I take it this will only happen if frenkie is definitely off the table? I think SMS could be underappreciated just as yaya toure was when he left Barcelona as a DM. Abit of a meh signing from Barcelona and he turned out to be a monster midfielder who played and excelled in AMC and CM roles for city.

I'd be happy if we got SMS and Rabiot. Slightly more happy if we got frenkie and Rabiot.

Is there actually any truth in this? He’s a player that we’re linked with nearly every year. That’s how bad our midfield as been. We get linked with every midfielder in the world because they know that’s our weakest position.

Yeah him and Neves seem to be mentioned each window.
I am not an expert on him but from what I understand he is also more of a box to box player so he alone is not the solution. Additionally to someone like de Jong surely great.
Otherwise I personally would prefer e.g. Weigl who according to rumors might be available for 15 Mio, with Benfica being forced to reduce their wage bill as he is a classic 6 and would form a decent partnership with Fred. Not title winning, but much better than what we have now.

I think BOTH Rabiot and Milinkovic-Slavic are huge improvements over McFred.
Rabiot can sit deep shielding defence and also offer good passing options.
Milinkovic-Savic can be a box to box player

Given all the purchases that Chelsea have made / will make, surely Gallagher will be surplus to their requirements. Would not cost the earth and is an upgrade on the current midfield?

Yes - Telegraph's Jason Burt and I think one or two others of good credibility.
My thoughts are he'll here if and once FdJ officially is a no go-er.

It's the first time a link has come from "reputable" English journalists. Before it was just Italian journalists and their regular clickbait garbage.

I still have my doubts, though.

The only genuine link I consider is the official post. Rumours have great popularity, and that's why we're here.

I don't really see the point of this, it doesn't work with Bruno.

Doesn't look like a player capable of playing in one of the 2 deeper midfield positions to me, not a B2B guy just a physical attacking midfielder.

It could maybe work with him and Bruno as free 8's, but then you need a proper holding midfielder and an excellent one at that and United don't have anybody close to good enough to fulfill that role.

I must admit that ever since we have been linked to him I have wanted to see him in a Utd shirt.

There is no 2 deeper midfield positions in my opinion. There is one deep midfielder and two 8's. That is the plan I believe. In Bruno and Eriksen we already have this.

I hate the silence around this. Never truly believed the interest but I wanted to. He would be such a good signing for us. Decent costs, entering his prime, position/role of need. Feck.

So your answer to our problems is to sell Bruno? A player that despite being out of form and playing with a crowd of jokers around him was still our most productive player last season. Brilliant plan.
He's been the biggest joker in the pack.

Being our most productive player is irrelevant when his competition was Rashford, Fred, Mata, injured Pogba and Lingard.

He's not just been our most productive player, he's been one of the most productive players in the league since he signed for us, even when playing in a shit United team. But sure yeah, sell him.

No idea what you're so worried about there's not a top club out there who would want him.

Mate, Bruno is crap. Him and McFred are both liabilities with the ball.

even Jason Burt's links have been very non committal, he said he was surprised initially when he heard the link, then just yesterday tweeted again if we don't get FDJ , then we may possibly move for someone like Milinkovic Savic. I think most of us assume/ hope if FDJ doesn't happen, we need something, he's possibly one of the plan B's we have

42m? Put the money down immediately. This is too good of a opportunity to let go and he would be our best midfielder too.

United don’t go good business. That’s too good a price for us to pounce on. So no I don’t see it happening.

I’d take Gallagher in a heartbeat if we could get him. Think he has a very high ceiling. Do feel given our bargaining position and him being English it would cost us a small fortune.

I'm not sure why, but all the posters here in the caf have got the wrong end of the stick. The message just says we are after Milinkovic Savic, and people have assumed it is SMS. In reality, we are trying to bring back his younger brother VMS for £42m as a backup goalie to DDG!!!

Agreed. FdJ and SMS and Rabiot. That way we have buffer if one is shit.
Exactly. we are short in that area anyway given Pogba, Matic and arguably Lingard/Mata left.

Appreciate the squad did trimming but there’s clearly scope, and wages, to get him in along with another big name.
