Very good thread about the state of DOJ right now. I'm sure Merrick Garland is not the only one at fault, but the buck stops with him when it comes to justice matters.

It seems like a lot of R from the house is leaving this year. I bet the in-fighting was too much for some of them. The concerning thing is that this could potentially pave the way for more extreme or MAGA Rs to fill those vacancies in the new Congress with Trump being on the ballot (potentially).

Karma for him constantly accusing others of the same thing, and unlike when he does it, this time there is evidence. feck Gaetz! Absolute swamp monster.

Which is exactly why they pack courts or deemed them illegitimate. They can never "just lose" now. Trump has hyper-charged and normalised the idea that if you lose in court, you act like it didn't happen and then start claiming "the rigged courts are politically against me". Which is then how you open the door to "the entire system needs to be overthrown and my ideas are right"

I believe the Ethics committee is made up of equal numbers of Dems & Repubs for no partisanship.
I mean, 2/3 have to vote for it. So, there is no much chance he will get kicked out any time soon.

But then again, this guy must be one of the most hated members among themselves of that party in that chamber currently.

2/3rd is the whole house not the committee, if it gets put on the floor I can see him getting booted but the floor vote likely doesn't happen because of the tiny majority they have

Sure, let me clarify my confusion regarding this matter. Is the committee solely responsible for expelling him, and if so, do they tally votes within that committee? If they do, what is the required threshold for expulsion?

If the issue is brought to the floor, a two-thirds majority of the house would need to vote for his expulsion. In such a scenario, I doubt Republicans would support it or vote to expel him because it would further diminish their majority. Without any Republican votes (let's assume), he wouldn't be able to be expelled. Or am I mistaken in my understanding?

No the committee investigates and 'recommends' but the on expulsion assuming the speaker allows a floor vote the whole house would vote, not all Republicans are MAGA and with all Democrats there might be enough, some of them are trying to rertain seats in Democrat states and giving Gaetz the booy might be enough to win their seats, he can't be removed if all Republicans vote to expel, they did with Santos so who knows

Was a good little run for Biden and the democrats in terms of unions, but probably all about to be shot down now.

Musk and Dr. Evil really couldn't handle their profits going down ever so slightly, as the spoiled scumbags that they are, and so, will make everyone suffer for it.

Almost all in the house are MAGA now (at least have to pretend now), with Trump controlling them from behind (the border and foreign aid bills, etc.). A few others who are not are extremely conservative, fecked up in their own way, and not exactly better, and would not reduce their majority at this point for now.

Santo was in a way worse situation, and he probably does not exactly carry the Republican 'values' with some of the stuff that he did. And he was also a newcomer. Although Gaetz may be hated by many, he is different from Santo, and they won't be expelling this guy for now.
