Somewhat unbelievably, it looks like the SC are taken Trump's immunity claim seriously. I think I give up.

Included the highlight of Justice Thomas musing about why, after Operation Mongoose, JFK didn't face prosecution when out of office. Real tough one that.
One way or another he always scurries away. If the SC gives Trump total immunity as POTUS, Biden knows what to do. Because if Trump is the next POTUS with a SC resolution saying that he is immune, he can do whatever he wants without repercussions.

I've been listening to some of the SC arguments. It truly is baffling those are supposed to be the country's leading experts and yet with everything they say - especially the likes of Thomas and Alito - you can always tell exactly by who their were bought by and paid for. Trias politica has never been more dead.

I have seen a lot of dumb takes in my life, but I would never have pinned that on a supreme court justice of any self-respecting country ever.

Clarence, bitch, are you for real?

No amount of stupidity is beyond Clarence Thomas who is one of the worst SC justices of all time. I'd say the worst but Dred Scott and that era were also atrocious.

I was about to say that this is why you need a mandatory retirement age for supreme court justices, but then I saw that he's "only" 75 years old. Then again, that's 5 years older than the mandatory retirement age for supreme court justices here in Norway.

"I don't care about some socialist little European country smaller than a city, this is America" - many countrymen when needing an excuse to be "different".

I can see that kind of talk.

Interestingly, Japan, which is considered in a number of ways as a more conservative society than America, also has age 70 as the mandatory retirement age for their own supreme court justices. Even though Canada has the mandatory retirement age at age 75, I honestly believe that 70 is about perfect for a mandatory retirement age for any form of public service and should be a norm in a near future in the US.

The elephant in the room is that nobody has mentioned SC justices. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they know they'd be in the firing line and will craft an opinion that would insulate them from such shenanigans.

Clarence Thomas is obviously corrupt and venal, but Alito could actually be worse since he's an ideologue who seems to often look for ways to legitimize Trump's narrative during arguments and decisions.

Back to the matters related to the trial though.

:lol: :annoyed::nervous:

I wonder if someone can order one of those plexiglass boxes for defendants from Russia. Please let him smell his own gas alone rather than making others suffer in that courtroom.
Now I understand all his lawyers quit despite being paid fortunes; it‘s not worth it.

Hamburgers and Diet Coke every day, they say.:houllier:

A major change of diet is also a major argument for sending Trump behind bars during the whole trial. I know I often said he should be given oatmeal porridge before, but I think that should be reconsidered because most grains will only increase flatulence. Chinese Congee (or white rice porridge) would be perfect for him as rice is the only type of grain that doesn't cause gas.

But think of how annoying it could be once Presidents retire! Alito really getting at the crux of it.

I don't get this debating of what is the law. Shouldn't the supreme court know?
When the law is not specfic and is too ambiguous, is open to interpretation...also corrupt interpretation by judges posted by Trump. It is impossible to create laws for every single specific case that had happened or we think can happen. That is why sometimes semantics and open interpretation can bring problems like that

If they say Trump is immune that would mean Biden is immune too. How would that work out for them?

If he gets back in, he's going to arrest anyone that is open to impeachment and your country is done. This guy is going to take the country and it's not coming back. All the people that pushed back last time are OUT. There is no "inner circle" of cool heads. When someone comes to him and says we should "go into certain states and declare marshal law" he going to fecking do it. When he asks about actually shooting and killing ANY protesters, he'll get the green ligt. And all certain people care about is "lol biden senile".

fecking ideological purity bullshit. If the champagne socialists want to wank over the "finally fighting the real fascists", enjoy your "deportation camps".

fecking hell. I'm so angry that everyone can see this coming and all the left wants to do is gawk like it's something Adam curtis would "do a series about".

That's what the DA asked for, right?
To the best of my knowledge, the DA wouldn't have any say in it. The judge is constrained with fines or confinement and the fines are apparently capped at 1k per incident. So in the absence of sending him to jail, he can only fine him. There is apparently another option of home confinement with an ankle bracelet, so he may look at that if Trump keeps it up.

He will be fundraising off this immediately. Pay my fines free speech violation, witch hunt. When in reality any regular joe who isn't orange would have long been tossed in jail for these threats against court staff, judges families, witness intimidation

Gorsuch and Kavanaugh won't vote to declare the president the king, right? Alito and Clarence would vote anything that helps Republicans, and no idea about ACB.

The unfortunate part of that (for him) is his base is pretty tapped out financially.

I doubt ACB would vote like the latter 2, but none of them actually want to make a decision, they'll punt it back to the lower courts which will just delay it, if Trump gets reelected then nothing would happen for at least 4 years, if ever, if Biden wins then it'll be back there again
