Sorry, but I just don't think his performances merit inclusion.

I think he struggles with the opposition closing him down, which they all do now. When he played for Juventus, and to a certain extent France too, he was in a side which was generally better than their opponents and in an environment where he was given time on the ball. Playing for a below par Manchester United in the English Premier League has come as a bit of a shock to him.

Whilst I doubt he will ever make the adjustment - I don't think he's smart enough - I do allow for the possibility that he may improve markedly if we were to replace the manager. However, unless something dramatic happens between now and kick off, Mourinho will still be the manager, and Pogba will still be a liability.
We need our best players to win games and climb up the table.

I want Pogba to leave just so I don't have to randomly come across this type of trash analysis. In 2018, every creative, young, flair player in the word is a 'liability' in a Mourinho system.

There are managers at big teams who actually coach players on where their hands should be in relation to their feet when receiving the ball. Yet, Mourinho cannot even effectively coach attacking play, movement, spacing etc... He's struggling to even cement a solid back line without Rui Faria.

And there are JM Kool-aid drinkers who want a midfield of Matic and Fellani and some other misfit or player that hardly plays. The best chance creator, the best passer in the squad. The best outfield player. End of story.

Why did you include the other players then? They all have similar struggles and issues. Pogba is just better than most/all of them. To me it’s incredibly clear you’re just singling him out due to your frustration with him right now. I can’t possibly believe you objectively think he’s isn’t good enough to make our match day squad.

I make you right. This isn't City or Barca midfield we are talking about leaving him out off, this is Matic, Fellaini and other. Something is very wrong at this club and Jose decisions feel like it's a personal and not a football one. Let's hope we have enough of a club left when he eventually leaves....

Is there anything more ridiculous/embarrassing then losing to Mark Hughes' Southampton?

Also, just noticed that this game has generated a massive total of 4 goals in the last 5 meetings between us.

Way to go putting this one on the tele BT sport...

Mourinho reveals Dalot will play against Southampton
Diogo Dalot is set to play against Southampton this weekend, Mourinho has said:

“The opportunities will always come. Phil Jones was not playing. Lindelof got injured and Jones had the opportunity to play against Young Boys. It will happen all over the place I believe. For the other game Luke Shaw was suspended and now we have Ashley Young with four yellow cards. Who knows when the fifth is arriving? Players must be ready. In this case some are going away to the medical room and some are coming back. For example this weekend will be the first call for Dalot. He is ready now. He had an important injury, surgery, then a second injury in the national team when he was coming up, when he was already playing against Young Boys and Derby County, when he was almost here. But now he has been training for two weeks and we think he is ready now.”

Sanchez unlikely to play again this year
Jose Mourinho has provided an injury update on Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean sustained a hamstring injury in training on Thursday:

“The first thing I can say is that in every club, when a player is not playing it is a simple manager’s decision. In our club when a player does not play it is always because of the player is not behaving and has disciplinary issues. Of course that is not the case again. He has an important injury, I don’t want to risk by saying for how long he will be out but from the top of my experience I would say he is not playing this year.”

First of eight games in December - chance to turn season around?
“Yeah I told that before Crystal Palace, it was November but was for me the start of a period and we lost two points, we need points and we have now in spite of a Champions League match in December but is a Champions League match different, we can now focus on the Premier League, not even cup matches yet, cup is for January and we need points.

“We want to improve our position in the table, we want to close the gap to the top four, we want to be smelling these positions, if not there then just behind then just smelling for the second part of the season. But everybody for different reasons need points so it’s not like we go to Southampton and they don’t need, is not just one team for high level of motivation. So we are going to have a very difficult match against a team that I know are not going to have any problems, the team, squad is good, the club is very well organised for many many years, they are not going to stay in that part of a table for a long time so difficult match for us.”

What does Mourinho put inconsistency down to?
“Depends. I feel that in some matches the way we start is not that intense, emotional, aggressive way where I would like the team to start, other times like for example against Young Boys we had that start I imagine what the game could be after 10 minutes the result 2-0. Sometimes it’s because of efficiency. We don’t score chances that we have and chances in this case, goals have a huge impact in the way the game goes, obviously Young Boys wouldn’t defend the way they did if after 10 mins they are losing 2-0, sometimes is because of efficiency, other times it is because of the way we approach the game, and obviously it’s a little confusing, because all of the work is based on strong starts and being intense and aggressive since the beginning.”

    Sanchez injury latest
“No scans yet. But the player is experienced, the player knows what the injury is and also from the top of my experience, just the painful scream and the way the injury happened I know it’s going to be for a long time. Is not the little muscular injury that in one week or 10 days the player is ready, is for me and also for Alexis, the feelings before the scans is that the grade is different than the Lindelof one and the Lindelof one was not an easy one so I think Alexis has what I used to call an aggressive muscular injury.”

