I didnt like the first one at all. But Part 2 was surprisingly good. It all felt a bit rushed at some points. Kinda like a 8/10 movie. I never read the books so I'm not sure if it's faithfull.

I think it was going to be, but then Villeneuve and the other writers figured that they really can't wrap things up without doing a film on Dune Messiah (the second book), and allowed themselves more open-endedness than originally intended.
Or maybe that was intended all along, and they just kinda pretended they needed two films to wrap things up. Either way, with all the hype and stellar reviews, it seems pretty likely that Villeneuve will get to do his part three.
(And I don't see it going beyond that. There are more than two books, but Dune Messiah wraps things up pretty nicely for the story up to that point.)

This was absolutely amazing. Dare I say one of the best movies in the last 3-4 years: simply a 10/10.
There were parts in the movie were I was genuinely getting goosebumps.
Chalamet is ridiculously talented, going from a good WIlly Wonka to this, is just mental.

For me it may be the best sci-fi film of all time and I know how crazy that sounds. I just loved watching it though.
To be fair, I also thought that the first one was ok but not amazing. However this film is on a different level for me.
I really liked both movies but feels like I didn't quite get certain elements. Need to read some explanations.
Yeah, Chalamet is a fantastic actor. And so diverse as well.

There are so many modern films that have drowned with this aspect, casting can't help it, it's solely on the director having the ability to story tell effectively. In recent memory you can see Nolan's struggles over the same issue with Tenet, when a director fails with narrative pacing it makes everything disjointed.
This film is one of the best within this category I'm struggling to think of any movie I've seen that has mastered the speed of the plot. This is a massive compliment to Denis Villeneuve and there was traces of his brilliance illustrated with the first Sicario the scene cuts are transitioned in all the right places.

The biggest compliment I can give is that it's what, 2 and a half hours? I'd have happily sat and watch 2 and half more.
Glad I saw it in the cinema. Could've been 3 or 4 films though!

Do someone need to see part 1 before seeing this ? Also I never really care for plot or characters. Is it worth seeing just for the visuals ?

My indifference probably largely boils down to the cast. I kinda rate Timothy, I think he's a OK actor ( Call me by your name is still his best performance) but I don't rate Zendaya particularly highly.

I've heard she's good in this, for what it's worth. I'm tossing up whether to re-read the last part of the book again before I go next week, might distract me too much.

Thanks. Yeah this is my worry. I’ll spend nearly 3 hours and come out thinking it was decent enough. Tbh I’ve mostly enjoyed Villeneuve other works but everything about new Dune series hasn’t really clicked with me.
She's top in this.
The only professional to give a wooden performance was Batista. Has the same stupid look on his face in literally every scene and all his dialogue is just shouting.
Walken also was pretty meh, but he always is.
I was just trying to think of other possibilities for the Emperor, then my brain struck David Lynch and now won't let go of it.

Just left the cinema, overall it's a really decent movie but I can't see how some give it a 10/10, it annoyed and disappointed a couple of times. 7.5/10 for me
I agree that the second half of the movie feels rushed, it all goes pretty quick and for me the final showdown battle was just infantile and naive, I get it that the emperor/Harkkonen got hit by surprise, but then again we are talking about the most powerful man in the galaxy, with unlimited money and apparently bringing all his army with him - wasn't it really too easy for the Fremen to overpower them?

I know Hans Zimmer is a genius and he will always be remembered as one, but perhaps it's time we have a chance to some new blood.

Just came out of cinema, it was fantastic. The scenography was pretty much perfect.
Enjoyed it but think the first one edged it in terms of impact.
Holy fecking shit. I’m gobsmacked. What a piece of cinema. Denis Villeneuve delivered once again. My eyes didn’t leave the screen once in 3 hours. Cinematography, sound design, world building, action. A masterpiece. The first film was great but this… this is sensational. Another level.
Excellent movie. Miles better than the first which was fine but nothing special for me.
Only complaint is the whole riding the worms... It's like fast and furious logic. How are these people getting off the worm? How are they getting a whole group of people and chairs and tents on the worms? The worm just parks up and waits for them or something? Bit ridiculous...

