Great topic this, it’s good to read there are others of a similar mindset.
I cancelled my Sky subscription 3 weeks ago, I wouldn’t mind paying £22/ month for both Football Channels but object to paying £27/month for Wharton’s a Sky say I must have the Entertainment Package. Fact it the entertainment part is shite and I barley watch so ineffective I was paying £49 for football. Sky didn’t seem interested so I cancelled. I’ve not heard from them since apart from 2 emails.
Wonder if I will?

If you can bring yourself to cancel, and potentially have Sky premium channels stopped for a few weeks, you'll be able to get a good deal to "come back to Sky". They recently offered me everything for £32 a month. I said no, they then called me a week later and offered the lot for £25 a month for 18 months + a one-off £10 admin fee. There's no way I'd be willing to pay full price given how the content I want is now split up across multiple paid providers.

I said potentially lose access to Sky premium channels for a few weeks, because often they'll call you during the 30 day notice period to offer you a great deal. They very rarely offer you a good deal anymore just threatening to cancel, you have to go through and process the cancellation and start the notice period to get the best offers.
Doesn’t even need to be weeks. Cancel via the phone or online chat. Refuse whatever shit offers they throw at you then using your remote control go to Services > My Account > Messages and you’ll have a better offer there.

Or you can leave it a few days and they’ll ring you up if you wanna try and squeeze a better deal.
I’ve been paying £34 a month for every single channel in HD with box sets for the last 2.5 years now by doing that. Was paying £75+ a month which I was justifying to myself by telling myself at least I wasn’t in the pub watching the matches.

Had an initial deal which they extended themselves by a year without me asking, that deal ran out in April this year. I did the above again, cancel and deal on my sky box. I was without Sky both times for a minute.

Anyone paying more than £50 a month for Sky is getting ripped off unless there’s broadband or something attached. There’s deals galore.

If you can’t be bothered to ring up and talk to anyone just log in to Sky, online chat, cancel and at least a 50% off deal will be there.

They’re relying on people not doing that and paying them stupid money on a rolling contract year in year out.

I do wonder if Sky’s days will be numbered in the next couple of years. Amazon and BT getting more and more into football.

Then Disney+ will be in the UK next year which will take all the Marvel, Star Wars, Disney films etc. The Simpsons too maybe which they now own but not 100% that will be leaving Sky.

And as more subscription services sprout up such as gaming subscriptions, Spotify, Apple, Netflix, WWE price rises people will start to look and at question what they pay out every month.

Shameful, good on Gary to speak out on this, the host is going to have a rough time on social media after this. I'm sure he's been told in his earpiece to say something like that, but that was extremely poor handling of this segment by Sky, and it points exactly to the problem Gary was expressing.

I didn't realise Sky Sports had all the views of its pundits. I guess Sky as a company think Pogba is a shit, I mean they've never said anything when Souness and Neville have criticised him.

Gary Neville was simply stating facts, both major parties have been embroiled in racism cases.

It's clear the FA needs to come out with a statement declaring it unacceptable and assuring protocol will be met including stopping the game. Problem is that they're more likely to stick their fingers in their ears than do that. I will happily rescind if I'm wrong but there's always a bit of arrogance about these things — like it couldn't possibly happen here (clearly wrong based on today).

Gaz is totally right in saying political matters have empowered certain individuals to act like this and I think what's most worrying is that it's being aimed at black people. These aren't the types who we usually believe receive racial abuse as we naively believe that it's Eastern Europeans who people dislike. Really, racism can be like a virus becoming hatred against outsiders of all shapes.

Sky should be thankful that Neville's opinion shifts the focus away from football (effectively SSN's commercial product) and onto society in general.

I agree with Neville on everything he’s saying but it’ll be the accusations towards the Premier League and bringing politics into it that has made Sky shit themselves and make the presenter say what he said.

It’s not as simple as the tweets suggesting that they distances themselves from “don’t be racist”.

Gary's spot on, I think the sky guy was trying to say it's not political, but hes messed that one up, I suppose he had a message in his ear. He's come out now and apologised, but sky should have done it not him. This has to stop, in all areas, I've even heard it in a under 14 park football, kids playing and opposition managers etc doing it not the kids or the few people watching.
I wonder how long G Neville last in sky!

Well if they get rid of Neville for being opinionated while keeping Carragher who spat on a young girl then they've got a bad moral compass

Agree, they done keys and gray over few years ago, can see them doing same to Gary, hope not , Carragher is like Collymore seems to get away with awful things and people have to forget about it.

