20% over the profit. And Ajax paid like 15-20 million euro's for him.
Thanks.

Somewhat explains the high price they are demanding, as looking to mint every possible penny. However they would be cautious enough to avoid another Neres situation.

Eh i think the past has shown that every club who played hardball and rejected crazy offers like this ended up regretting just not selling the player. Don't underestimate €100m, for a player who is desperate to leave.... Just a crazy situation all around.
Did United regret not selling Ronaldo the first time Real came with a bag of money? Not comparing Ajax to United or Antony to Ronaldo btw.

Obviously its nice to have dreams but surely that evaporated last year when ETH left. Makes sense to have a long term goal but the cycle is over, now its time to rebuild again, and forcing an unhappy Antony to stay for one more year isn't going to change much. I don't think they are as competitive as BVB either, when they forced Jadon to stay that year it was because they still had a very strong team and just acquired Haaland as well and they were developing something special.
No they haven't at all, hence why they have backed the coach with huge signings in Bassey, Bergwijn, Brobbey. Ajax want to continue things right where they left him, though I think Schreuder is not of the same quality.

Ajax still has a very strong team, and are building something great. Personally I think they are of Dortmund's level at the very least.

If Ajax gets to the top 10 and win the CL on a wage budget that would put them 20th in the Premier League and is barely a quarter of Dortmund's, that would be quite a feat! If they sold Antony for 75m, it'd pretty much finance their wage costs for 3 seasons. :D So I agree it has to say something that they aren't.
It would be quite a miracle yes, but Ajax doesn't need the money. The money would be nice, and is great, and would help yes, but Ajax has already sold for a lot this summer. There is no need to secure their future for the coming years already.

You are right. Not a time to be ambitious, just sell our players to you without replacement lined up and suck it up.

Tnx for the advice.

Thing is, we actually have a very competitive team this year including Antony. But some just don't seem to understand it.

No way we pay 40m + for Ziyech. Might as well save the money and sell Antony for 60m next year and then be prepared for it.

But whatever. Just sell and lack ambition because reasons or something. Got it.

Well not only that. Antony was actually priced at 80m euros by Ajax in about a month ago. As we leave it too late to panic buy now, they now raised the price to nearly 100m euros. Maybe a lot of you didn’t realise, there is definitely big stupidity/incompetence in our part which forced ourself into situation to further overpay the already inflated amount against market value as compared to other player transfer of similar calibre.

At the end of the day I don’t mind us getting a quality player like Antony of course, but we are not only risking big money here, we are also risking our reputation in future transfer dealing.
That might be true, that we undermine the reputation we invested in when we waited a season for Sancho in a similar situation. The ‘we can buy anyone’ policy of Woodward takes some building down to repair! Then again, if it’s true we have called in interest on 30 players this summer, which some claim, it would also reinforce a reputation that we won’t pay anything for anyone. At the same time, others will use the same fact against us saying we’re ‘indecisive’, ‘unattractive’ or ‘a shambles’. Hard to win games of opinion.

Do you really hold it for proven that Ajax would have accepted €80m a month ago? What is that based on? It sounds very unlikely to me, but I may have missed or forgotten something. I’m not even entirely certain they will accept €95m now.

squad depth? Depay? I mean they could add you, me and my neighbour's dog... and people say Ronaldo should never have been re-signed...
Depay is a decent striker backup familiar with Ten Hag's football who plays false nine. I agree he's no big deal, but he's someone who Ten Hag's looking to sign by all accounts. All i'm saying is we need to sort the whole team out first with that money, before adding stars for €100m+.

By all accounts? I can't remember a single story linking us to Depay. Might have missed something, but it's not like that's been a talking point lately?

Strange that you refer to Mahrez transfer as recent (which was in 2018) but forget to mention the Grealish £100m last season...
Is Grealish value for money?

I don't think anyone would argue that he has proved worth £100m given his 3 goals and 3 assists or whatever he got last season.

We don't need 3 average attackers.
One proper attacker is enough. Eriksen is familiar with a front 3 role and so can VdB.
Sancho Rashford martial Antony is good coverage before you consider the other names.
That's the thing I don't believe just adding Antony is anywhere near enough.

