Harsh on Gusto, think hes actually quite decent.
I think he's not good enough to be more than a squad player and that's if he can minimize the red card challenges he's making without getting punished. Poch playing his defenders in random positions is also not helping.

Yes, that is exactly what i am saying. Despite both teams being elite in the world of football, our teams are pretty shite due to bad recruitment over the last few years. So it is making managers look poor. It's not all on the players, some of the subs and recruitment is on ETH, for example, but you can't just go around blaming the managers as if they were telling the players to be shit.
I agree to an extent but I also think both managers are underachieving. Being in 9th and 10th with those squads is not good at all.

Was Lewis Hall on him? Don't think he's playing much at Newcastle currently
Well not sure all on him but he wasn't given him many minutes in pre season which was really frustrating. Every time Hall did come on in pre season he impressed.
So i blame Poch partly for it.

On one hand, Chelsea are a mess (probably even bigger than us) so you know their problems run deeper than the manager. But on the other hand, they've got no European football as a distraction and are having a poor league season. Could go out of the Fa Cup at Villa Park next week which would leave their season hanging on that Carabao Cup final vs Liverpool where they clearly won't be favourites to win.

I really like Poch as a manager and have for almost a decade now. But won't be surprised if Chelsea decide to part ways with him come summer. We've been really poor this season and Chelsea were the only ones that made us look like some top side with how terrible they played at Old Trafford back in December.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I'm surprised how his football has changed so much since his time at Southampton and Spurs. His high octane style with both Southampton and Spurs was what made him get to where he was. Perhaps managing those lazy feckers in Paris changed his approach, but I thought he'd go back to what he was doing with inheriting a young, energetic Chelsea side. They obviously have huge issues anyway, but he should be doing better.

I was one of those earlier on the season who were relatively impressed by their performances, and thought eventually the results would start to turn to match performances.

I did caveat that though by saying the good performances in the big game early season (Liverpool, City, Arsenal) were mostly at home, bar the Spurs game which was just a freak game, and I’d like to see them away.

Since then they’ve took a beating at St James Park, a beating at Old Trafford in terms of the performance, a beating at Anfield, and still got the likes of Emirates, Villa Park and the Etihad to go.

It’s not looking great for them, so I don’t really know where they go from here. All in on Osimhen I suppose but I’m not sure the introduction of him and Nkunku will necessarily solve their problems.

he's finished at this level, isn't he? Results aside, I don't see any imprint on the team showing what he's trying to do. any Joe could be managing them with similar results.

He could also be a limited manager outside a good set up, he'd probably have fared no better or worse than ten Hag had he come here.

Yeah after a disappointing (Relative to expectations and style) stint at PSG and this shitshow at Chelsea, that’s him done at the very top level I think

Was he ever really at the level of a title contending manager? I think an argument can be made to suggest he wasn't.

I think he's young enough to bounce back, he might need to do what Ancelotti did and go down a level to re-establish himself. His best spells came when he was punching above his weight but perhaps he can't impose himself on superstars

He doesn't get them snapped into it straight away. Took time at both Southampton and Spurs to set in, and it wasn't as big a mess there as it is at Chelsea.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Better teams than us will get pumped by Liverpool at Anfield this season.

I'm still on the fence with Poch. If Sanchez comes straight back in goal I might go full Poch Out though.

Yeah I’m certainly not ruling him out permanently at this stage in his career, but I do think he needs another Southampton/Spurs like stint to re-find what he’s about, and maybe based on that he might find something new that can help with another crack at a top club, but on his current trajectory I don’t think he has it in him right now for that level.

I’m not Poch Out yet but I actually don’t care what happens to him. I’m tired. Sack him. Don’t sack him. Spend another billion. Or don’t. I do not care. Im just going to throw out all expectations. Watch each game in isolation and get on with my life.

Doubt it, Potter didn't have the mentality.

He however was incredibly unlucky with the cup draws. Only in charge for six months and you draw Man. City away on both occasions.

The only time in league cup this season you will have been out of London was the Boro second leg. Even in the FA cup if you'd just beaten us first time you'd be on a run of three home cup draws.

That's what can usually keep a struggling Chelsea manager afloat, generous home cup draws year in year out.

Wonder how long before the Chelsea crowd turn on Boehly as spending all that money to potentially finish bottom half two years running is very poor indeed.

