The city and how your family can settle is still important, that applies to anyone. If you have several offers as software developers, the city and country where you are supposed to work will definitely be a key point, because most of your time and your family time isn't spent at work.

Like all decent sized cities, you can buy food from all over the globe in Manchester, often from native chefs of those countries with the city being so diverse.

With the lakes, the peak district and North Wales/Snowdonia a relaxed drive away. Safe to say there are some incredible areas to live and have a great life, and if you’re a millionaire, well….
You likely stayed in a 2 star hotel or hostel, in a meh area of town, and ate at shit eateries, not quite the same.

You don’t have to like a city or a country to work and earn a living, don’t we? I doubt we love our workplaces/companies or even our collegues too much and we have to slog to work everyday. Fecking footballers driving their posh cars to training and their millions eh

I still can't believe people question living in manchester, I have lived here all my life and worked in some of the roughest areas, Manchester has changed so much over the past 20 years it's untrue, and obviously for the better. Unless you are going to put a footballer and his family in say Longsight or Cheetham hill they can't complain, Makes me laugh when people slag our city off, doesn't Paris and Mardris have slum/run-down areas? Really shouldn't be an issue for a footballer not wanting to live here
