Good 1st half. Even without Son and Maddison Spurs are a good team so we're doing well. I do think we should get Case in for Eriksen though. He's really been anonymous and always makes us weaker defensively. Mainoo has again been composed even if he was the one marking Richarlison for his goal. Spurs def look like they could score another.

Rasmus has been excellent and looked way more confident which is great to see. Linking really well with Rashford who has consistently exposed Porro. Bruno has been our trigger for the counter attack and has mostly done well. Garnacho vs Udogie has been a good battle between 2 of the best young talents in the league.

Overall very positive start to 2024. More of the same 2nd half (with Case maybe adding some defensive stability)

    We still have fundamental issues.

My favourite moments have been where Evans has been one of our best pressers...in midfield !

Eriksen has been anonymous, he's a bigger reason why we havent been able to conduct things in the middle. Bruno was careless with the ball a couple of times but he's bustling around and hes played some superb passes through as well. Eriksen however isn't offering anything right now.

We need a couple more goals to win this I think. Spurs are never too far from scoring here

We are losing physical battles. McT and Casemiro will help . It's not like Eriksen and Mainoo is pulling trees up there.
Not both, though. Mainoo should stay on for his ability to retain the ball under the press, and he’s a little physically stronger than Eriksen. I would do Casemiro for Eriksen, and McTominay for Mainoo in the last 10-15 as most likely he’ll will be gassed out by then.

Another idea would be to switch Bissaka and Dalot. Bissaka is lost on the left

He’s lost out there , Spurs are just playing it about in midfield . Hopefully Casemiro has 30 mins in him

Eriksen shouldn't be starting games for us anymore he should be used as a sub his legs are totally gone how ten hag can't see this is a joke but he can't see alot of things.

Most games this season I've seen him making mature decisions when holding the ball up. He has occasionally not been strong enough or taken a poor touch but his decision making has largely been good. He just doesn’t get the ball back from the other forwards very often.

Anyway, a goal and assist in the first half is a nice game for him today.
Definitely big positive today. In general he looks more confident which you need from your striker.

Spurs were threatening down their right early but that faded as the half progressed, get the 3rd and there could be a few goals against their high line.

One way or another, Spurs are vulnerable in defence today. We can score a couple more in the second half

The big job in the summer is deciding who is going to be Mainoo's partner in midfield. Bruno in his role just in front of Mainoo + 1. It needs to be somebody who is mobile, has the stamina for PL football, and who has the creativity we need in that position. Getting that one right player in suddenly changes everything.

That back four needs properly sorting out, too.

Every time they have a corner I worry they are going to score. When we have a corner, I worry we'll give up a fast break and they will score. Why have we been so poor at both attacking and defending corners for so long. Honestly, it seems like since Fellaini left we have been terrible at them.
This in a nutshell. It’s as if we don’t need opportunities from goals but are more than happy to give up goals from them.

+1 - he'll also solidify our set piece defence - they haven't been doing much on open play (understandable because all their attackers are out)

I rate Mainoo but he has had a poor game so far. Struggling with the counterpress and got dominated by Romero for that header.
On the other hand, Mainoo managed to stick on Romero and didn't give him an easy header. Romero is reaching down to head that over Mainoo because he holds his ground. Probably makes Romero get under it a little and hit the bar.

Not pretty but being dominated is too exaggerated. Somewhere in between I suppose, looked ok on the break, spurs look more in control. Hopefully Onana will leave his line and try and catch a corner landing in his six yard box this half

100% this - this is what I've been banging on too. I hope we see it as Mainoo + Bruno + 1 for the next few seasons and identify that perfect link player.

Teams have worked out just crowding that area means we are paralysed.

Nah I think there are certainly games for Eriksen as a player, just not the high octane ones that need legs. I'd start him against low block teams that we really need to unlock but I don't think he's needed today. He wouldnt have started if Cas was able to do 90 mins.

It's a strange game, because we haven't really played... Eriksen and Bruno have been pretty absent. Spurs have been more assured, better. But our front three look a little dangerous (..finally!). Makes a massive difference when your forwards look like they may actually score, makes an average performance a possible winning performance. But we aren't playing really... we have no plan, just hoping for inspiration. It's very frustrating to watch and makes for a mid-table team.

Just don't think this Spurs team has much danger in front of goal and that may be the difference.
