Last time United drew the 1st leg at home 2-2 and still won the tie was against Porto in 2009?

I use to dread these trips to Spain as United had an awful record there. Better results in Spain since the trimming off Barcelona 4 years ago and hopefully it continues that way on Thursday.

    V Betis 0-1
    V Barcelona 2-2
    V Sociedad 0-1
    V Atletico Madrid 1-1
    V Villarreal 0-2
    V Granada 0-2
Think so, but no away goals rule now so it's changed the dynamic somewhat.

The Porto game was different in that we had to win there because of the away goal rule and no English side had ever won there.

In this tie we still have to win but so do Sevilla, and we can beat them in ET or Pens if necessary.

These lot are not that good and we really should be beating them even with the absentees we have.

But you just cannot trust us in big away games , bar the odd exception we just don''t turn up and we don't handle pressure well , we will need to on Thursday.

Would be a big disappointment to bow out of this so close to the finish line against such a poor side.

Martinez and Bruno is going to be a big miss, not only because of their ability but also their "street"-smarts on the pitch. I fear this game will be very much centered on the dark arts from them, we need to not be stupid and also counter them with the same.

Looking forward to it. Nothing to lose really, and strangely feeling that we have our backs against the wall (due to the injury situation and odd nature of the Sevilla comeback) may help us.

If Rashford is fit, than him instead of Sancho, but the rest picks itself.

ETH facing some really hard choices in this one, with some hard unknowns thrown in.

Defence: I'd imagine Lindelof and AWB will pick themselves after recent performances. Will Shaw be healthy in time? If yes, it must be tempting to go with him as the other CB, and keep Dalot on the left, even if Malacia is back to health. Ideally and given the investment that has been made recently in building his confidence with game time, you'd look to Maguire to start - especially as we'll be without Varane and Martinez for some time going forward. But his performance against Forest to me raised real questions if he can be relied on. Lindelof was much, much better - and Shaw has been too, when called upon as CB. On the other hand, Shaw has been out, and was on a concerning trajectory in his last few games before that.

In the midfield, it's surely got to be Eriksen/Casemiro, with Sabitzer at #10. If Sabitzer is still out, what then? Eriksen at 10 and McTominay or Fred as the 8? But at least we now actually have some real options in midfield, even with Bruno out.

The forward line will be easiest - Sancho, Martial, Antony. There's effectively nothing else at the moment.

Strangely, Utds season could be over by this time next week.
    League Cup won
    Out of Europa
    Out of FA cup
    Top 4 almost done.

    Hope I’m wrong!
Would still have taken this at the start of the season.

Might as well go for it, not arsed about the FA Cup tie with Brighton as City are winning that cup anyway. Just drop Sancho please.

Edit: I forgot Bruno is suspended. :nervous:

Maguire will actually be able to show is real strengths in this game. Sevilla are very direct, hitting long diagonals, perfect for Maguire to dominate aerially.

I wonder if Sevilla will go with Lamela at #9 again, my surface level analysis is that he will look for the ball and come deep, hopefully preventing Maguires lack of pace being exposed.

We should have enough to see this one out, Antony playing well, Martial looking solid on the injury comeback trail. Rashford should be in for Sancho if he is fit enough, if not, a Sancho 6/10 should be enough as well

Same starting 11 as Sunday I would say, except maybe Fred for the suspended Bruno and go with a more compact midfield 3 if Sabitzer is still a doubt.

Wether we could actually beat them is another matter given current form etc etc but the FA Cup is the only competition where we have it in our own hands to stop City (assuming they beat Sheffield United in their semi) winning the treble.

    There's only one United!
Pity that Bruno is suspended as he really played well yesterday.

my guess is the game ends in a draw and goes to penalties. Still cant believe we blew a 2 goal lead that badly last game. At this point getting a little bit taken off the game load wouldnt be the worst thing. Just want to make it thru the game healthy first and foremost. No injuries to anybody else please.

I would bet on one of our Brazilian to score the winner, but on the other hand I would also bet on Seville advance to hedge the emotional lost.

I am usually quite positive for upcoming games but for this tie I expect us to get beaten quite easily. They will bully us and we will fall for it in a hostile environment. Spanish teams are just that tad bit sharper and more focussed in Europe compared to English teams. We will also miss Bruno so much, we will barely create any chances.

What is it with supporters sacking off the FA cup as ‘city will win it’ anyway? Back in 77 Liverpool were odds on for the treble - already won the league and had the European cup final later the following week after playing us in the cup final. We fortunately didn’t say ‘might as well get knocked out’ in the semi final . By the final we may have all bar Martinez back. FFS - we are Manchester United - some supporters eh…..as for this game, the second half performance at Forest was a real confidence builder for all involved. Bruno out is a blow but we have options in midfield more than elsewhere. They are beatable if the players believe. A clean sheet and loads of chances created will have us bouncing into this game. The last 10 minutes was an aberration. 2-0 Reds.

I would very much like us to go here and shithouse our way to a result regardless if we go all the way.

They were resting loads of players due to the relegation 6 pointer away match against Valencia in La Liga (which they won 2-0). Now they've steadied their ship a bit, 8 point gap from the relegation places and have a home tie against a significantly weakened and rather tired United to give their season some genuine meaning. Their fans certainly create an atmosphere and the team has plenty of know-how in the dark arts.

I'd make them favourites to progress to the semis, but a win there in these circumstances would be the 2nd biggest achievement of the season after knocking out Barca (we had a pretty favourable run towards the League Cup).

A win there and I think this team's confidence will generate enough momentum to finish this season very well.

Without Bruno it’s going to take a lot of luck to beat them. Hopefully Sevilla have used all theirs up.

Even if we are without Rashford I think we will still score at least 1 goal. The key is to avoid stupid mistakes in defense like we made at home.

It will be the toughest game of the season so far in terms of stakes and our availability situation ( missing Bruno, Varane, Martinez and possibly rashford )

But when we win it'll make it even sweeter.
