Negative; 6-0 in coming with Maguire to aid them with at least 3 goals, Varane to go off injured after 10mins, Onana Howler incoming, Casemiro red card, Lindëlof looking out of his depth.

Positive; Mainoo to play like prime Scholesy.

I don't expect nothing other than that off this game.

The depressing thing is, when the tables were turned ie we were the best team in Europe and City were nowhere, in derby games they were always were competitive and close games. But it appears that we get totally dominated now and only have a 'punchers chance' of catching them on the break and maybe pinching a chance to score!

When Ole was here it was not so bad.

I would play Bruno at false 9 and Rashford and Garnacho on the flanks. We don't get anything out of Rashford playing up front, and we're going to need that pace on the flanks to counter City because I think that's where they're vulnerable with their formation.

Having Bruno in the front 3 could allow us to pack the midfield with Case, Mainoo and McTominay. McTominay can be a forward threat without leaving us open in midfield.

The only way we're getting a result is through grit and luck. The LB situation is a worry.

True and they were even worse than we are atm, but still put off a fight, they had ambition at least without real talent, which we don't.

Should outPep Pep by playing 4 narrow CBs and packing the midfield, put Dalot in there in midfield for his forward running and legs to chase the ball.

    Onana

    Varane - Evans - Maguire - Lindelof

    Dalot - Casemiro - Mainoo
    Bruno
    Garnacho - Antony

We've beaten them loads of times while they've been miles better than us.

I actually like that but would replace Antony with Mctominay for more of a box threat on set pieces

    Lets go!

Edit: maybe Heaton instead of Rashford? New 3530 system.

This has to be the only way with current fit players and get Garnacho back down the right with Rashford down the left but both players need to be fluid - Rashford can only play down the middle when we play on the break and he's incapable of playing as a number 9 target man with his back to goal.
Bruno can have a free role and we will need McTominay getting into the box late for crosses.
    1-2 Utd !

Agreed whether bruno false 9 or Mctominay running around uo there that has to be the 6 midfield and fowards

What has angered me over the years is how inferior and scared we look v.s. them. In the years when we were the top dogs and they were utter shite the games were never like that, always fiery competitive games. I'm sick of the defeatist, cowardly, weak and insipid displays each and every time we face them.

Ok what about all the times we have beaten them though? I'm a bit confused here.

We also went about 20 games of smashing them every week in the mid 90s.

I genuinely think Pep would tell his players at half time not to rack up a rugby scoreline against us, out of respect. These derbies have become farcical as we rarely put up a fight even if we’ve got the lucky win on occasion.

We've beaten them but always feels like a "punchers chance" victory. We've not convincingly beaten them in years.

In terms of the mid 90s, I was born in 96 so can't remember!

No chance, City are falling behind Liverpool and Arsenal's GD. We've conceded 10 goals in the last 2 games we've played there. It's a perfect storm.

^ I would want us to pack out the midfield, McT being the furthest advanced.

Not a chance. They'll smash us as hard as they can. They may take off key players if they're out of sight at half time but no way pep tells them to go easy.

I worry that this could get ugly... without hojlund up top to keep their defence honest I fear it's going to be backs against the wall all game.

Nah it's definitely happened a few times the past few years where they've eased off, even at 2-0 leads and just made it a bit of a mockery.

Just as Halaand is getting back to his usual form we have to play them with no Martinez and no Shaw and with no decent goal scorer.
We are about to be fecked. I’ll be relieved if it’s only 3-0.

A few weeks back, I’d back us for a snatch and grab or even a draw.
With the loss of Martinez, Shaw, Hojlund along with Haaland finding his robot boots again - I’m as pessimistic as ever if a result at the Etihad.

I’ll be shocked if we score the way we’re playing at the moment.

This line-up gets hammered 6-0. Our best chance of lowering the score is to play a back 5 or back 6.

Not at all - we dont train in a back 5 or back 6 so theres probably a greater chance of our players not adapting positionally and getting fecked over.
We played a good game versus Liverpool and need to do the same again, pack out that midfield and put McTominay further up.

Because it was their big fixture of the season and also football was a lot different back then, you could probably tackle and put yourself about and make games a lot rougher/difficult for anyone. We don't seem up for most games these days.

Going into the game with our normal setup, tactics and personnel is never going to work.

I hope that ETH at least has some plan to combat City and not make it embarrassing.

Certainly not watching us play our awful brand of football against a team that won’t even have to get out of second gear to win comfortably.
