It's easy to forget just how promising a player he was. There seemed to be links with us and he looked certain to go to Spurs at one point. I wonder will he turn it around, to whatever extent or go down the same road as Michael Johnson (the footballer, not the Olympic athlete)?

Looked a great talent when he broke into the WBA team. His career has gone totally off the rails since then.

Was a bigger talent than Rashford is. Sad that he's not done anything with it. That move to spurs that got killed was probably a turning moment. Never the same after that.

I think the mental abuse dished out by Pulis & WBA in turn, is often overlooked in this matter.

He’s a talented footballer on multiple thousands a week but he’s still just a man & the way he was painted in that situation always sat wrong with me & honestly made me feel very anti-Pulis for some reason.

He was left out of the team to the detriment of his development & the teams.

That accompanied with what at the time were likely dormant tendencies mean i’m not surprised it’s gone this way - he had it ‘all’ & it was taken ‘unfairly’, he’s sought other vices to fill the void.

WBA as a club should feel some sort of responsibility in this.

There was a period I wanted him at United, reminded me if Andy Cole in his movement and finishing.

Many managers have tried and failed to get him to perform.
Complete waste of space.

No way he was a bigger talent than Rashford, maybe he was a natural better finisher, he probably was, but he’s never shown the class and the technique that Rashford has shown.

Based upon a few things, I'd wager mental health is or has been an issue for him.

Geez... these are atrocious numbers for a forward. Even clumsy strikers that play in relegated clubs at portuguese Primeira Liga get more goals than that in one season.

And trust me, I've seen some really bad players, technically speaking.

Glen Johnson is on talksport and is being brutally honest about Saido Berahino. Said he's the most unprofessional player he's ever encountered. Would tell anyone looking to sign him not to go near him. Says every time Berahino is asked to do something he'll do the opposite etc.

Wonder why his once promising career nosedived...

Just been reading about this, the following statement also stood out to me as to me it shows that Mark Hughes has no man management ability whatsoever.

'You might be running at half 10 at night on an evening or whatever. I understood why players were unhappy about it but that was the rules, but Saido would jog.

'We would supposed to be off on the following Sunday but because Saido didn't run everyone had to come in the next day, even the players that played the game.

'The next day, Saido called in sick. We were only there because of him and he didn't even turn up.

How can you respect a manager that punishes you because a team mate is being deliberately disrespectful?, I’m surprised that they didn’t turn on the boss there.

Somebody should have told him not to score then.

You'd think that they would have gone full metal jacket on him

Wasn't it said he failed a drugs test and that was why he was exiled for 3-4 months.

I actually did rate him big time when he first broke through. Remember him scoring some nice goals v Man. United and Arsenal in 13-14 and actually rated him higher than Kane.

Just shows how much professionalism is needed at top level, Kane has loads of it, Saido frankly dosen't and that's why he's just been released by mid table championship team at 25.

80s style management that.
