This part is clearly BS from Arnold, you might have long meetings right before closing to sort the last details but there's absolutely nothing that would justify that a whole team spends weeks in Barcelona on this deal only.
Maybe our reps just want to prolong their stay in Barcelona.

Imagine if ETH gets what he wants.

ETH - Yo dawg, I heard Utd needed a midfield, so I put midfielders in the position of midfield, so they can play the midfield:

Keeper
Back Four

VDB Fred FDJ
Bruno Eriksen

Ronaldo

What do people think this weeks update will be?

Surely we’ll know one way or another by the end of the week if it’s being done

I think we might get the “huge progress was made over the weekend and now it’s just about structuring the fee”
United is still interested in FDJ, but has yet to submit new offer.

Fair enough and we don't know details of course.
Nevertheless, Bernardo Silva is turning 28 in August, so it will be his last big contract. Why would he accept lower wages to move to club that has less chances to win the league let alone the CL in next 2 to 3 years? It just doesn't make sense to me.
B. Silva can have a higher wage at Barca (than he is at City) and it's still below current FdJ's.

According to Spotrac, Silva is 150k/week, let's say he actually earns double (like United fans always believe), he's still below FdJ 400k/w.

Ten Hag recognising that we need two midfielders (at least) before anything else is very encouraging. Our biggest issue is and has been the fact that we lose the midfield battle against the vast majority of the teams we play against
It is obvious to everyone that we need signings there. I'll reserve my praise for when he gets a tune out of this sorry lot.

Really feel like this deal is a matter of time, unless Barca somehow find so much cash that they can suddenly afford to keep him. As many have often said, if Frenkie didnt want to join, then United wouldnt put these bids in. Reason it takes so long is because of Barcas situation IMO. United want to take advantage of it and therefore not improving the bids too fast. Barca know he's worth more than this and therefore holding off so far.

Understandable for both. If United had £300m to spend, then you'd say just bid 10m more and get it over with before someone else shows up. Especially since this is clearly the coach's #1 wish. But United don't have a huge transferbudget relative to the amount of players they want to bring in. Hence why United is trying to take advantage of Barcelona's financial position and not increasing the bids too fast. In the meanwhile Barca is hoping other clubs come into the race so they get more money.

Barca and United are bluffing eachother now and time will tell who will fold first. At some point Barca needs the cash to register the new players they want to bring in and on the other hand at some point United want to close the deal so FdJ can be a part of the preseason as well as not risking other clubs to spoil the party. Time will tell which one it is, but in the end in my opionion this is just a matter of time before this deal happens.

Based on what? Purely anecdotal evidence from a handful of transfers other clubs have done? I am sure you have tons of empirical evidence to back that statement up, and aren’t at all leaping to wild conclusions based on Liverpool signing Nunez. Because you know how long Liverpool were working on that deal, the demands of the other club, and their responsiveness. It definitely has nothing to do with the added level of scrutiny you place on our transfer business because of your emotional investment in the issue, repeatedly hitting F5. You certainly haven’t used a handful of completed deals around Europe to jump to that conclusion, and ignored the exponentially greater amount of deals that remain in negotiations and haven’t been completed. Definitely not,

But yes, ridiculous it might take a few days. Sigh.

Deadline day deals are considered financially and strategically impudent for a reason
1. If Liverpool got Nunez done early because they had been working on it during the season, why don't we do that with our transfers in as well? I'm not just referring to FDJ. Fans have been fed up because our club in particular seems to love dragging these deals out compared to other clubs.

2. Demands of the other club, their responsiveness: Our slow deals have not happened with just Barcelona. Again, this has been a fairly consistent thing that our fans have gotten fed up with.

3. Yes, deadline day deals may be considered financially impudent for a reason - if the selling team HAS to sell that is. It can also backfire spectacularly like it did with Fellaini, or we may end up paying what the selling team wanted in the first place (Maguire). What are all the other teams not doing this then? Because our board is smarter? Could it also be that even though it may save the club some money in transfer fees and wages, other clubs have decided that getting the players in as early as possible and have them integrate into the team with a full season is what they want?

4. Lastly, few days? I think the fans would be very happy if it only took a few days. That's what other clubs seem to be doing. They actually started much earlier? Maybe, although with how the media works these days, I'd be surprised that nobody talked about those deals if there were offers going back and forth. And what don't we do the same with our deals?

Firstly, a bunch of those issues I didn’t even mention, you’re debating a different point which I didn’t make. Secondly, while I don’t disagree with the new areas of discussion you brought up, why are you asking me those questions? I’m not a spokesman for the club. Ask them. I agree there are issues with how we’ve gone about our business in the past. lastly, the few days comment was specifically because someone got upset that it would take a few days to resubmit an improved bid. I merely pointed out that transfers are more complex than most transfer muppets have the patience for. A point which still stands. It was never in reference to the entirety of the negotiation process.

