Part of our DNA is to attack so to suppress that natural urge is not good for us. We played pretty well but lapses cost us. I think going forward, Martial improved as the game went on but we didn't take our chances. Smalling had a decent effort and Mata should have shot. Defensively, we were poor but we've a young team and this is the team that LVG has settled on. How we still have Valencia and not Nani is a mystery but there you go...

We are, at the bare minimum, 5 years away from any major trophies.
Calm down would you,it's been a really bad night with Shaw and the result. We were really unlucky to get something from tonight.5 years?Meltdown much

The injury of Shaw is a dark shaddow on this unbelievable night. Felt like 15 years ago... Wonderful night. Shame I couldn't be there (some things chance in 15 years, mother of 2 now), but will be travelling to Old Trafford on 25th November. Sure we won't win then though...

Although... This PSV is way less than the 2000-team. But this ManUtd-team.... the players are stars, but they're not a team. Will be tough against VFL and CSKA if they have already problems handling some Dutch youngsters and a bit if a crazy Mexican..

I might take some stick for this but how about this back four instead of Rojo?

    Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian?
The problem is that neither Blind, Rojo or Valencia are as good as Shaw going forward. This makes us predictable as it takes away the overlap threat with Memphis on that wing.

Honestly this match thread is embarrassing. We lost so its a blow. We looked good though until the bloody subs. Stop being such reactionary queens
Spot on, @Stemmy - you can't hear yourself in here for loud ignorant moaners. Great by Martial some wonderful play by United. The guy who breaks Luke's leg scores. Sickening. We have a great side and this will come good . Tonight our hearts and brains (if we have any) will be with the team zinc especially the man in his hospital bed.

    He is from Ajax.
Even then. Not like the fans jeer every ex-city player or Liverpool player at OT. Some select thugs like Suarez or tevez yeah sure but Blind is the last person I would expect to be some kind of an annoying brat.

Urgh shit night, Mata chance in particular should have been buried. We looked really vulnerable on the counter, didn't like that.

Gutted for Shaw, horrible seeing a young player hurt so badly, particularly when it's one of ours and a big player at that.
When we have the ball, we look vulnerable and never look like scoring. So we're in a no win situation with these tactics.

Another night we win that. Strange game and result is irrelevant given Shaw's injury. Martial impressed me.

My original post was tongue in cheek mate. We massively overpaid for Mata but that is what you do when you're buying from a club that are not short of a bob or two.
To be fair I don't think we did. If Fellaini, Lallana, etc are worth that much money it's normal to shell out 37m for Mata.

It's shitty decision after shitty decision, that's the problem. Players passing when they should shoot, players shooting then they should pass. The manager doesn't want them playing with instinct, rather thinking through every little thing, and it slows us down.
I dunno. You see a man making a break, you feed him the ball. I'm sure LvG wants that.

What a shit night. Poor Luke, then this crap result. Go out there with real attacking intent like we're all crying for then we don't take our chances and fall apart at the back. Anyway, not worried yet. Still have plenty of games left in this stage, so we best just look forward.

Edit - should say we did some lovely stuff and Martial is impressive. We'll be fine lads.

You support the club but it's hard to support a team dripping with cowardice. They're a disgrace.
Bit harsh after that terrible Luke Shaw injury. DDG was seldom tested to be honest and we looked decent in spells but it was just one of those games where we didn't look like we was gonna win. Such a shame after that great result on Saturday. Biggest let down was Mata's performance and he had a glorious chance to level things but completely fluffed his lines! Certainly not a disgraceful performance just shit after Fellaini came on!

Blind was voted Dutch player of the year before he came to us. Is from Ajax. Unless there is more history - that is enough reason for PSV fans to boo him.

Nah. The Shaw injury had our players (and fans tbf) in another state of mind, not focusing on the game. Yes some players played extremely shite (looking at you, Mata) but we'll make it out of this group.
Agree with this. Players are mates and even the most professional ones will get affected by something like that. Much of the hate and panic on here is also due to the loss combined with Shaw's injury.

I would buy that if our play was usually any better than this. But it is not. Not buying it, think we will be in a real scrap to get through. Next match is Wolfsburg at home, a side that is quite decent. Don't win there and we are in trouble.

So, we have Fellaini on. 2-1 down in 90th minute and take a corner short and feck it up, then we have a free kick on the edge of the box, go short and feck it up again. This is the most frustrating united team of my lifetime.

Why do they jeer Daley blind? I mean that's so random. I would understand if it's someone from Ajax who riled them in the past or something. Maybe like Suarez.

Anfield didn't jeer even ronaldo when he went there iirc.
His father made sure Dutch people can't wear orange clogs this summer. Well.. considering this... maybe we should thank him.

That's where a Roy sleaze comes into the equation. A big personality that keeps you focused on the pitch. It would be nice to see LVG or Giggs showing a bit of passion from the bench. SAF was always up barking orders. We really really miss that.

If you don't take your chances you will surely regret it and we really do, it was always a risk with a really attacking side that we'd get hit on the break. Credit to PSV they defended pretty well in the final part of that game but we should have really killed them off. I fear we won't see this 11 play together for a while, but I liked what I saw for large parts of the game.

Positives for me: Memphis' goal, Martial looked good, Schweinsteiger was great
Negatives: Shaw getting injured, Rojo at CB, Daley Blind was not that great at LB going forwards despite the assist, Mata spurned some good opportunities

Priority now is to pick up our heads and learn lessons from this.

I feel gutted personally by tonight.

A corner and a freekick in injury time and we cant even get a ball into the box? Appalling.

I never even called for Moyes to be fired, but the way we play and not signing a experienced striker (and the rest of our flapping around in the market) ... I am quickly running out of pantience.
Pantience at a premium dans le Caf these days

Had we had the penalty and sending off of Moreno we would have battered them and everyone would have their cocks out

Shaw just tweeted "thanks for all the support and his recovery starts now and will come back stronger"

    Bless the lad

What does that mean? DNA? You're not playing poorly because LVG is suppressing some primal part of the club which involves attacking, like a lion becoming soft because it isn't hunting. The reason why you are struggling is because the tactics are suffocating the game. It would be the same with any team, not just United because for some special reason not attacking has Kryptonite like properties on the club and team.

It happened with Spain under Del Bosque where possession is used negatively. You're essentially keeping the ball to keep the other team from scoring, with chance creation and direct running being second to maintaining control defensively. All this stuff about the "United way" is ridiculous. Tactics dictate how a team behaves on a pitch, not some invisible force holding the team back due to not doing things the right way.

Yes but 8 games in is far too early to suggest he is another nani. Surely you can understand that?
Yeah okay I was wrong to make the comparison.. He has been a very wasteful player for us so far though, still it's very early days like you say.
