Newcastle wanted him all of last summer. Chelsea rejected a couple of their advances. Hall knew of their interest but yet still signed a 7 year deal and accepted a loan deal to Palace. It's obvious to me Chelsea changed their minds and decided they needed to cash in on him, probably because moves for Chalobah (linked with Bayern and Inter) failed to materialise. Keep in mind the owners also accepted a £30m bid from Burnley for Maatsen but Maatsen refused to leave.
They accepted Maatsen bid because of his contract situation and him stalling on a new deal.

Can a loss be a win?
Getting to 6 finals is commendable. Not sure any other club has been to that many domestic finals in this period. So clearly we’re doing something right as a club to keep to getting to finals. Keep in mind we’ve also gone to the EL and CL finals during this period and won them both. To lose 6 consecutive domestic finals is devastating though. It’s embarrassing. It’s demoralising. To lose 3 straight to fecking Liverpool is, I legit couldn’t think of many worse scenarios.

That's not just a Chelsea thing in fairness although you're not wrong.
Nah it's pretty common for long-term injured players that a lot of hopes rely on - see Timber for Arse, Martinez for us, etc. But I find it slightly stranger for Nkunku in that he doesn't quite have the body of work to support these high hopes, at least yet.
He was player of the year and then top scorer in Germany in two consecutive seasons. That's something!

Yes it is something. He's sandwiched in as winner between Bellingham, Haaland and Lewandowski. I'm not saying he's as good as those, just that it's a reasonable indication that's he's a very good player.
