How much do you think Everton will charge for him (considering their situation)?

Is there any potential competition from other clubs in the league that you think will be going for him?

What many underestimate is that the squad is not static. Its a living organism were players grow old, they pick injuries, they lose motivation and form or they want out. Now let's have a look at United. We need a RB because AWB is not suitable for a high press, Shaw is injury prone while Malacia had vanished in the treatment room. At CB, Varane and Maguire will probably leave (Varane is old, Maguire is on silly salaries and is unsuited for high press). That's 3 signings in defense alone. In midfield we'll probably need to replace Casemiro and Eriksen and we need someone in RW. That's another 2-3 players. Then we need another striker of course. That means 7 players. We're excluding players who might want out, that Martinez will return to his former best and there's no rotten apples among the top players we would like them to stay (ex Onana, Rashford, Bruno, Martinez etc)

4 signings are good enough when in normal conditions ie when you're squad is competitive and you lack the cherry on the cake. For example the signings of Yorke, Blomqvist and Stam were enough to take the EPL winners to treble winners. Its not suited for a rebuild.
I agree with your general view but I have one small issue. Varane isn't old and he is younger than Maguire.

There might be something in this, if you'd come to me in 2006 and said you had a wonderkid called Lionel I'd have told you to do one.

Although knowing us the club will just buy a load of Nigels and Chardonnays.

I quite like Claudio, Luis and Simon-e at the moment...
Claudio Bravo, Luis Enrique & Simone Davies it is then. Interesting choices.

I wonder if we still have the number for our crack team of Hererra poaching Spanish lawyers?

Ole started his managerial career with us (as interim) with a swashbuckling style of football only to revert to Mourinho ball as soon as clubs started adapting to it and exploiting the glaring weaknesses this squad has (which tbf wasn't built for a high line/high press football). During his first summer as a full time manager he doubled down on Mourinho ball by signing Maguire, AWB and Dan James who were literally made for playing the quick counter attacking football, Mourinho teams were designed for. United were struggling big time at that point but Bruno's signing in January lifted us and he carried Ole for two seasons. The summer after he faced an underwhelming summer season with Diallo/Pellistri (whom he rarely played), VDB (who he didn't wanted) and Cavani. That created the perfect counter attacking side that fully relied on the quick runs of Rashy + Greenwood and the sharpness of Bruno and Cavani. Towards the end of the season it became evident that the good old counter attacking football couldn't take us to the next level. More and more opponents learnt our game and were just happy to sit back and get a point against us. Thus Ole tried to change the game with Sancho (we were incredibly reliant on the left side as Greenwood was basically a striker playing as a winger and AWB produced next to nothing), Varane (whose pace and experience was supposed to allow the defense to play with a higher line) and of course Ronaldo who was considered as a top goal poacher. It was then that the entire team collapsed. Maguire and AWB struggled in a high line, we suddenly learnt that our team didn't had the legs (or the will) to run up and down the pitch. Rangnick doubled down on that theory as he clearly stated that this team was uncapable to play his gegenpressing and then ETH came and went on spending big on Martinez and Malacia.
I think you have this misconception in your head that pace is all you need in order to be able to play in a high-line defense, but if you don't have it, it's a no go.

The situation they are in means that they'd have to seriously consider an offer of £40/50 million.

Having a great season and looking really solid. I think he will go for more than 50 million pounds if it's to an English team. Can see clubs abroad like Madrid interested, too.

Another problem will come when, I expect, he goes to the Euros in the summer with England. Once you become and England international it raises your profile. And he’s an obvious choice in a position England are light in, he’s basically next in line.

Not a chance with Everton’s situation. If he wants to come to us and nobody else then a Everton really can’t turn down a reasonable bid. It isn’t a cattle mart, he’ll go where he wants to

If they dont get relegated, then upwards in the £80m - £100m range.

If they do get relegated then maybe £50m - £65m.

I like him. He is what Maguire was supposed to be ie a modern CB who also have the physical characteristics to play in the EPL

Is he a Geordie? Heard his post match interview and seemed very level headed with this weird Geordie/scouse hybrid accent.

But they potentially need to raise funds quick? And you would think LFC and City (Ake, Gvardiol, Stones, Dias, Akanji) is no-go?

Probably Man Utd or Arsenal.

I think if we stay up we will keep Branthwaite for one more season and sell Onana.

Would it not make far more sense the other way round due to FFP?
Oh yeah but I just think that in terms of players wanting to stay, it's more likely Jarrad would give us another year than Onana.

Ah ok, fair enough. I hope you keep both to be honest. I like what Dyche has started to build.

Me too of course but I think it's unlikely. Will probably be another summer where we need to sell one or two of our higher asset players to balance books. Even more so if the worst happens...:nervous:

from what I've seen of him, doesn't inspire confidence.
He looks clumsy and a bit awkward.

not sure he'd bring us anything different than what we've had with Maguire from the looks of him

i want a good size cb at 6'2, 6'3 but with some fecking pace, a bit of a nasty attitude, decent footy skills and can use his left foot

Well he's taller and quicker than Maguire and he's both footed.

both are right at 6'4, 6'5.....quicker than Maguire, is that really a complement?

two footed is certainly important as i do see he plays as the LCB for Everton

I mean your post started out saying you weren't sure if he'd bring anything different than Maguire and then spoke about multiple attributes...and he is taller, he is quicker and he's so good with either foot that coaches debate about which is his dominant (right or left). Personally I also think he's capable of stepping up his ball-playing too. Not to a John Stones extente but enough that he can fit into the top modern sides.

that's the most important thing right there simply because Varane, Maguire and Lindelof struggle plahing on the left side because they just can't or won't use their left foot to play from the back unless under pressure and that results in them just hoofing the ball long

tbf....can't really make a legit judgement on the lad as i've only seen Everton a couple of times this season other than when they played United

Guess we will see what sort of impact and impression he's made with Southgate and a possible England call up

I personally think we need two CBs this summer but on potential ability I’d rather go for Scalvini or Diomande over Branthwaite along with Todibo as the second CB.

But if Scalvini or Diomande are looking too expensive then I’m not guna be disappointed with Branthwaite as he certainly has some appealing attributes and he’s Homegrown.

Another LCB which I like that hasn’t been mentioned much is Medina at Lens in France who looks like a Martinez regen (great on the ball, aggressive, not the tallest) but with an ability to fill in at LB which could be useful. He would solve this issue of losing our ability to build up from the back when Martinez is out at potentially half the price.

If they get relegated - which I hope they dont as they dont deserve it - you can probably go down to £30 million

Ideally you'd want someone who is tall, good on the ball and very quick to complement Martinez as part our first choice centre backs. I haven't seen much of this guy but if he has those abilities then why not?

How good is he on the ball? one injury to Martinez and United are severely lacking in CB's that are comfortable playing out, Varane will be a year older and the other 2 have always average at everything defensively.

The amount of teams interested & I suspect there will quite a few will determine the final price.

Yeah we simply have to bring in a CB who is comfortable playing out. The drop off when Licha is missing is too big across a full season
