  1. Newcastle United now owned by the PIF | PL receives "legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control NUFC" ;)

Haven't really followed this thread, so just a couple of random thoughts: I cancelled my PL subscription this summer, and I'm glad I did. This takeover wiped out the last bit of enthusiasm for the English game (my interest in the Champions League waned a long time ago), and the PL deserves...
  2. Day 11: North Macedonia vs Netherlands | Ukraine vs Austria | Russia vs Denmark | Finland vs Belgium

Great atmosphere, but that Seven Nation Army-crap after goals annoys the hell out of me, no matter which team does it.
  3. Could Norway be banned from WC? FIFA threatens

This should carry absolutely no weight. Half the country has either no interest in football, or outright hates it. If you gave me a similar question about the Eurovision Song Contest or whatever, I'd probably call for a boycott, no matter what the cause.
  4. Day 9: Hungary vs France | Portugal vs Germany | Spain vs Poland

What is it with people saying "he had played the ball, so no penalty"?:houllier:
  5. Day 9: Hungary vs France | Portugal vs Germany | Spain vs Poland

That doesn't really matter. Otherwise you could just do whatever you want with a player after he has played the ball.
  6. Day 4: Scotland vs Czech Republic | Poland vs Slovakia | Spain vs Sweden

    Morata, ladies and gentlemen.
  7. Day 4: Scotland vs Czech Republic | Poland vs Slovakia | Spain vs Sweden

I'm surprised you didn't regard eating surströmming at any time of the year as a cardinal sin :)
  8. Day 4: Scotland vs Czech Republic | Poland vs Slovakia | Spain vs Sweden

Eating surströmming and drinking glögg today in honour of our neighbours in the east. Come on you yellow bastards!
  9. Protest at Old Trafford

We can get the second best option, though - that the Glazers finally wake up and realize that draining the club of resources will have consequences. With continued protests, they might eventually get their act together and make some firm promises about the running of the club.
  10. European Super League

Warning: Incoming rant about the Champions League. :) There's one thing the "Super League big 12" have managed to do (and you've got to hand it to them), and that is to convince the majority of fans in England over the last couple of decades that "nobody wants to watch [insert two quite decent...
  11. What's wrong with the current format of the Champions League?

Yeah, you can almost tell the age of a fan by the disdain they have for teams outside the top 15, not realizing that many of these teams were pretty damned good before the centralization of power and money in the game.
  12. Would the Super League be a success?

Yes, I am relatively optimistic that the European market will turn its back on this project. But I think it's quite clear that they are targeting a very young demographic, the ones who might become paying customers for the next few decades. Shorter games, maybe a penalty shoot-out after every...
  13. What's wrong with the current format of the Champions League?

While I'm not opposed to the Champions League as a format, I miss the level playing field we had before. I wrote in another thread about the first year of CL football, where the group stages had teams from Sweden, Belgium and Russia, but not England, Germany and Spain. Then the big nations began...
  14. Would the Super League be a success?

To be a fan in America/Asia, you really need to be a night creature. For the first time, they can move games to cater for these markets, and they will.
  15. Would the Super League be a success?

Yeah, but I'm thinking: What will the atmosphere be like? If English fans boycott the damned thing, the games wouldn't exactly have an electric atmosphere. In contrast, if the fan groups/ultras around Europe (Germany, France, Turkey, etc) get their act together in what becomes the new Champions...
