They haven't been exposed to his (unfiltered) propaganda to the same extent
Living in the Philippines I am watching middle US news. Thus, I'm exposed to Trump especially during the covid lockdowns I got overdose.
When I only see the clown my blood pressure goes up.
So I would I assume his approval ratings would be rather lower, if more Germans were exposed to his gibberish. (At least I hope so).

still many who wish for a "German Trump".
Never heard somebody wanted a German Trump. His bully politics wouldn't work with out the economic and military power of the US anyway.
Some Germans might want a strong man as leader after 16 years of Mutti, and even wanted a German Putin (until the war at least) but never a Trump. In 2020 Putin war way more popular in Germany than Trump.

That being said, education, media and political system in the US definitely sucks.
Absolutely. Especially the political system and election procedure need an urgent overhaul. Unfortunately it will never happen as GOP would without a chance of winning the election.

Is he? I dislike City but have to admit they are the best team around.
Trump is nowhere near the best politician, rather the opposite.
Some people say he is. Yesterday a guy, big and strong, walked up to me in a store, tears in his eyes, and said "Wi_Red, Trump is so amazing, please vote for him!".

Fecking membership tiers? NATO basically, premium and platinum? Only Platinum tier getting defended from Russia? Basic gets you what, a pat on the back and sponsored UN condemnation?

Good read. Now that we know what kind of scumbag Vince McMahon is, it is not difficult to see the direct parallels with Trump.

How Vince McMahon built an empire on fakery and taught Donald Trump to control a crowd

Abraham Josephine Riesman said:
It’s not just political kayfabe. There’s kayfabe, and then there’s what Vince really pioneered, which is neokayfabe, a term I made up.

After Vince made it a part of public record that wrestling was fake, that led to sort of the end of the illusion that wrestling was a legitimate, unplanned competition in the sporting realm.

Neokayfabe is when you operate not on the assumption of telling the audience, “Hey, everything you’re about to see is real.” You start by giving them the assumption, “Hey, everything you’re about to see is fake — except the parts that you think are real.”

It’s Trumpism. You’re left to kind of choose your own reality. So whether you are just taking it in and not trying to sort out what’s real, or whether you’re obsessively trying to sort it into true and false, you’re paying attention, and that’s all that matters.

Judge denies motion to dismiss Trump's New York hush money case, says trial can go forward

The judge in former President Trump's criminal hush money case in New York City says Trump's trial will proceed on March 25 as planned, but the defense wants to delay that date.

In the case's final hearing before the trial gets underway, Judge Juan Merchan began the proceedings Thursday by denying Trump’s motion to dismiss the case, saying the trial would begin March 25 with jury selection.

I listened to some of the hearing over lunch. The use of "affair" seems pretty salacious considering the facts. Apparently, the guy's wife cheated on him in 2015 and they had the marriage declared irrevocably broken. He stayed in the house so his kids would have both parents. Filed for divorce right after the youngest went off to college.

Now, none of that takes away from the optics, nor on the potential for financial stuff if any of that is true (didn't sound like it), but people will focus mostly on the sex stuff which is not really anything at all. As long as she did not hire him because they were dating, and as long as there were no financial irregularities then this is a big nothing burger.

It doesn't matter if it is a big nothing burger. They will spin it in their favour to delay it and if possible pressure her to transferred to a more favourable and much les familiar person. And if they don't succeed, the process is already tainted for the public opinion. And that is all it takes nowadays unfortunately

Willis removed her objection and is taking the stand. She looks pissed off. This should be fun.

DA Willis seems to be very forgetful. Even stuff from last year she keeps saying she cannot recollect and is unsure. Are District Attorneys not supposed to be people who are really on the ball and have laser sharp memories?

She is simply using defendant tactics.

My theory on Trump’s legal troubles is that they’re terrified to touch him while he’s a candidate.

If he wins, it all goes away. He makes sure of that.

If he loses, he has zero political capital, he will never run again and Republicans will let him go down because they can make a martyr out of him.

Even if it was an affair SO WHAT? Was it silly to bring him on given the spotlight and profile of the case? Yes sure. But, what is actually wrong or disqualifying here? Unless they can show that the money issue was somehow illegal. Who paid for the couples trips or misuse of funds. Even that would just be maybe a disqualifier of her politically or in the Da office etc. And warrant maybe her off the case on a technicality.

But if they have been screwing under the tables in hotels, empty courtrooms. SO WHAT?! That has nothing to do with the case being compromised. Again Husband and wife law firms. Sibling law firms, what is the difference? Its just salacious fodder for the right wing shows so far.

Has she been that combative during her testimony?
Very.

I was watching on a live stream hosted by French-speaking and Las Vegas-based journalist/writer William Reymond. Fani Willis was very combattive at stamping her version against her accusers and their lies.

Yet they literally worship a serial cheat. Get out of here.
Now let's switchover to the case of our lord and savior Donald Trump, today in a court while he's accused of paying off a porn star using campaign funds while cheating on his pregnant wife.

What's the big deal with the DA Willis? If she did something wrong, just replace her with another attorney so the case against Trump can proceed.

I read here that she had been working 4 years in depth about the case and would be difficult to get someone getting to know the specifics and specially put him/her up to speed fast enough before the elections

It's already a joke that this took 4 years! It should have been in court after 1 or latest 2 years.
Collecting evidence and making a case might take long but there should be a handover procedure in place. This shouldn't take long.
Actually it should already happen since these allegations against Willis popped up first.

I see Kushner has called Mohammed bin Salman “a visionairy leader” in an interview with Axios.

Wonder why.

The case of Trump has nothing to do with it. It can't be that he wins because a DA is disqualified.
Otherwise the American justice system would be an utter joke.
True that. But the system has to do its thing. Hopefully it’ll still be the right thing or the country is fecked.

This entire description sums up the failure that is the US justice system.

In comparison, the South Korean prosecution only needed 18 months to investigate, to build a case, to arrest many officials, to get then-president Park Geun-hye impeached, to get her indicted right after her removal from office, to get her into pre-trial detention as soon as she left office, to find her found guilty on 16 out of 18 charges, and then to get her convicted to a long prison sentence. That is not saying about the 14 other people, many of them being high-ranking officials, sentenced for their involvement in that same 2016 political scandal.

The difference in votes between Biden and Trump was 4.45% of the total vote. The difference in votes between Clinton and Trump was 2.1% of the total vote. That is a 2.35% swing. Electorally it is very meaningful because Biden won a bunch of states that Clinton lost and therefore won the election, but in absolute terms it was not a massive repudiation of Trump by any stretch of the imagination.

Trump has never been as popular as his cultists would like him to be. But the inverse is also not true: he's just not a widely unacceptable figure.
I think you’re underestimating how hard it is to defeat an incumbent. Carter, Bush 1, Trump. Biden received about 7 million more votes than Trump,
81,281,888 votes to
74,223,251 votes,
despite Republicans doing election shenanigans like in Ohio and Florida where they closed all but one polling place in a large precinct, making it illegal to drive people to polls, illegal to give water to people waiting in the sun 8 hours to vote, etc. And now that we’ve seen proof Trump that Trump personally called governors and election officials to make up votes and so on. It was a new record total of votes. It was a repudiation.

Not sure whether this belongs here. In Germany is all over the news. The ex FBI informant allegedly lied about Hunter Biden taking money.
The US is becoming more and more a banana republic.

Hope it turns out the informant was paid by the Trump camp to discredit the Biden's. That won't bother the Trump's base but definitively will have a major impact on independent and swing voters.