See this last night was a good film around a 7-8 out of 10 for me some of it didn't make sense as some say the whole everyone being up on the worms stuff and the fact you have races who have mastered technology enough to bring down a whole citadel from the sky but you attack them and they only have swords apart from that decent plot and better than the first,now we need a proper Warhammer film to be made dark and futuristic but Hollywood is not capable.

They explained the swords in the first film. Basically, their shields are so advanced that they will stop any fast projectile. So, the only way to penetrate them is with a slower weapon.
Watched part 1 again last night, having previously viewed it during the time of its release, on the likelihood I'll be viewing part 2 sometime this coming week.

Watched this yesterday - another really strong addition to Villeneuve's work, in my opinion. Not a perfect movie, but thoroughly entertaining and well-made.
I just love the world building in both this and the first one. The set design, costumes, weapons, vehicles, machines and language all feel otherworldly, but still believable and grounded in a way. It's fantastically well done. Of course, you need to suspend your disbelief with the worms, and there are some rules about the weaponry that are not fully explained, but that sort of stuff is to be expected from sci-fi.
Performances are generally strong with a few hiccups here and there. Javier Bardem and Rebecca Ferguson are the best of the bunch, in my opinion, but Chalamet is certainly also good in the lead. However, I'd say Zendaya is not a particularly strong actress. It's not catastrophic, but it does shine through in a few scenes. I also didn't like the Harkonnen's as much in this one. The Baron was extremely memorable in the first, but didn't have that same menacing presence here, and Feyd-Rautha seemed almost a bit cartoonish in his villainy. Perhaps I was a bit disappointed with the emperor. They cast such an iconic actor in Christopher Walken and it feels like they didn't really utilize him.
As for the plot it moves along in a nice pace, and it is generally understandable what happens and why. It is apparent that it is adapted from quite a complex work, so there isn't really enough time to flesh out the motivations of all the factions. We've got the Fremen (believers and non-believers), Harkonnens, Bene Gesserit, The Emperor, and the Landsraad of noble houses. Just a lot of moving pieces, but it is generally well-handled. For an almost 3 hour movie, there was only one time where I felt it's length, and that was around the scenes on Geidi Prime.
I'd give it a solid 8/10. Happy to see it is set up for another movie, and I saw Villeneuve comment on this as well. If this is another financial success, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Brilliant. The only downside was the annoying little bastards sat to my left. Constantly on his phone, talking to someone next to him, rustling packets of sweets and slurping pop bottles. Paid premier seats for that privilege as well.
Cinema etiquette is dead. Someone sat behind me was translating all the Fremen language lines to English to her friend. Super annoying.
Just got back and really enjoyed it. If part one felt like half a movie, this feels like two movies in one! They really went for it and most of the action scenes are phenomenal.
What I do find interesting though, even if it wasn't intended, is how it shows the difference between her and Paul by the end of the movie. She never feels like his equal but she feels completely like a surrogate in the final scenes. This is how it comes across in Dune Messiah as Paul develops into being less of a benevolent hero (no spoilers I think because this is hinted at throughout the movie). It should be good foreshadowing for those not familiar with the sequel if they make a follow-up.
Sad to say but I agree. Perhaps it's what the role called for but she too much pouting and comes across like an annoyed teenager. It doesn't give Chani as a character much depth. All the other actors do a fantastic job with their roles.

I feel like the film did miss a bit of explanation as to the Fremen's relationship with the worms. They can evidently control them so I just made a few assumptions. When the guy gives Paul that sand thumper he says "I tuned this myself", so I'm guessing its something to do with the thumpers how they communicate. Also the film made a point of showing two sort of vents underneath the worm's skin when the hooks lifted it up, which may be something to do with it. Probably all explained in the books, will get around to them one day.
It really is dead. My best cinema experience in the last few years was when my son and I went to see Mad Max in 3D and we were the only ones in there. As someone smarter than me once said ‘hell is other people’
Yeah, felt like she brought her spiderman gf persona with her a bit, rather than that of a strong desert warrior/survivor. Just nit-picking through really, she's not terrible.
A feast for the eyes and ears; Villeneuve is finally giving Nolan a run for his money as the master of IMAX filmmaking. There were several moments that were genuinely breathtaking.
