We'll have to buy another striker or two then because LVG doesn't see Rooney as one and RVP looks in decline. If Falcao keeps playing like he did today (and we stop the 352 crap), he will score goals and we should keep him.
I still think Rooney's in his plans as a striker. Hopefully we'll see 4-3-3 next season. Rooney as central striker. RvP as backup or sold. Wilson and New (Hopefully Lacazette) as backups.

    Oh sod the bloody balance.
Yeah, I'd rather have us play less 'balanced' and create more chances, if we concede a goal or 2 along the way then so be it, we have the firepower and creativity to score buckets of goals but this shitty tactic isn't enabling us to do so.

Poorly timed run  The pass was shocking, pushed him wide when he would have been in on goal with a well weighted ball.
No it was poorly timed. Right before the pass Wilson stopped. The gap between him and the defender was a few meters. The pass was in line with his run before he stopped.

Pass could have been less wide but if Wilson hadn't stopped dead he wouldn't have had to run as far out.

Here is why LvG is still persisting with the 3-5-2 formation

Van Gaal: 'I know in advance when we play with four midfielders in a diamond we create more chances. But the balance of the team is weak.'
How bout he does sth about that then.

Disappointed that Herrera only got 30 seconds despite Rooney looking lethargic the entire game.

Apparently we had 7 shot on target. Anybody remember them?
    Carrick from range.
Falcao volley from Mata pass, there may have been a rebound too?
    Falcao header.
    Fellaini goal.
    Wilson rebound shot and goal.

Can't think of the other, did we test the 'keeper from a swung in di Maria free?

So playing with a midfielder up front when his main strength lies in running at defenders; a striker in midfield when he can't pass for toffee, #10 in central midfield when there's a natural CM in Herrera available; and letting a central defender take corners is giving us balance is it?

Sorry Louis, I don't buy it. Unfortunately it just sounds like an attempt at forcing 3-5-2 down our throats and then looking like a genius on the rare occasions it comes off.

Before you could say that it was injuries that was forcing us to play 3-5-2, but even that isn't the case any more.

I am not happy that we are using this season to give Falcao a chance to earn a contract. He has moved Rooney into midfield, RvP is not the old RvP, or actually he is the old RvP and Wilson is a kid. If we had a forward line that was banging goals in left right and centre then we could take the chance. This season is too important to be messing about with the formations and rehabilitating players who aren't actually ours. We have to get into that CL and I am worried about the lack of goals at times.

Agreed, but is the reason behind moving Rooney into midfield to allow Falcao to thrive? I don't think it is. I genuinely think LVG thinks he's our best midfield option at the moment alongside Carrick and possesses the qualities to play there and affect the game more, ahead of Herrera and company. LVG has demonstrated he doesn't care about dropping Falcao.

Rooney is our best goalscoring threat by a distance, and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet to play up front and not to accommodate others, if that is indeed the case.

Rooney would have scored a couple of those Falcao misses today. It worries me that when Wayne is moved back, it is going to take him time to settle back in as a forward.

Team looked a lot better when Di Maria moved back into midfield. Not sure I agree with the Rooney comment. He doesn't tend to sit on the opponents back line and get in positions that Falcao does.

Rooney is slightly quicker though and Falcao just seems incredibly slow, which is making him seconds from getting to a ball properly.

Im really glad wilson didn't feel the need/pressure to pass back to di maria or falcao.
He probably should've passed to one of the above to be fair, as they were in better positions, and he was fortunate that the rebound fell kindly in his path. But he deserved that piece of luck because his overall contribution was fantastic. Hopefully that cool finish proves to be a big confidence booster for him.

Falcao was unlucky not to score and will score more if given a consistent run of games I think. Rooney (playing out of position) and Mata were both very sloppy on the ball.

I'm also going to be very controversial here and say 3 at the back doesn't suit us.

Whats sad is this performance was probably a one off, as we always hammer qpr, as they are such a shit team

If we played like this against qpr , most of our matches against proper teams end up how we played against SOTN, with very little being created

It all boils down to 2 things, using a formation which clearly has failed multiple times and doesnt suit the team at all

And secondly what the feck is point of playing so many players out of position when you have a full squad

I think if we had Pellegrini we would be playing some great football, dont know wtf LVG is doing right now

This team is so disjointed at the moment. It's already said but the lack of quality is absolutely shocking. We have too many players who can't play a ball to their own players even when there is no pressure on the ball. Not being funny but we still need another 150m spent on this team.

Not quite as simple, but when you factor in wages, cost, age and the fact that we have two Falcaos already...

The decision is fairly straight forward.
True, not quite that simple. But I know I'd rather keep Wilson and invest the Falcao cash into a proper defensive midfielder than into Falcao and letting Wilson go.

I agree that there is no cohesion in our play. I'd say the quality is there (to do better). That we haven't I would place most of the blame on the gaffer.

I agree also that we need to spend heavily to get up to scratch.

CB- this is just a joke. We need a commanding CB a la Vidic, Staam. FFS please someone take control at the back and organise that back line. I say we need 2 centre-halves and 1 right back.

CM - I want us to return to the Keane/scholes type of combination. Easier said than done....But FFS we've still haven't addressed this problem. Pogba/Strootman or both. Maybe Herrera can partner one of these two.

Wingers/wide midfield - I'd play Di Maria here and let him roam infield. We need another similar type with pace to burn. Depay?

Not being funny but I can't believe how bad our defenders are at times.