He's certainly not the level of manager that some people seem to think he is.

He's more on a par with the likes of David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers than Klopp or Guardiola.

At the age of 51 his Managerial CV reads Two trophies in France with PSG and a league cup and Champions League runner up with Spurs.

It will be interesting to see how much time he gets at Chelsea. No Champions League football for them again next season is going to start to hurt too.

Don't think we have enough evidence to state that with such certainty yet.
His press conferences were always a bit underwhelming so I think he realised the stark difference between managing Brighton and Chelsea and couldn't quite step up to it.

Spurs job would've been a much better fit for Potter and it's possible he might've made a similar impact to Ange but he's lost that chance.

Seems to be bidding his time so interested where he returns.

The issue is that his last good season was 6 or 7 years ago. It's more likely that we overrated his abilities.

The squad is a bunch of raw kids (who we largely massively overpaid for...), with Sterling as the highest earner and in a supposed dressing room leader role. Silva is pushing 40. Our more experienced attackers, like Nkunku have barely played and lots of other injuries. Yet people wonder why we're shite?

I don't blame Poch, or Potter last year. This shambles is all on our ownership.

When he does turn up, we know the script already. He’ll blame the owners, the players, injuries etc.
Oh no doubt. You’ll get a good result against one of the big boys and he’ll be straight back singing his praises as if the rest of the season never happened. Banging on about xG and underlying stats.

I’ve seen Chelsea fans complain about how the midfield is set up, too much distance between Caicedo and Enzo, Gallagher pushing up as high as possible, making it harder to advance the ball and easier to counter against. Is this a fair criticism? It’s the same issue we have with Ten Hag at the moment.

He seems to think it’s a long term project that needs time…. He might well be right but the owners haven’t spent a billion in 12 months for future planning they want instance success

Potter was also sold a long term project, look how it turned out for him. They don’t exist in this day and age. You win games you get time, you don’t then you’re out the door before long, simple as that.

They'll do better with Nkunku and Chuk back. Badly need those two to stay fit.
Honestly the biggest what if about this season is what we'd have looked like had Nkunku been fit the whole season, even if everything else remained the same. He was the marquee addition to the team. He was supposed to be the centrepiece of the attack and he's played less than 200 mins this season.

If they signed a striker they would be fine. They have no end-product. You can see how much of an impact Nkunku makes when he comes on, and he's not even entirely fit.

Wouldn't shock me if you have a relatively strong end to the season.

I want to believe but any optimism I had about this season was zapped out of me a long time ago.

Yep, very much so.

To me this problem seems to be less about the individual quality and/or compatibility of the players and more about the coaching and tactical aspect of the game. It makes me wonder exactly what kind of training sessions Poch is having because 6 months in our midfield looks like they've never played a game of football together in their entire fecking lives. While it's true they haven't yet played that much together and expecting them to be fully on the same wave length is a big ask, things definitely shouldn't be this bad.

On paper I would think a midfield of Enzo, Caicedo and Gallagher should complement each other quite well. Enzo is good with the ball and can spread passes forward and out wide while Gallagher and Caicedo are both highly energetic players who should be well equipped for the pressing, tackling and interception side of the midfield game. The likes of Sterling and Palmer could play out wide but occasionally tuck in to the middle to receive passes from deeper in midfield to move the ball forward and/or create overlapping situations with the full-backs on their side.

As it is now, especially Gallagher but often Enzo as well get pushed too high up on the pitch and Caicedo is left isolated in the middle all by himself which makes it very easy for opponents to play around him with 2-3 players passing the ball between them. And when Caicedo gets the ball the other midfielders are quite often simply too far from him to receive a pass, which just forces him to play it safely back to the defenders and round and round we go. The lack of a cohesive midfield unit is also what makes our defenders look much worse than they should be, because when the midfield gets passed so easily the defenders are always left on the back foot and racing against attackers in unfavourable situations.

Like I said before he was even hired I've never rated Poch as a manager but have been very much willing to give him a fair chance and been trying to be understanding of the injury issues and general lack of experience in the team which haven't made his job any easier, but when he doesn't even get the basics right it's very hard to be supporting of him. Like many others I'm not fully 'Poch out' yet but we're getting close. For me, I would say he needs a very strong finish to the season to survive.