I’ve tried to give you the courtesy of a reply even though most of your post included replies and questions that weren’t relevant to the specific issue which was under debate.

Surely that would question the starting spot for Bruno and just after his contract has been upgraded?
I think Bruno will be moved into the wide left role like Tadic. Eriksen, VDB and even Sancho are probably going to play through the middle.

The bigger question is where does that leave Rashford.
Friends like that, who needs enemies.

Very poorly timed tweet.
Buddy doing him no favours
I think ETH wants to put a bit of pressure on the board as to not dilly dadle too much. I imagine he wants to hit the ground running.

Yesterday I was saying that the De Jong deal was key in our transfer business and all the haggling is because we also want to buy a LB in Malacia and we might need that extra 10-15 million we trying to save from De Jong in order to land his signature. I imagine next week once the De Jong deal will be finalized, we will move to more secondary targets.

I think answer your point #1 will trickle down to the rest of the points.

United has undergone some massive restructuring within the organisation. New leadership and hopefully a new approach to running the business. While you are not incorrect in the points you have mentioned, the fact that this is a new management team and with a new approach -- Arnold recognises it and is hands-off on the footballing side as mentioned in the pub interview.

That's a clear change in direction where the signs were that Woodward was the man in control who just didn't delegate his authority much. That's why reports a few years ago that the DOF position which was turned down a number of times because it was a glorified PR role -- whilst maintaining the control under Woodward.

Arnold also recognises that the Woodward regime pissed away £1.2Billion with little to show for.

That for me at least is a start -- the recognition that things were done pretty badly. There is a new team in place and a manager who only arrived a few weeks ago has the final say in each transfer -- which based on the reports hasn't been the case in the Woodward regime.

Ultimately ETH needs to look at the players on the training ground to make his own final judgement on their utility. Some are more obvious than others that they won't suit the current role (eg AWB) in the new system. Then other obvious gaps are in the central midfield.

He knows he has a budget to work within -- despite the naive chest-thumping comments made by Arnold. How does he balance out the most immediate needs versus the constraints of the summer's transfer budget?

He will have a much better idea next summer when he knows the players better. And the management team will have a better idea of his approach to the game.

The other top clubs have had their management team in place for a few seasons now. And certainly, any club that paid a British record transfer fee for a player like Andy Carroll -- cannot be seen as some unicorn of club transfer efficiency or be smug about how well run they are.

Business is cyclical. Football clubs aren't immune to that.

I don't think ETH is that naive to play this out in public especially when we are trying to ascertain the leaking players and make sure there is none of that, going forward. He has only been there 3 weeks. It would be supremely dumb of him if he did.

Boys, I have a sneaking suspicion that tomorrow will be a MAJOR update day. The new face of the franchise will be home soon. Please keep the positive vibes flowing.

Seemingly ETH sees FDJ as pivotal to the rebuild so it's time the bloody suits got on with it

Saw a story that City are now interested and he's more likely to go there.
Now that feels like deja vu as a story. If not an outcome.

Absolutely. It would hamper United's negotiation position with Barcelona big time, if the latter know FdJ will be absolutely crucial for ETH plans. Price will only go up.

They also can’t buy key players until they sell him. So don’t see how it makes a difference whatever we say.

Everyone has been jumping on the news Romero reported late last week about a new improved offer being sent.

Got to figure that if it's really 70-75m + achievable bonuses, that it'll get wrapped up soon.

As its CEO, Richard Arnold, revealed, it has several executives working on the signing of Frenkie de Jong and the first objective is to convince Barça United's new offer, according to
draper_rob 75M € + bonus. Barcelona asked for 80M € +bonus. They are getting closer...

That has to be accepted surely? Think this week is the week

Eventually, yes. They might want to test our resolve for a few weeks and see if they can get the 80M they crave. However, the earlier they finalise this deal, the sooner they can sort out some of their freebies.

Silva got maybe another 4 to 5 years to win titles, especially the CL. The chances are way higher with City (despite their frequent bottling in the later stages of CL) than the current Barcelona side.

After his career he can easily live another 40 or 50 years wherever he wants.

They know ETH wants only FdJ. This will only drive the price up.
Basic knowledge in every sales training.
Did you just ignore what I said.

So if you know someone needs to sell an item are you encouraged to buy at an inflated price?

Is that in the sales training pack?

Or some variation of that would be great.

Mctominay, Ronaldo, Elanga, VDB.

Backup options look pretty week especially if Greenwood doesnt come back.

We definitely need a forward.

BBC Sport gossip column reporting that Barca plan to wrap up the Lewandowski deal this week. Surely that means they need to move FDJ asap so they can pay for the guy and register him.
Direction of travel is all one way. CHOO CHOO!