They can say Carragher's was an emotional, heat of the moment response and they'll say Neville is using the platform to enforce political agendas.

NowTV now have a boost add on feature which costs £3p/m so football is now actually watchable, so for £30 a month if you're thinking of ditching sky but still want football it's a decent alternative.

I signed up to sky for the first time in years last night. Have had Now TV internet and some pasess for years.

I was paying £33 for the best Now internet (literally sky broadband) but I have now have exactly the same internet from Sky plus all sports, included Netflix subscription for 18 months, Sky box sets (used to be great, not sure what they are like now) their boost crap that came with a better router, cinema and kids for £65

Thought that was pretty decent considering I was already paying £33 just for internet and having Netflix bundled is worth a few quid. I get basically every channel except bt and mutv

They way they do sports seemed a bit odd now. Il never watch their cricket channel or anything like that. But il watch football, NFL and F1. Which is probably enough considering I'm paying about a tenner per month for the sports

I am pretty happy with Now TV’s sports season pass deal

£190 one off payment

even better when you have someone to go halves with, I did this with my dad, £95 each boom! Sports all year

Also got a deal with BT paying £13.99 a month for sports, which again me and Dad half between us

So our one off Payment to NowTV halved with Dad is equivalent to £7.91 p/m, plus £6.99 p/m we each pay for BT equates to £14.90 a month for all sports

cheap as ya like

well worth it if you have someone to half everything

As a City fan, listening to our games being commentated on my Liverpool players or United players on Sky and on BT I dont pay a thing. It's absolutely shocking. Imagine LFC having Andy Hinchcliffe or Kompany commentating on their game every week.

Tyler last night was shocking, totally excited with the game until City scored then it's like a morgue. ruins the game if you're not a United/LFC fan. But whatever, I dont pay them a thing to them and never will until all teams are represented fairly.

It's bad but sky only does that , because people are interested in Liverpool and United. Noone cares about City

In the main I agree with you. Although your timing is off considering last night Micah Richards was in the studio.

Mines goes up this month from £69 to £82 which I think is to expensive that’s with internet as well.
Do you guys think I could get it cheaper if I cancel because I like having it as I don’t go out much it’s really my only entertainment.

I was thinking to myself one day that if four or five people just chip in to buy one sky sports and then use sky go between them. You get one sky box and i think with sky go you can use four tablets or laptops. So that would be five people. Just split it between them.

In ireland you can get a sky sports mobile pass for 7 euro a month. That is really good. I am pretty sure you will get the football channel as well.

If was not using sky go i would be forced to do that.

@Thunderhead @Tiber @Liverbird how do you find Now TV performance / reliability? Any buffering / poor quality image? Do you stream on your mobile / tablet or watch on your TV using a Now TV device?

It does seem like good value but I'm wondering what the catch is.

That sounds a pretty good deal. Did you shop about and out that's the best way to go about it? What other TV packages do you have and what channels do you get in among it all. Tempted to do something similar.

i use sky go. Stream can be good and bad. Sometimes i have to reload it to get it working good.

About two minutes behind the actual time as well.

Still overall it is grand.

So is Now TV on mobile through the Sky Go app? I use that too and it does the job pretty reliably but it's rudimentary compared to BT and Amazon's apps. They really need to update the in-game features to have a timeline of key events and the ability to jump to any point in the stream.

Cancelled it this morning. I am one of the last in my close circle of friends to do it as well.

Where did it all go wrong for them?

Their coverage is crap now. They don't seem to get the big games or names anymore.

Andy Hinchcliffe yesterday on the Spurs-City game. Felt like you were watching a League Two match.

Same old pundits with the same old lines. Made up arguements that have been pre-arranged between Neville and Carragher.

Lost the CL and a lot of European leagues but still expensive.

BT are even worse but they get some decent pundits/co-comms on who have at least played to a decent standard.

The future has got to be a streaming service of some kind surely?
IPTV. Its the future.

I think Nowtv and Sky Go are different things. You only get sky go if you have a sky box. Yes like Nowtv sky go uses the internet, but they are different.

Nowtv is a separate app.

It is through Now tv that you can get a mobile pass for seven a month. It includes the PL channel.

Given my father has a sky account, i just use sky go through his account. If that was not viable i would get the mobile month pass.

Not sure what i would do for BT sports though. Maybe just go to the pub to watch any united games on it.
