He's doing a poor job, the only excuse you could give him is this is his first season with an unsettled young squad and the team finished midtable last season, not sure what eth excuse is for only being one place above him though

They still have a higher goal difference to us and somehow scored more even considering their incredibly shit striking options. If you think he’s doing a poor job, you’ll have no excuse for Ten Hag.

I’ve seen Chelsea fans complain about how the midfield is set up, too much distance between Caicedo and Enzo, Gallagher pushing up as high as possible, making it harder to advance the ball and easier to counter against. Is this a fair criticism? It’s the same issue we have with Ten Hag at the moment.
Gallagher has played more like a second striker for much of the season but hasn't scored a goal. The midfield is being built around his strengths, which is patently absurd.

There's plenty of talent in our midfield but it's being shoehorned around Gallagher, which honestly just boggles the mind. Palmer is the one who should have the free role Gallagher currently plays.

Sounds like the problem we’ve had with McTominay, only he’s scored a few which has encouraged Ten Hag to stick with it. Very painful.

Yep, very much so.

To me this problem seems to be less about the individual quality and/or compatibility of the players and more about the coaching and tactical aspect of the game. It makes me wonder exactly what kind of training sessions Poch is having because 6 months in our midfield looks like they've never played a game of football together in their entire fecking lives. While it's true they haven't yet played that much together and expecting them to be fully on the same wave length is a big ask, things definitely shouldn't be this bad.

On paper I would think a midfield of Enzo, Caicedo and Gallagher should complement each other quite well. Enzo is good with the ball and can spread passes forward and out wide while Gallagher and Caicedo are both highly energetic players who should be well equipped for the pressing, tackling and interception side of the midfield game. The likes of Sterling and Palmer could play out wide but occasionally tuck in to the middle to receive passes from deeper in midfield to move the ball forward and/or create overlapping situations with the full-backs on their side.

As it is now, especially Gallagher but often Enzo as well get pushed too high up on the pitch and Caicedo is left isolated in the middle all by himself which makes it very easy for opponents to play around him with 2-3 players passing the ball between them. And when Caicedo gets the ball the other midfielders are quite often simply too far from him to receive a pass, which just forces him to play it safely back to the defenders and round and round we go. The lack of a cohesive midfield unit is also what makes our defenders look much worse than they should be, because when the midfield gets passed so easily the defenders are always left on the back foot and racing against attackers in unfavourable situations.

Like I said before he was even hired I've never rated Poch as a manager but have been very much willing to give him a fair chance and been trying to be understanding of the injury issues and general lack of experience in the team which haven't made his job any easier, but when he doesn't even get the basics right it's very hard to be supporting of him. Like many others I'm not fully 'Poch out' yet but we're getting close. For me, I would say he needs a very strong finish to the season to survive.
Cheers for the info.

It's safe to say Chelsea will go anywhere with him in charge. Some players are looking even worse than a couple of months ago. If their game against the Scousers ended in a 6+ goals defeat, it would be fair looking at how many goals Liverpool missed.
Chelsea defensive positioning was poor, the build-up stages are a bit blurry and disconnected and I see more man marking than zone pressing which is concerning.

I don't think so, the players bought aren't good enough. That is the problem.

Guess we'll find out if a new coach comes in and makes them look like the world beaters they should be from the money paid...

I'm quite surprised at how bad his time at Chelsea has been. I was expecting them to be abit up and down regarding the results, I guess we've had that, but they would at least show some semblance of positivity and a idea of Poch's style coming into effect. But they've just been absolutely awful.
Considering the money put into the squad , what we're seeing on the pitch is laughably a mess.

I'd love to know what the owners actual expectations are. You sign a load of kids, basically assembling a whole new team but one that won't be ready for years. They currently sit 10th after finishing 12th the season before... what's the actual aim for this season?

What sort of jobs would Poch be looking at after this? Surely his time hopping around bigger jobs must be coming to an end.

Isn't McTominay your leading goalscorer in the Premier League?

It never fails to amaze me that a player such as McTominay who gives everything he has, gets constant stick from the 'so called Man Utd faithful".

He’s got a great attitude and personality, good in the air and can score a goal, but the team has suffered more often than not from having him in our midfield over the last 5 years, this season included despite his goal count. It’s a sacrifice playing him as a 8/10, a trade off between control in midfield or having a Fellaini like presence in the box, relating back to my comparison with Gallagher.

Not a top manager. Never was. Has no business managing big clubs, and I'm very glad we didn't end up with him. With all due respect, the likes of Fulham, Palace, and Brentford are where he should be looking at.

If another so-called big manager fails at Chelsea, we might need to blame the club

If you had signed a reliable out and out centre forward then you'd be able to play Palmer in the free role. Instead you spent a load of money stockpiling attacking midfielders and getting Nicolas Jackson on the cheap. From the outside looking in, the transfer strangely seemed nonsensical before a ball had been kicked this season.

Do any Chelsea fans here think they should have stuck with Potter? His record isn’t looking as bad now - maybe he could have formed more of a style than Poch has managed so far?

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

Surely he won’t survive that result? Wolves not even offering them a reach around.

Only watched the second half but they looked like an under 12s team.

Full of rash challenges and little positional sense, Cunha for Wolves has taken the pee out of them big time.

Edit: Thiago Silva been a great defender but he's looked 39 years old this half, surely Chelsea just got to go with the younger CBs now rest of the season and hope a partnership starts to click?
