Need him to bulk out and get that powerful Bale / Salah physique. The kid has bags of potential but he doesn’t have the pure skill to get away with being diminutive his whole career (like say a Mahrez). Hopefully he and the club recognise that and get him on a programme at the end of the season.

The truth is he isn't good enough and because we are having such a bad season perception about him is different from few games. He is not technically gifted as Januzaj but scores a few more than him.
I can't see any major quality that puts fear in the heart of the opposition. He won't be starting next season with a new manager.
He needs time to develop his game but even his max potential is nothing special, perhaps an effective player that gives 10-15 goals per season

All the attention is on Rashford but he had a worse game.
It’s just utterly pointless trying to appraise players in this lack of framework. All of them are being set up to fail and have been since the opening matches of the season. You could replace whoever you want with whomever and it would make zero difference.

If he is a touch braver he wins a penalty today. He pulled out of that chance when he went clean through.
No chance. Ederson made a great tackle, Garnacho was going all in and even got clattered.

Our expectations on him are not fair, he is 19/20 and he is our 2nd senior winger after an out of form Rashford. He has no one to look up to and learn from. We need to reconfigure our attack if PSG are serious about Rashford.

Was a poor performance no doubt.

He needs to work on his physicality like others have mentioned and also his ball control. He's still in the bambi on ice phase and it's unfair we expect so much from our kids. I really dislike that he's part of the moaning, hand raising gang now although to be fair there were many chances to play the ball to him in a good position and the midfielder chose to just cycle it back and keep possession for 10 more seconds.

He just didn't seem up for it at all - felt like he was playing in a kick about with some mates down the park - not a high-intesity game against our local rivals

He’s playing far too much football at 19, it’s as simple as that. I’m not blaming Ten Hag fully as he’s been let down by the likes of Sancho, Antony, Martial, Rashford.

Less than two years ago, he was playing in our youth cup win. He shouldn’t be one of our lead attackers. You have to be a generational talent to be doing that for a top club at 19.

Agreed. We can't expect him to be consistently great, especially not given that he's now being asked to start every game.

Maybe he didn't like the set up. Knowingly going into a game when he knows he's barely going to have the ball must be depressing.

He’s played an awful lot for a teenager. I reckon in most teams he do have been given a break for a bit to get some physics and mental rest. Same for Hojlund, but it doesn’t seem to be part of ten Hag’s MO.

He should really be a bench option but because every other experienced wide player at the club has fecked up this season ETH has little choice in not utilizing him .
Though you could make a case for ETH to still cut down on Garnacho's minutes by showing more tactical variety in how he sets the team up.

He slows down slightly to take the touch around the keeper. In my opinion when players are going for those situations, they have to brave it and accept that he will get clattered. The thought process should be “I just need to touch the ball before him” because if they do, its a foul.

Not sure its a question of bravery or not, but yeah, definitely his decision to take just a small touch was definitely the wrong one. In that situation you boot the ball into the stands, get clattered, get the pen.

This is quite a good example as to what I was mentioning in the hidden gems thread. We don't have the patience here to sign a player from a lower league and let them develop. This lad is being written off already and he's been one of our brightest players all season!

Yes indeed. I would definitely agree that ideally he looks like he could do with a short break. Or being brought on more as an impact sub.

Great post. We desperately need a starting right winger to help take the load off him. At his age and his talent profile he should be coming off the bench and eventually, if he fulfills his potential to the fullest, could become a top-tier winger - but this is not the right way to groom a young player.

I’m unsure if it’s an unpopular opinion, but I just don’t see it with this lad to the same level as everyone else seems to. That he’s often one of our better players seems like a criticism of the rest of them rather than a green tick for him.

Can see him staying with us for a long time, but eventually more as a super sub rather than a first team fixture.

Actually this will require a new player, not a new manager.

You’re right that Garnacho is not yet good enough to be a starter for us if we want to be competitive (though he’s fantastic and I think he could grow into an elite starting winger), but he is the best we have in the absence of additions.

He looks tired, no surprise considering he works off his bollocks every game and hasn't had a rest in months.

He needs rotating for Amad or whoever, it really doesn't matter. The season is over and done with, let's not sacrifice Garnacho by running him into the ground for a lost cause.

This is completely absurd. He's 19. Do you see a lot of 19-year olds in the Premier League playing at that level? You can't see "any major quality that puts fear in the heart of the opposition"? Get an appointment with an optician mate.

He has been bullied off the ball and pace as long he is not playing against slouchs. Look, he is not better that alot of players at other clubs, we tend to overhype players especially due to poor season

Okay. Which teenagers exactly have been as good as him this season?

I am not here to debate teenagers because he is playing for fecking manutd and should be judged against same level of players. But let's indulge his age for a bit, he hasn't shown more than other teenagers that have failed.

I agree and have mentioned this same thing a few months ago myself.

He can be a very solid PL winger IMO with decent G/A, but I don't ever see him becoming a top 3 player in his position, and someone who will compete for the Ballon d'Or, with Madrid and Barca throwing stupid money at us in order to sign him. I also agree that I can see him staying at United for a very long time, becoming a great servant to the club, but not someone like Mbappé, Vinícius, Rashford last season, Mané, Son, Leao, etc. I don't see anything in him that makes me think he will reach that level. However, he will probably be way more consistent and on an overall higher level by the time he's 22/23, than now. It's also understandable that he will hit inconsistent patches.

Hojlund and Mainoo are definitely bigger talents than him. Maybe more people will agree now, because the last time I shared this opinion of mine, Hojlund had 1 PL goal in 15 games

Okay. Plays regularly for a club that is 6th in the world's best league, and has earned his first call-up to the reigning world champion national team, at age 19. Clearly nothing special.

Quarter finals of the cup and chasing Spurs for 5th position which could lead to CL football. It’s far from season over .

I wish our highly paid wingers were earning their bread so that we could have eased this guy into the rigors of Premier League football. He surely does have the talent and desire, but I fear that we could possibly burn him out by playing so much and by making him carry the burden of producing for the team on his young shoulders. We shouldn't do to him what Ole did to Rashford by overworking and running him into the ground.

Also, I agree with the others above, the hype is a bit OTT. Our recruitment has been so shoddy and we are so starved of seeing top talent that we tend to over-hype anyone who shows a little promise (although Garnacho ha shown a lot more than just little).

feck me. Garnacho has shown more than Phil Foden did at 19 and we have some of our own fans saying he's overrated. This place is nuts.

I can't see it but that is perhaps my own opinion. For someone whose game is being explosive, he easily gets dominated. Even at 19, Foden's football brain and technical skills were better. It should be noted though, they are different players.

Unfortunately we are already ruining him by playing him too much especially when in bad form. He shouldn't be playing these many games especially when he doesn't look physically ready.

He's not being overplayed. He's fine. We don't have midweek games pretty much ever. Just because he tires later in games doesn't mean much other than he's a 19 year old who works his ass of every game in a system that is at best, end to end more than any other big team in the world, which means he'll just get more tired anyway. He doesn't need a rest, he gets that as it is in the week as do the others.

Sorted his feet out today, the ball wasnt getting stuck under there. He had a clean touch and knew when and where he wanted to take the ball with his dribbling. The first half in particular he was on fire great performance

Without him, we'd look toothless in attack. He was a constant thorn in Everton's side today. I don't mind that he was a little wasteful in front of goal - pretty much all 19 year old wingers are.

Head up, positive and direct play, looking to make things happen. United simply don't have enough of players like him.

A proper shift again today. We can all see where there’s room for improvement but for his age Alejandro is outstanding.
