Completely showed up Bruno today. A nice reminder that it is possible to be creative but not give possession away every other pass.

This is why press resistant players are vital.

So that, when the team in general is having a mare, you have players who can still excel. Signing players who only thrive when the team they're playing for is playing well has to be a thing of the past. Prioritise their general play.

Was it Neville who said he was the only player that would get in the City team earlier on this season and got absolutely battered on here for it?

Well he was absolutely spot on. The kid is class.

He is the best player on the team. Truly incredible. Would not surprise me if there was one or two other youngsters better than most of our senior squad. If they are good enough, they are old enough.

Class. Don’t blame him if he wants to leave and play with players who don’t shit the bed the ball at their feet.
Seen a few mentions of 'don't blame him if he wants to leave?' Does he want to? Am I missing something?

Embarrasses his senior midfield partners every week. Sensational player.

He is so much more effective as a DM. For all of Lutons attempts on goal, the barely had a sniff through the middle once Mainoo was moved to DM. First half it was like a knife through butter.

He’s extremely good. My real worry is that we will whittle away his interest in playing a short pass game with these tactics and the surrounding cast. He’s at a young impressionable age — the heroballers around him don’t value ball retention.

If the rest of our team had half the intelligence and technical ability of Mainoo, we would be challenging for the title. He’s just in total control all the time. Very impressive.

He's quick. Not for a winger or a fullback but for a central midfielder.
For a player of his calibre, at times he should have been closer to the action in final third. But you don't see him much there, and probably rightly so because I don't think he has a pace to track back quickly and we need him in center midfield to bring the ball out of danger. So, you see him hanging around behind a lot more times than he should be.

He's 18 but with a brain of a 30 years old player. Shame about his lack of pace but can't complain about anything else.

We need more players like him in the team to be able to exert more control in the game.

Currently holding 90% of the midfield by himself, need at least one of Casemiro/Bruno to up their game significantly. Imagine having Fred or McT in his role today, we would have 30% possession.

Doesn't require pace if has the correct set up around him. He's class, clearly. Only one that doesn't look scared when he receives the ball under any sort of pressure.

He probably really is. We need to find a setup where he is on the ball more, everything he does is class.

I wonder what he thinks when he watches Casemiro bumbling all over the place and Bruno treating the ball like it’s a live grenade. Must be the surrealist thing for him, given they are supposed to be mentoring him and being the sage and composed veterans he is supposed to take his lead from.

I disagree completely. Thats just based on movement, being conservative and patient. He clearly isnt being asked to be McTominay and get into the box any time we break forward

And by not doing that we're far more solid defensively

Very good performance. Best midfielder on the pitch today, by far.

He's class on the ball. Vital to get a partner that complements him in the summer. Needs to be an athlete, but sound on the ball.

Absolutely ridiculous that he is our most composed player in possession. So good in tight spaces.

Not too bothered that he's not the quickest player because if you can get the right player beside him it will be fine.

Oh and that 'yellow card' tackle was great- fecking ref

He is a very good player with intelligence and technical ability but I worry that his game may become worse with the scared little babies we have around him.

WE had more composure with him back in midfield. We would be twice the team if we had a similar option as a partner in midfield

So good. Only Højlund had a better game, but not much between them.
Getting the spine of the team sorted now, just need Martinez back, and a new keeper, and we'll be there.
The rest of the team will need a bit of sorting.

I don't think it's his top speed that's an issue it's the acceleration, he can look a bit flat footed at times over those first 5 yards but they say the first few yards are in your head so as he gains experience and a bit more physical maturity hopefully it'll be enough to cover that weakness and it won't really be an issue, he's a joy to watch on the ball and it's going to be fun watching him grow.

What a fantastic player. His composure on the ball puts his teammates to utter shame every single week.

This boy puts Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes to shame. Two senior pros who shit themselves any time they receive the ball under pressure and make consistently poor decisions. Mainoo's composure is stark by comparison, I'm really grateful we have him.