How many goals can we realistically expect out of Rashford, & Martial? I know Rashford had a good game vs. Liverpool, but you're talking about players that got 5 & 2 goals last season, and only one proper attacker is enough? Antony isn't exactly high scoring even in Eredivisie, and VDB & Eriksen are no attackers.

Adding Antony means that now we have Sancho - Martial / Rashford - Antony. That's a pretty lively looking attacking front 3. Interchangeable too when necessary. Give them a few months and I reckon they'll be fecking ripping it up.

Regarding Rashford and Martial. Personally, I'd written both of them off to the point where I'd feel physical revulsion (not fecking literally before some pedantic tw@t tells me I shouldn't care that much) to seeing them walk out of the tunnel. Over the last few weeks however, and especially after Monday, I've found myself almost imagining both of the infuriating eejits actually coming good under TH's coaching. Such is my faith in our new bald supreme leader that I even will try and look at our perennial wasters, Rashford and Martial, through fresh eyes.

But their valuation might not have been met. It seems like their valuation is 100 million euro's, and you have him. We haven't offered that yet and are trying to get him for less.
Do Ajax seriously value him as 100 million or know that they are dealing with the Glazers business men buddies that haven't a clue?

Just two years ago Ajax bought Antony for 12 million.

If another 100 Million is to be splashed in this transfer window it should be done with 2 or 3 players instead of 1.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Only United has serious interest this summer.

He’s only saying united are confident to be fair. We leaked that we were confident on Frenkie for months.
But if Ornstein said so then it’s happening. Someone else other than Ornstein then it;s different story.

Yeah no chance Ajax are paying that. Their record so far is Haller at 19M GBP.

Chelsea want to get rid, player is old, so I think they'll drop their demands quite a bit.
They bought Bergwijn from Tottenham this summer for 31.5M€ so your records are outdated.

Looking at Transfermarkt values Bergwijn was valued at 18M€ and Ziyech is currently at 28M€. Both former Eredivisie players who somewhat flopped in the EPL.

To be fair 44M€ for Ziyech seems a bit much, though seeing how ridiculous the market has gotten in the last year or so and knowing Ajax are about to get a massive cash boost from the Antony sale Chelsea have every right to ask for a good fee instead of just caving in immediately and accepting a loan bid. Ziyech is about as good a replacement as Ajax could possibly hope to get, not to mention him already being a huge fan favorite of theirs and someone who knows the club in and out so should be able to settle in and start contributing immediately.

I don't think we'll get quite that much for Ziyech if a move does happen but considering the circumstances mentioned above it doesn't hurt to at least try and then maybe lower the price a little bit if they don't bite. Somewhere around 30-35M€ should be a good compromise I think?

Also, since when is 29 considered 'old'? Feck me I must be a dinosaur then. :(

Ziyech has never relied his game on pace so he should have plenty of prime years left before a decline sets in.

I remember at the beginning of summer we have shown strong interested in Antony and willing to go with €50m bid, and then has been discouraged by Ajax €80m price tag, as it has been widely reported from multiple sources back then, and then we finally give up on the pursuit.

It is now a case of panic buy after our heavy loss to Brentford, just before market is about to close in a week or 2. It’s no coincidence €80m is the amount we offer, which got rejected, so I assume it’s leaving too late for Ajax to say yes. We have to pay even bigger premium now.

Drastically different situation of course. 80m in 2008 was a world record. 80m in 08 is equivalent to what, 250m now? Its 100m for Antony, I just think that would be madness to reject from a club who doesn't get "infinite money" and will be favourites for the league anyway. Regardless of how many players you sold this window... You'll be swimming in cash to do what you want to rebuild which is needed anyway.

Agreed, he should be the kind of player that ages well. He could easily be looking at another 4 or 5 Eresdivisie seasons playing at a very high level.

Seriously though, you can't demand 100m for Antony then turn around and insist on a 'fair' price for Ziyech
We can. We never wanted to sell Antony. Chelsea on the other hand want to get rid of Ziyech all summer. The only reason to let Antony against our will is because we get compensated extraordinary well and get a replacement for a normal fee. If we can't, all good. Chelsea have the right to ask what they want, like us. However they are asking a ridiculous fee for a player the want to get rid of themselves. All good, but Ajax should walk away and hold Antony to his contract as a consequence (as we've always planned).
