Martial may be no Messi, but I agree with the point you let your more talented players play their way in to form. A firing Martial could be pivotal to our season.
Would you say he hasn't had opportunities to play his way into form?

I agree with the notion that the better players should start our PL game. This is the sort of game where Mkhi and Martial can play their way into some degree of form.
It is also the game where once again they have to be carried and a lapse of concentration or bit of poor play by them results in us conceding.

    Fine lines.

Is Messi also "some academy player" as he came from Barca's own academy? For the record Lingard has scored 3 goals and assisted 2 in 549 minutes. Martial 2 goals, 2 assists in 715 minutes. He should produce better performances to keep out the Lingard and the likes. As for your lack of appreciation of our own full international academy player who always gives his all...
The stats do not mean anything as they are very close. Have you seen Martial's dribbling? Its insanely good, that is what I want to see for United, not Lingard who is just average.

Give Martial a run of games and watch him grow. He is our most talented attacker by a distance.

Yes, just like Barca do and Madrid. You don't see them dropping out of form Bale for some academy player
Martial isn't Bale either. Our genuine world class or as near as damn it play when fit.
When Maryial proves himself as unstoppable he'll play just about every game.
Jeez usual caf pre match drama going on, you'd think we'd been shite over the last few games....

Based on what? One good season? He could well go on to be a 1 season wonder as many players before him have done.

Last season, he was as good as Bale.

But if you don't give them a chance in such games, when do you give it ? You can't play them in the high profile games, limiting their appearances to 10-15 min cameos or a cup run. That's not how you develop young talent (I mean Martial, not Mkhi).

If it was for someone like Mykytarin or Rashford I'd agree but Lingard is capable of his level imho.
Well Jesse has produced quite a lot of good performances, three goals and assists. So more in less minutes than Martial. Also I'd say he's contributed more into our team play.

I could be wrong as I don't have the appearance stats to hand, but it seems to me that if Martial has a poor game, he's typically hooked off during the game and doesn't start the following one. Fair enough if the players waiting in the wings have the same level of ability as him, but I see no reason why someone as limited as Lingard should start ahead of him in the PL. People may argue he's been better this season, but his output in the league hasn't been great either and he should never be a starter IMO for clubs with top 4/title winning aspirations.

I have seen Martial's dribbling, yes. Very good at his best. Have you seen Lingard's off the ball movement? Creates a lot for him and the team.

Well if you don't rate Lingard or what he contributes, let's then peacefully disagree.

His movement is not bad...but when I see him on the team sheet, it is depressing.
I do not think Lingard is a terrible player but he is not good enough to be starting for the self proclaimed biggest club in world

Now that is a totally different argument compared to your earlier ”Championship level”… I also think, and hope that Lingard will be a good squaddie for the next few years for us.

If Bale was playing terrible, would you start Lingard ahead of him?

Martial has been ok, not terrible.
The problem, the way I see it, is Martial and Pogba together on the left. Martial has shown neither the desire nor the aptitude to cover for Pogba defensively. Not that I blame him: he is, after all, a forward.

So, in Mourinho's system, Martial lies behind Mkhi, Rashford, Lingard, maybe even Young in the pecking order. He'd be better off targeting the striker spot. Ironically, that's where the team too could benefit from his presence.

Does indeed seem Carrick hasn’t made it and Schweinsteiger will be on the bench. Doesn’t look there’s any Rooney or Mkhitaryan in the starting XI, either, but you would expect both to be on the bench.

I would have no hard feelings if Martial went to join Barca or Madrid. We are just wasting his career.

You must've been devastated to see water-carrier Lingard score the winner in the FA Cup final last season.
Well we would not have been there if it wasn't for Martial's late winner vs Everton in the semi final.
Even John O'Shea scored winner at Anfield once, it doesn't mean he was an average player (better than Lingard though)

Rooney's days as a XI play are really over, if he can't get in the XI despite his encouraging form.

That's weird, I guess Lingard and Rashford are going to start, personally I'd have used them on Wednesday.
