You honestly believe the situations are the same? Rooney was putting in awful performances for years and still getting picked every week, whereas Martial gets dropped after a great game or a substandard one. Even against Liverpool he was our biggest attacking threat despite having 3 players on him and was the first to be substituted.
At a club like United, players should be picked on merit not reputation.

Martial, at points this season, has been terrible and has fully deserved to get dropped to the bench.

We have 7 players competing for two wide positions so there is no place for passengers.

Martial is a very talented young lad and I'm sure he would have started today had he been fit.

    Magical Manchester United.
Win this, draw at the Etihad later between City and Tottenham and we're level on points with City, two behind Liverpool, three behind Spurs. That would be grand. Come on United!

I genuinely thought I would get 10/11 today with maybe Blind in for Darmian. It's impossible this year! @DanNistelrooy needs to reveal his sources.

Stoke are a physical team so Fellaini plays. We really need to win this so I hope it pays off.
It was quite predictable. Jose appreciates some height in the team both defensively and offensively, as well as some brawn. And Carrick clearly needs a rest.

Surprised no one is pleased that Mata is starting, we need his goals. And its not like Mhki is worse than Martial on the left.

I think Mourinho wants silverware this season and has prioritised the league cup. Hence no Martial.

Disappointed to see Fellaini start, just can't believe he continues to get game-time. I'm also concerned that not playing Carrick will leave less cover for the defence.

Pleased with Blind at LB, sick of seeing Darmin there and hoping he'll give us more balance.

Must win game after the scousers result.
I'm really pleased that Darmian is not playing today. He offered Martial zero support down the left against Liverpool and is actually one of the most cowardly players I've seen in a long time.

It's a shame as he looked really good for the first 2-3 games of last season before Van Gaal got his claws into him.

I'm not too bothered about Martial not playing as Mata deserves a start.

The toilet brush on the other hand getting a start just because he's tall annoys me.

Lets ignore him changing the game for us in our past 2 games then... he deserves it, Carrick wasn't great against Liverpool.

Massive opportunity to make up some ground on the top 4, with Liverpool losing and the City/Spurs match to come.

Come on boys!!! Back to winning ways in the league.

    What treatment?

We have lots of quality in his position and his performances have hardly made him undroppable have they.
He's comfortably better than our other options on the left but one bad half and he's out for the next game. There's no continuity with our attacking lineup which is part of the reason we score so few in my opinion.

I'm basing it on Jose not mentioning an injury so may be barking up the wrong tree of course.

We should probably just bench Carrick from now on and stick to long balls every game.

I completely agree with you in that Martial has been terrible at times this season and that, for the most part, players should be picked on merit not reputation, but, like Ronaldo, Martial's the type of talent you keep giving a run of games to despite how inconsistent he can be.

I'm not talking about today's game as I'm sure there's an injury or something, but I can't remember the last run of games he got despite being one of our better attackers in recent months. Most of his poor games were from the beginning of the season and was rightly dropped then, but he's picked things up in recent showings and still hasn't managed to get a run of games.

Anyway, I still think the team José's put out is fine, it's just that, on form, Martial is my favourite player in the squad to watch and I'm desperate to see him get back to last seasons form.

I don't care if it's a last minute offside goal off Fellaini's arse, we need to win this today.

I agree but its not a massive shock or a reason to be worried about his treatment imo.

Also Martial has huge quality but could be doing a lot more.

I think it's a mistake to replace Carrick with Fellaini. Liverpool pressed Carrick very well but very few teams are capable of doing that for long periods.

Never thought I'd say this but happy to see Fellaini start.

He's been solid int eh past few games he has come on and we need his height against Stoke (especially with Crouch lurking about). Glad to see Mata in also.

Like the lineup, I hope I like the scoreline.

Give it up. He's shown when he's played in his preferred position he can be a threat, it's not his fault managers play him in a different role is it? At least even if he's having a bad match he doesn't shy away from it and go missing like Pogba against the bin dippers. He might not be the best player but he gives it his best when he's on the pitch and that's all you can ask. Not his fault if he gets picked more than he should.

We need 3 points. NO EXCUSES.

Liverpool have dropped 3, and with Spurs v City playing later someone will drop points there also, so United better make it count!

You just know Crouch will get his 100th today, so we'll need to score atleast two.
