a week off

I still think sport is 50% psychology so a win over Barca is more valuable than a weeks rest and preparation on the training ground.

I think this will be a terrible game of football. I hope Rashford is fit.

Tbh this is probably the biggest game of the season for us. Biggest week of the season no matter what happens from here. Barcelona was a symbolic test of our progress and a reminder of the big nights to come next season, but the Europa League itself isn't a huge deal for us. The game was bigger than the cup IMO. The league Cup is our first chance at a trophy against a good side, chance to end the trophy drought. If we win this, then all we need is to see out top 4 and it'll be a very good season no matter what. FA Cup and Europa League are bonuses, but honestly not a big deal if we only get the league Cup. The progress is clear and enough to know that next season we'll be title challengers and CL challengers. If we get to the final of one of the other 2 cups, it won't be as big as this one as this one is again, symbolic with the start of our new Ten Hag era, ending the trophy drought, and getting rewarded for our progress.

Of course if we lose then the fa cup or Europa League becomes priority, just need to get the trophy and whatever we win will be great. The 1st trophy is the biggest though IMO.

I don't think being rested is more valuable than the momentum from beating Barcelona over 2 legs should give us. Newcastle are on a poor run of form at the moment, and Pope has been the rock in their defence along with the untouched back 4.

Think we should still be favourites for this one. Snuff out Almiron and ASM, win the midfield battle and we just need to be clinical on the day.

Will Harry lift the cup if we win? :D

Need an early goal in this, Newcastle are an annoying side to play.

Is Martial back for this one? Be great to see him make a sub appearance
Doubt it, he was training on his own wednesday - so he isn't even back training with the group. I think the final does come too early, but hope to see him able to come in towards the end vs Liverpool.

Should be easy.. Its fecking Newcastle.
It will be very far from easy. Newcastle have a very tight defence and can score goals.
But for me momentum is key as long as EtH can refocus the team after the Barcelona game.
We definitely need to score the first goal.
