Thankfully he choked badly
Otherwise we’d have lost
Dunno what xg a shot from there is but it has to be more than 0.5-0.6 surely?

Just seems odd to pick that one moment from a match to have a thread on it. Run of the mill premier league game.

There's plenty of different decisions in matches that could go either way.
It's not such a random situation, I think the underlying question behind this moment is pretty clear and an interesting one: Should a someone shoot in a situation where he is odds on to score or square it to someone who makes it 99% but risk a possible offside? And is he to blame if his teammate is offside?
Given that it was offside it was obviously the wrong decision but I can't really blame Davies. As someone said, if he misses everyone blames him for not passing it and it's not his responsibility that Mina didn't manage to stay onside.

To he pass into a congested is an additional risk. A striker never makes that pass but Davies was a midfielder who had come off the bench. If he takes it on and misses he doesn't even come off the bench for the next few games.

Nah he fecks it up. His first touch makes the shot harder and makes the pass a better option. A better first touch and it's a much easier finish. Once he'd gone wide, the pass is, in theory, a better option. But he knows Mina is offside and Mina too should know to stay level. In that position when you can get your head up, he has a responsibility to know if teammates are offside or not, in the same way that they should be aware enough to stay onside.

Weird thread but yes he should have shot imo. Comes down to a coaching issue and lack of coaching for those moments

A pro footballer not shooting in that position is embarrassing, anything to de Gea’s right and it’s 2-1

Should have taken another little touch and then it would have been an easy finish.

Didn't Hazard say a while back when he was actually good he'd rather have 20 assists in a season than 20 goals? (one top level player certainly did interview saying that) so think he's the sort even in his Chelsea pomp who'd have squared from that sort of position.

If this was Man. United situation Ronaldo would certainly be expecting a square pass as he'd have knowledge to stop his run and stay onside so easy tap in.

Davies wasn't confident at all in that situation given he scores about one goal a season so still don't think it was a bad call. I mean Lindelof could've easily slid in quicker and turned it into his own net although not sure if it would've still been called offside with Mina around.

I think Ian Wright on MOTD was spot on. A man who was confident would take that on and a man who’s not been starting and has a bunch of minutes from sub appearances doesn’t.