Will late winner vs Young Boys give United momentum?
“I hope so but we are, if somebody cannot complain about the mentality, desire and belief is us. I don’t think many clubs in the country and abroad wins so many matches and so many points in extra time. Just going to Champions League, we did four additional points in extra time, two against Juventus and two against Young Boys. Also in the Premier League, we had Bournemouth, Newcastle, so we cannot complain about that part of our game. And I always think that the goal we concede against Chelsea, you feel it deeply because you don’t deserve and you are not expecting that, the goals you score in the last minutes should also be a special feeling, a special moment and like you say to influence a good future.”

Is Fellaini now getting the credit he deserves?
“I think now he’s getting [the credit], I think until I came probably no but I think now everyone gives him what he deserves. Everybody knows Marouane is not Maradona but everyone knows what Marouane is and what he can give. In this moment, especially this season and also last season he did many times what strikers couldn’t do which is score goals in important moments. I know him very well and I know the positions he can play, the jobs he can do, this season you saw him as a third central defender against Burnley and you saw him as a striker and as a number eight, which is basically the position where Marouane has more balance and know how but he’s very important in both boxes, in the first third and in the last third. Now people knows what Marouane is and he also feels that good feeling.”

De Gea future after midweek heroics
“I think David’s performance you have to say for 92 mins to be David there or myself would be the same, I can kick as well as him and zero saves, zero shots, to be David or myself would be the same. Don’t say it was an amazing performance, it was a zero performance with a save that only the best goalkeeper in in the world can make and that’s a fair analysis of his performance. He didn’t touch the ball and against Crystal Palace he didn’t touch the ball. When he needs to touch the ball he’s the best, he’s the best. He wants to stay, of course, I want him to stay of course, he’s the level of player Manchester United needs. Manchester United needs the best players in the world, if we want to be Manchester United we need the best player in the world. We have the best goalkeeper in the world. Obviously, the manager wants him to stay, the board wants him to stay, David wants him to satay, his agent is not the kind of agent that is manipulative like others, his agent lets him think and decide by himself so the point is to agree the contract that the club wants to give and that the player wants to accept... and this is just my feeling, they are going to finish well.”

I can't see a win. Southampton are a team fighting for survival with a squad that shouldn't be.
If they raise their game, which the will, could be a long 90mins.

He is being ironic and having a dig at the media here, right? Took me a few reads to grasp that its probably the case. Or? Weird quote in total otherwise.

I read it as having a dig at the press and their stirring. They have brought up Pogba and having his haircut before a game being the reason for dropping him.

I can't get excited for any match these days. A win just papers over cracks and gives the possibility of getting Top 4, which just keeps Jose around for another season. A draw and loss just reminds us of how bad we are.

I hate seeing Lukaku, Fellaini, Young, Valencia, Jones and Smalling wearing the Utd shirt now. Need a break from it all I think.

Right. But, I'm sure a lot of people here and everywhere will take it as "all about him" and rest of the crap.

Thank God Felaini had his haircut way before the game.

    anyway, Dalot  finally

I was flying from the US for home games around 10 times a season. Spent an absolute fortune. So yes, I need a break. It's not like I live in Manchester anymore can can just jump on the tram.

These are hopeless, even with our stunningly inept manager we surely can't fail here?! They can't score or defend. Should be routine. If we score early hopefully there's no embarrassing 11 defending our own penalty area like we did there last year, pathetic that was and we didn't deserve the win we got in the end.

I wouldn't blame people that need a break from paying subscriptions to pay to watch Utd on tv, or to waste their evenings/weekends watching though. It's all become so depressing and miserable now. I'd rather watch a good movie or play video games than take time out to watch Utd now. Does that make me a shite fan? Probably. Don't care.

Definite dig at the media, and though he has a point that every ripple in the water at United is elevated to a full-blown crisis these days the team have to great extent brought this on themselves. Jose is more than canny enough to know that when the football is good and results are positive adversity can be shrugged off, but when everything's bad on the pitch of course more will be made of negative stories.

Rightly or wrongly more is thrown at a team that is as obviously struggling as United are currently.

Excited to see Dalot for this, some actual width and options on the right for a change.

A must win game this. I find it fecking mental people wouldn't want to watch it when it could define whether we get top 4 or not, boo hoo things aren't going well that's sport.

So he's playing Dalot because he doesn't want Young suspended for the Arsenal game I imagine?

Still will be good to see him out there.

I don’t think this game decides top four or not, although lost points will be sort of a nail in the coffin. In my opinion we’ve already passed the point of no return, both in terms of points and the fact that other teams are better and more stable. And the fact that we just aren’t harmonious or happy on the pitch, seldom playing with a settled line-up.

We basically need to beat both Arsenal and Liverpool to be in the mix again, and I sure as hell won’t bet on it. Over the next two games, we can gain six points on Arsenal if we’re lucky... but that probably means Spurs is still 9 points ahead of us. We play Liverpool away before the turn of the season, Spurs don’t really have any big tasks after Arsenal at home.
