Ha, I had not thought of that angle yet. Guess it's a bit early to say, it's still a while away and VvD's status is not really clear just yet. I'm sure they'll start bringing this up if, after his surgery, they peg his recovery at a period that runs into the summer. At least CB is the one position that NL has some good depth in these days - but I keep reading how you can hear really well now without the crowds that VvD is a real leader on the pitch for NL, so even a similarly skilled CB won't be able to replace him completely.
I'm not sure if I agree that Fabinho lacks too much physically. He might not be as strong as Van Dyke, but he is able to compete with players for strength in midfield in general. While I think Thiago is pretty mobile; if Fabinho is moved to the defense, he would end up being their slowest defender by a big margin. So it would be interesting to see how that pans out.
It looks like Matip is also out for the game against Ajax, so let's see if Fabinho plays CB again and if Klopp pushes the back line behind to compensate for his lack of pace.
Agree on Fabinho. On Werner, more about the path of his run, as opposed to his top speed, which is pretty quick (100m time of just over 11.0 at age 16 according to the Chelsea site) by footballer standards.
Will be alot of pressure on matip from set pieces when they defend. Or even crosses in the box in general.
Could be that he isn’t the great at running with the ball. Agree that the path was mostly what caused Fabinho to catch up. Didn’t Pool quite some 10,2 for Salah on the 100m or in that ballpark, when he signed? Outpaced on every long run I’ve seen, so not too sure about that. Even Shaw outpaced him. great acceleration, mind. Not sure I put too much faith in quoted speed or 100m times for footballers.

VVD has arguably started the season just as poor or even more poor than Maguire. Imagine Liverpool supporters asking for him to be dropped?
Worth remembering that if there was retrospective video review of every potential red card incident in that game, Robertson would also miss Liverpool’s next few games. Blatant kick out at Allan which the ref somehow missed.
To be fair if Pogatetz made his horror tackle this season we'd be going on just as much. Only difference is we have widespread social media now.

We've seen that type of stuff many times before, haven't we? Liverpool are a notoriously vain and self-glorifying club. Their Suarez support t-shirts, etc. It stems from the fact that just about everyone who's now involved in football media grew up in a time when Liverpool ruled English football, so they're treated with incredible levels of reverence and kid gloves by journos, pundits and so on. They can do no wrong and are bigged up shamelessly by the press, so the club has convinced itself that they're simply superior to the rest. What few United men there are amongst pundits have to be so painfully unbiased and almost anti-United in order to be accepted while former Liverpool players are permitted to be fanatically pro-Liverpool.

Seems like some major assumptions being made in that article (Its the DM after all) - but would be crazy if true. Major blow to Pool and world footie in a way. Sucks when those things happen. At the same time I still feel more bitter about what happened to Shaw against PSV as being a massive injustice than this one. Im probably biased though.
