Feck the PL and the broadcasters. I cancelled my Sky and BT subscriptions this morning, and I will be saving a fortune over the course of a year. I’ll watch every single match on an illegal stream.
I started with the month passes in lock down, and found it brilliant.
Maybe a big part of that was that all games were available - which was always the argument streamers made.

We'll find out!

I don't like the idea that you put £15 in, and you get a game like last weekend, that we'd lost within 30mins. With all games as part of packages you can ruck one off if it's dull or game over early without losing your value.

Anyone paying over £100 a month for sports packages need a slap, no actually, my apologies

They need 10 dozen slaps for being a moron

There are wayyyyyyyy cheaper options without even going to illegal streams!! Options that are 90% cheaper in some cases!!

Sky and BT are nevertheless rip off merchants but there are easy ways around their prices, I’ve no sympathy for idiots that pay full wack and moan about it
You’re on here saying split the bill between 3 people, not everyone has the opportunity to split the bill between family.

Calling people idiots and saying they need a slap for paying what is standard pricing is idiotic.

What are people supposed to do if they choose not to go down the illegal routes?

Not everyone is savvy in the ways of getting things for cheap. If you can get it for 90% cheaper as you claim it should be normal service should it not.

How would you even pay £100+ a month for sport?

Full price BT sports as a month pass is £25, and Sky sports is £33.99.
So that's less than £60 going that route?!

People seem to include the cost of their Sky tv in general into the conversation.
You have to take out standard Sky TV to be able to access Sky sports.

I think maybe people are factoring in their broadband as well which pushes your bill over £100

If they'd brought this in first it would be one thing - you can still stream it free elsewhere, but at last you have a legitimate way to watch a saturday 3pm...
But to have given them away free for 6months as part of other packages and then taken them away, it's a joke.

I wonder how much revenue they think this'll make. Surely Sky and BT will still want to pick the better games bigger teams for their packages, or people will moan even more.
And if that happens and you leave the Fulham, Brighton types for ppv, how many are even going to watch those anyway?!

Bizarre.
I agree, and thats the worst thing to do to a customer, to give them something and then take it away.

It was the same when Sky brought in "Prem-Plus" in 2000. All of a sudden, you had to pay significantly more for the same package. I don't see how it's viable now when streaming illegitimately is so easy. Back in 2000 your only other option was to go to a pub that was showing it, or go to the game. Now you can watch a game on your phone anywhere, with just a slight risk of a malware infection at worst.

I am using sky go off my fathers account. But if i did not have that, i would just use nowtv, 10 euro for a day pass. Still expensive as i would only use it to watch united.

They really should bring out a PPV for an individual match on Now TV. 5 euro would be decent.

I only watch united so i dont need the darts or tennis or golf. etc.

Yep - those days when you had to properly have the Sky tv dish, or go to some packed pub, or go to the game, which would be gold dust for tickets.

Now you can just casually do a now tv deal legitimately, or just click around on google for a bit. What a time to be alive!

Now TV is a streaming service isn’t it so you’d need internet access too. I can see the benefits of Now and probably could use it, might be a option in the future.

If they just made it cheap enough for everyone they’d probably get just as much money in return.

And here I am complaining about having to pay $20/month to watch games in Canada. Mind you, I get the option to watch any EPL and Champions League game I want

Seen an interesting post a few days ago, someone said Spotify & Apple started to charge only £10 a month to have all the music you want and it killed music piracy,

The premier league are so concerned about illegal football streaming yet they think the best way to combat that is charge people a further £15 to watch a football match on tv on top of there subscription, and then on top of that they also didn't think being in the middle of a pandemic where millions have lost there jobs wouldn't play a part, it's absolutely disgusting and i hope it backfires and loads of people cancel there subscriptions.
It has killed piracy, but it's also a disruptive technology that's destroyed the previously existing industry for record companies. I think SKY and BT are more in the latter camp than the former. It'll be interesting to see what happens next. Season ticket holders must be irate and I think a lot of people are now fed up with both companies. I've cancelled SKY Sports and am not missing it one iota.

I've never understood people who pay for something then complain about it. I remember when away fans took a banner to protest ticket prices at the Emirates (I think it was City fans, happy to be corrected). I'm sure the Arsenal bigwigs were too busy counting the money they just made for the rip off ticket prices to even notice the banner.

Yet that led to away ticket prices being capped at £30 in the premier league. So protests do work at times.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Do you think thats what they base it on?
England is the most expensive place to legally watch the Premier League (from your armchair) in the world. England (and sometimes Wales!) is also the only place games are held.

There are laws in place about the televising of games here. It's not a co-incidence that it costs more to be an armchair fan in a place where people can attend the games.

You are aware there were people before that paid to go to football games and paid for sky on top of that.

Complain about the market in general but this specific action does not affect the sky or bt package, their still the same as before, the last few months has essentially been a "free trial" and now you have to paid the companies steep price if you wish to continue with the service... 3pm games were always going to be PPV, look at what the EFL have been doing from the start of the season. In fact the PL are probably charging £15 because EFL teams are charging £10.

