I'm not sure I would trust Herrera and Pogba together to be positionally aware enough for this kind of game either. At least Herrera can run around a lot, harras their players and stop them from playing.

Having said that, it's still Pogba. He should play in a match like this. Maybe he really doesn't feel 100%.

Since then they've also beaten Atletico Madrid home and away. Why risk underestimating them with the stakes so high?
Risking it against Sevilla? They beat Atletico Madrid, wow, unbelievable achievement. Hopefully they don't annihilate us so we can have a chance to play counter-attack at Old Trafford and maybe nick a goal or two.

    Mourinho's explanation in full -
“Because McTominay is working hard every day, he is feeling good and strong, he played the last match for 90 minutes and Paul last Saturday wasn’t able to play and this is the kind of game where I think a player must feel 100%.

“We are going to play with 3 midfielders and Paul can play in one of the two roles where Herrera and McTominay are going to play.

“Paul created some doubt by not playing on Saturday by his own decision, he was not feeling good and that created some doubt.”

Looks like Pogba had refused to play very late on and Jose is punishing him for it. There is definite tension here, it has come at the wrong time of the season for us. Think if we dont win, there will be leaks from Pogba's side about playing under mourinho etc. Really bad timing, i thought our squad rebuild was going on great, the club was moving in the right direction, this is a big speedbreaker on that road.
So did Pogba come in the last minute on Saturday and say that he doesn't feel 100% to play, thus throwing Jose's tactics out of the window

Games in Europe would be better if Clive Tyldesley and Ron Atkinson were commentating for MUTV.

Tyldesley is just wasting his career at ITV

I don't blame you for thinking I was serious. I'm one of those 'Jose lovers' that believes the manager should be backed until he stops meeting his targets. I was summarizing what the player performance threads said about every player, almost of those threads think our players are shite.
Had a feeling you were, :) I especially liked the comments from a few posters who said we need a good victory tonight as they were worried about beating Sevilla in the home leg - this makes no sense at all.

I thought that Banega was injured for this game, but apparently not.

I got Jose back on my sack-watch with Pogba on the bench, playing 3-man midfield...forcing Young over Shaw....Unacceptable!!! unacceptable

I love the whole "Caf hates the line-up, so we'll win" myth, there's plenty of line-ups that have been hated that have performed just as shite as was feared.

This line-up has more Pogba mind games bullshit and a midfield with no creativity, it looks like we'll be in expensive Stoke mode, just inviting pressure and hoping Sanchez and Lukaku do something on the counter.

come on hope we perform well. Not fully happy the way we are going currently with Mourinho, but let's focus on the game now and go for the win.

BT are a bit dull critiquing Pogba when he’s not even playing. C’mon, talk about the game ahead.

Because it is not a horrifying line-up. We have had worse line-ups than this.
It is a just defensive line up which seems far better than Jose trying to bin 6 attacking players into the team losing all balance

But Pogba tweeted he was gutted not to be involved. Doesn't make sense.
He is not going to tweet, i missed the match cause i couldnt be arsed and wanted to show mou that i am the best player in the team.

I like the front 3, I like having a midfield 3 (and herrera and matic being part of it), and considering options available, the back 5 is fine. Obviously would prefer Shaw but him not being part of the squad at all I assume he's injured or sick. Lindelof-smalling makes sense, as they have a bit of a partnership and better balanced then having 2 center backs who are shite on the ball. Put Pogba for McTominay, Bailly at center back and Shaw for Valencia and it's probably our best lineup in terms of balance and players being at their prime now. Love Martial but for this game, best to use as an impact and trust with Sanchez, Mata and Lukaku front 3.

Don't see us winning this. Not because I am just a pessimist but mainly because Sevilla is a tough place to go. I'd gladly take a 1-0 win, 2-0 win and be over the moon

The myth works better the other way around: when the Caf is seemingly unanimous in loving a line-up, we almost invariably fail to produce anything remotely resembling football.

    Pogba warm up
Just watched Pogba warming up with Darmian for a couple of minutes.

He misplaced around three passes, failed to execute a simple dragback and let the ball bounce off his foot when trying to control it.

    Maybe Mourinho is right.

Or maybe his heart just isn’t in it after being dropped tonight.

That's one underwhelming midfield. I hope we don't get bullied by theirs, the midfield battle is key.
    Bullied?

With brutes like Matic and McTominay in there? Plus Herrera who can put in too?

We might lack any sort of forward play in there, but we won't get bullied.

It's a line-up you could watch via teletext. We are Manchester United but approach any vaguely difficult game in this cowardly manner due to the manager we have.

Darmian on the bench over Shaw is nuts though.
To be fair Darmian offers full back cover for both sides, albeit to a questionable level. If we swapped Shaw in for Darmian and then Valencia had to come off injured we'd be looking at Smalling playing right back, which I can't imagine many of us would like to see.

Shaw would be a better RB than Darmian for sure.

Correct. And the club thinks that it is the right approach and hence gave him an extension

Taking the next corner instead of Jones!
BT saying he's sensational going forward, almost at the cost of one player when defending. Rio says that the team should be set up for his strengths but the consensus is that Jose prioritises defence more than attack so it's not surprising!

Omg, that's ridiculous, he's analyzing his warm up.
