I've grown to have real admiration for Maguire. He's had a pretty good season and was excellent yesterday when he came on. Good on him

Faultless performance, was a real driving force. That might be the best I’ve ever seen him play.

In my mind he's still out at Old Trafford this morning, leaping like a Minecraft Gazelle, heading everything in sight.

At this point I'd want him to start at CB tbh.
Antother massive performance from him yesterday. This man has so much fighting spirit in him plus he's a beast in the air.

I'd like him to start at CB rather than Lindelof or Varane.
With Lindelof I get it that he's better on the ball than Harry, but Varane?
What exactly does Varane have over Maguire that justifies him starting? He's weaker in the air, less physical, might be slower at this point in his career, plays with much less intensity and they're both shit with the ball at their feet.

Ole said on the overlap, the incident on holiday with the police and his family affected him more than people knew.

I know people have formed opinions of him based on last 2 seasons, but I genuinely feel he should be kept at the club, if not as 2nd choice CB then 3rd choice CB. He is a fantastic character, and has shown great resilience this season.

Unpopular opinion, but he surely has been among our top 3-4 players this season.

Glorious moment when he caught the Liverpool backline out with the run off the last defender.

The commentators were creaming themselves over that Quansah lad the entire game.

He was bloody great against Liverpool. Came on and caused absolute chaos in their box  and defended well too.

I've grown to really admire him. How can you not? To go through what he's had to deal with, it would destroy many players. The mental fortitude of the guy is something else.

I loved seeing the reception he got from the fans around the tunnel after the game. He's really turning it around.

He's been really good this season. Hopefully he keeps this up and if so, we keep him this summer.
I hope he scores a last minute winner in the cup final against city.

Then he moves to somewhere in Italy or Spain this summer, leaving a cult hero and one of those players that has his name sung for the next 50 years.

Best outcome for everyone.

Fun stats from this season -

When Maguire plays >45 mins we win 20% more games, lose 16% fewer and concede 0.25 fewer goals per game, vs when he doesnt.

When Varane plays >45 mins we win 22% more games, lose 24% fewer and concede 0.51 fewer goals per game.

Not meaning to bash Maguire with this comparison just showing that these two have had good seasons and we've been far better with than without them.

I thought he was great when he came on, especially considering the unusual role. As a matter of fact I thought all subs did great. It will be interesting to see who start next next game. The subs played well, but at the same time ETH said that the first 30 minutes (ie before any subs) were the best we’ve played since he got here.

He was the only CB who played OK. His partners all game was absolutely terrible. You cannot play well with Martinez next to you when he was so far off as tonight.

Played well. His type of match but him and Varane were the only outfield players I’d say merited a 6 or above today.

Shaky start but played pretty well after that- God it's weird saying that when we conceded 4 goals but there you go.

Need a huge performance from him on Sunday as he's probably our only fit central defender for the game :nervous:

Probably why he decided to stay at us in the summer. Saw how injury prone everybody else is and he would get his chance regardless.

The weekend game might suit him if we try play on transition and he can sit back

Brilliant today considering non existent midfield and a young player beside him.

Clearances = brilliant.

Direction of clearances, composure and passing = eurgh.

Overall okay I guess considering the result and amount of attacks faced.

He’s playing really well at the moment. This chaos type football doesn’t really suit him and it does expose his lack of pace but he’s somehow making it work.

I liked when he motioned for Kambwala to calm down after he had geed up the crowd, then rashly twatted the ball wide straight to a Liverpool player to lose possession.

Overall he did alright though.

One of the reasons we kept getting put under pressure is (not just him) the rashness of the clearances and not having composure to look for a pass. Casemiro the worst for this today mind you. Dalot was probably the best most composed even in tight situations

I thought he was shite.

No composure, no leadership, no communication. Heading balls into the air when he had time, passes going out for throw ins etc.

Passing was poor throughout the game, many times did his thread led to a turnover. Did well covering the defence though.

And the reason for that is that Liverpool press as well as anyone and also cut off passing options which our midfield rarely did anything to combat.

He can't play passes to no one.

Did well defensively. His passing, vision and general technique is just awful though

Scary moment when he tried to dribble out of the box. It went so slow and clumsy and he lost the ball to a Liverpool who muscled him off the ball. Some not so great passes but his defending was okay today. He is the third option so cant expect him to be perfect.
