Utd won't be Utd until we have a couple of fire breathing Irish players tearing it up.

Of course, that would require Ireland to produce a quality player, which we haven't done in a decade or so.
Was just going to mention this. We are missing the Irish contingent. Is there no one up and coming who might be worth a try?

Holding
Tierney
Willock
Nelson
Nketiah (out on loan)
Smith-Rowe
Saka

We've also got some decent, young British talent.
Hmmm not quite the same but I see your point. United's started the past few PL games together. There's even more to come with the likes of Garner, Greenwood, Tuanzebe and Gomes.

When Arsenal field 7/11 of those players in consecutive PL games we can talk.

That said you have a couple of good prospects.

Certainly think Chelsea are second in the list (although not sure about some of those players as they haven't been involved yet). Is it more down to circumstances or choice do you think? Guess we will know when the ban is lifted.
Circumstances forced our hand a bit but we had to go down this route eventually and you could argue we already started with Christensen, Odoi and Loftus promoted in the last two years.

What I mean by had to go down this route as I do believe the current crop mentioned above are the real deal and if we don't make use of them, rivals will (we already have/had Bayern and United keeping tabs on Odoi and James respectively).

We started 4 against Newcastle. If Holding and Tierney were fit they'd have started too, but Chambers would probably have dropped to the bench. So 5/11 isn't bad.

For us once we get players fit we could have a list that looks like this.

James
Mount
Loftus Cheek
Hudson Odoi
Abraham

Barkley on the bench, Tomori and Cumming in the squad, hopefully Ampadu and Gilmour to follow in the coming years.

Christensen is also a homegrown player through the academy although not British.
I hope it stays like that. Abraham starting every week for you would be a treat.

Wont make a difference when the team doesn't amount to much.
Who knows? The teams from Ed's Galactico boner superstar XI didn't exactly amount to much either, but what I do know is I'll have a lot more fun supporting this crop of homegrown players who want to be here.

You're missing James Garner from your list. Many expect him to make a breakthrough this season or next at the latest.

Good thread though. It's nice to see a strong British contingent representing the club.

Declan Rice was nearly Irish for a while, but in a word.... no.

Lee O'Connor is the big hope I suppose. He's captained several Irish underage sides and some of the United ones too. It doesn't feel right watching United without a great Irish player in there. We've contributed some great players over the years.

Gregg, Dunne, Carey, Moran, McGrath, Irwin, O'Shea, Brennan, Keane, Whiteside, McIlroy, Whelan, Best, Stapleton all played huge parts in the history of the club.

It just goes to show how far Irish football has fallen over the last decade or so. Seamus Coleman maybe is the only player you might say could have come in and worn the jersey well after Neville retired.

Lee O'Connor's quite good, wouldn't count him out yet. I think there's actually quite a good irish generation coming through, Deji Sotona and Mipo Odubeko (who just left us) are both highly rated and I believe have represented the Irish youth teams, Troy Parrott at Tottenham too.

Quality over quantity though innit.
Agreed. Although you can't have it both ways. The lists you posted for the other squads contain Andy Lanagan, Clyne, Carson and a number of young players who have never even featured for their first team.

I've been impressed with what I've seen from Garner in the under 23s so far this season. Got a few goals to his name too from the midfield. Is he still a bit lightweight to play with the first team do we think? Technical ability looks superb.

Yeah I saw a bit of O'Connor last season, notably in a few games against Liverpool. I was pretty impressed however he seems stuck between full back and centre half with no one sure where he'll settle? I appreciate he's not the biggest so I'm just wondering where he'll end up and if he's ready to get a chance given we have Dalot and Tuanzebe ahead of him at full back and centre half respectively. Loan perhaps to the championship?

Yeah but Spurs and City’s best British players are better than United’s. Arguably Liverpool’s too.

That's subjective of course.

I would say the pick of the bunch are Sterling and Kane.

You'd be silly to discount the quality of Maguire, Wan Bissaka and Rashford though who all have proven PL pedigree. Shaw could also stake a claim here.

The others are mainly promising youngsters however the difference at United is they are getting minutes.

We did this for a while, we have Bale, Huddlestone, Lennon, King, Dawson, Defoe, Bent, Jenas, Bentley and Frazier at a time, we were wank.

In our squad now we have,

Kane
Dele
Winks
Skipp
Rose
Kyle-Wakler Peters
Dier

All in or around the first team. Then kids like Parrot and Sessengon to come.

I imagine once Brexit hits and the Sterling drops to the same value as the Yen there will be a lot more clubs buying British players so it's smart business by the club to do it now. Sancho will probably cost around €150m (at my estimates that's around £2bn GBP in Summer 2020) so hopefully we can afford him by then, because I'd say the stadium will be empty if people have to decide between football and essential medicines.

Call it Brexit FC if you like, but I love the fact we're bringing British talent through again. It's refreshing to see the likes of Rashford, Maguire, and Wan Bissaka leading the next generation of young players like Greenwood, Gomes and James. I actually feel like I give a shit about this team, and it feels more like United than the teams we've seen with Falcao, Rojo, Blind and Fellaini.
Ditto!

They are also far less likely to 'dream of playing for Madrid'.

My biggest takeaway from these lists is that there are a lot of good young British players in general. Exciting times in that regard.

A couple decades ago if you said in the future much of the best young footballing talent in the world would be coming out of England and France you'd have been laughed out of the room.

This. Even for those who are not British ( like me), this is the biggest reason for advocating a policy of having a strong British core. Lots of terms get thrown around when you mention it, but it's a fact that most players from Iberia and South America would ultimately want to end up in Spain ( if they are good enough), so there's always a question mark when you sign one of them. Players from the Isles and northern Europe are less likely to have this "dream".

You could have clicked at McTominay that it’s British, not English.
I skimmed the names and spotted James as the only odd one out at first. What I lack in observation I make up for with sarcasm and bollocks apparently

Man, I can remember making these lists with Owen, Heskey, Warnock, Carra, Murphy, Fowler, etc. During our golden decades of 90s and 00s. :(

I absolutely love seeing the local lads play for us. Always a massive positive. Rashford is one of the best young players in the world and grew up a stone’s throw away. Love to see that at United.

Hope some of the other lads from the reserves step up.
How do you feel about a lad like Lingard stinking up the no10 position with no assist or goal since December ?