You've probably got people in this thread that complain about not spending 110m on Sancho and other players and then complain about this..
This whole catering to the working class argument does not exist in this sport anymore if ridiculous transfer fees and wages exists. Hasn't for a long time.
Yes I’m aware, I am one of those people but you can’t even begin to compare sitting in your living room on own to being at the match to try and justify a price

I dont agree with it being £15, especially with no crowd, but as i said it's probably because the EFL charge £10 already, the PL won't undercut them. That said, the EFL feeds are streams and not high quality. The PL need to at least provide a 4k broadcast for this price.

If you are a family of 4, for example, and were spending around £35 per head per ticket, £15 a game in total still might appeal to them. Match goers are definitely the target audience for this model.

End goal is fake crowd noise for ever more and rinsing people sat at home watching it.

Perhaps not on tv, but as above you can do it through now tv a lot cheaper.
Missed your reply earlier, maybe I’ll have to look into nowtv when my sky contract expires. It was bad enough when BT and SKY split the games and now this.
I may just get used to waiting for MOTD every week again, feck it

If you just want to watch sports and go on the Sky website to price it up, Sky TV with Sky Sports and BT Sport is 91 quid at list price. 70 with current discounts.

Maybe there are cheaper workarounds but most won't know about them.

Beauty of now tv is it's so flexi, jump in for a month, sack it off after etc.
They even offered a £25 a month 9 month deal that you can bin at any stage!
The best deal was the £20 a month, but only "selected" people get that, which seemed to be those who'd had a year pass last year.

I managed to wangle on that via pal, and that's pretty superb a deal.

BT only looks worth it if either United are on a couple of times, or the champions league has kicked in.

They should really be doing PPV five euro a game on Now TV. Someone on another forum basically saying that this is what the PL want to do, but Sky, more likely for money reasons wont do it.

When i can get a month of binge all i want on neflix for 12 euro, yet i can only get a day pass on now tv for ten euro, something is badly out of sync. Madness really.

Moved to Australia many years ago, so not privy to this, but..

The thought of having to pay 15 quid to watch ONE game of football on TV. What an absolute shambles.

Not had BT or Sky for about 12 months and never missed a single match.

Obviously, that includes attended games and games watched in the pub but this is a massive kick in the bollocks to all fans. They've shown all games between channels for the last 4 months and I think it's been fantastic given no fan can get to a game. Majority of people viewing will be paying for a subscription as well.

Imagine how much money the robbing bastards are going to make each week on a product they are already being paid for, this is a massive kick in the bollocks to all those who've lost their jobs an have kept their subscription going to watch the matches as well.

So someone paying £100 a month for sports and moaning about it isn’t an idiot??

Even if you haven’t got family or friends to split the bill with, NowTV have just literally advertised for £25 a month full Sky although regular customers were emailed a better offer including myself which was a £20 a month for the season.

BT Sports are always advertising every year on Wowcher for £7.99/£9.99 a month depending on which offer you manage to latch onto first

Even people with Sky have deals better that £20 a month because of threatening to leave etc but the NowTV Deal is more suitable for those that want to share making the deal better than any legitimate options out there

So how anyone is paying upwards of £100....no forget £100, even £40 a month, is totally beyond me

Maybe stating people are idiots is a little harsh as obviously there will be folks that aren’t “savvy” when it comes to these things, more the older generation I’m talking about here

Some people don't really think that is a sum of money worth bothering with. £100 is a tame night out for a lot of people.

I'm personally a criminal and just steal a lot of the shit via streaming so can't really get on a high horse.

Like someone mentioned earlier, they're adding in the cost of sky tv itself, which you can't get sky sports on tv without.
They might be adding in broadband too.

That wowcher offer seems to be linked to having a sky subscription too, so the cheapest "casual" thing is still the £25 a month for BT, and the £20 a month for 9 months for sky through now tv.

I said in some cases

In that scenario it would be a case of sharing with family friends via NowTV and BT Sport subscriptions of which isn’t just restricted to Sky tv or Virgin, you can view BT via just the app, most smart TVs or all NowTV boxes have the BT Sport app to log into

I think like someone else mentioned

Folks are including their broadband and TV deal into the package

I don’t have virgin so I wouldn’t know

But that was in response to someone suggesting one of the deals was just for Sky customers, so I brought up a deal for virgin customers

The issue I have with IPTV is it’s an inferior product vs when HD card sharing used to work. Maybe it’s improving though?

someone also mentioned decoding European premium channels...didn’t realise that was possible but presumably that full HD.
As has been said it is getting better all the time but the biggest issue is people want to pay a fraction of the full cost for something then complain when it isn’t exactly the same in terms of quality/reliability.

The product will always be inferior to an extent, as any mirror/copy is.

It’s also startling how many people don’t know about VPNs etc. I’m well removed from using SopCast on my uni laptop but to get the best out of it people need to do a little reading into it.

When I lived with my mother years back we had Sky & the issue in itself wasn’t the Sports Package it was that you had to have other packages as standard.

I don’t know if it’s changed or not but you couldn’t just get Sky & have only sports channels.

It was sold in sets, Entertainment, Kids, Movies, Sport but you couldn’t actually just have one without tethering it to others.

Maybe it’s different now but I think that’s why people give the whole value not just the package value.
