Not sure if it's just me but feels like Bellinghams been hesitant to pass to him on a few occasions
To be honest I felt the opposite, both from the sub appearance the other day and this one, it felt like rice/Foden/Bellingham all trusted him and had a good understanding.

Mainoo is the closest thing to a Modric type midfielder that England has so I'm sure he recognizes that

Southgate will revert to type and start Henderson-Rice at the Euros
Henderson is 34 in the summer and not even that good. He plays in a farmers' league. The press would rightly crucify Southgate if he did that.

If anyone needs dropping it's Foden. Without Pep telling him where to stand he's not much at all.

Hard not to be excited, if we build a midfield around him we may end up with something special.

Could've done with Foden staying wide more for better outballs but I thought Mainoo was so composed today. Bellingham should've scored from that cracking press from Kobbie.

Going to bed knowing he's ours is a feckin awesome feeling.

I'd play McTominay over him - his all round play is generally better.

Am I doing this right?

I disagree with your first paragraph but I agree with your second

Just hope we get him tied down to another long term deal. He’s absolutely top drawer.

He ain't leaving United. Local lad and United is his team.

We have a fecking brilliant core, Hojlund, Garnacho and now Mainoo.

A player like Mainoo you know will stay long term, just have to keep him developing and keep him hungry.

Everton was Rooney’s team as well, but he wanted trophies. I just hope we’re finally getting our shit together.

He's gone to the literal top of England's talent pool and proven he can not only hang, but thrive. After that, you only have an international who's who left to see where his limits lay.

The message of what we need to do is loud and clear and that's getting supplementary players into midfield ASAP, not only for our needs but for him to develop fully.

Everton isn't Man Utd, we have a very good young core now, if Sancho could get a kick up the ass under new management we'd have a very strong team IMO.

He's going to leave though. I'm hopeful INEOS can start to get us in shape.

Not sure what you are trying to prove with this. That we have spent a lot in the past? Yes we did, a lot of it also wasted money, which is exactly why, despite having huge revenues, we have almost nothing left to spend in coming years due to FFP rules.

I just can't get over how good and composed he is at just 18 years old and with 14 PL starts to his name. Just completely unfazed all the time. Incredible talent.

Nice performance from Mainoo tonight.

Felt a bit sorry for Foden as Kobbie was playing in some very attacking positions. No reason Foden couldn’t play in that role instead of being moved out wide

Mainoo
Foden - Jude

Against teams England will dominate.

Rice has to start for that team. He's too good at that role to not and it's always needed.

  Sancho.. it's a kick out the door he wants, not a kick up the ass.

Foden has never had a good game for England. Probably his best game tonight and he was alright, but he’s not the absolute cert that the press make out for England. He’s had enough games now and it’s clear he’s a totally different player for his club.

Only Bellingham outshone him really, unreal levels for an 18 year old to be showing and he should have had a goal and an assist.

Of course. I don't think anyone even questions that, the question is who partners Bellingham and Rice.

I remember after his first or second app for us I said in this thread that he'd be starting for us in the Euros and I reckon by the end of the season it will be pretty much set in stone, as long as he stays fit.

We need midfielders on a similar wavelength at United and our play will transform. We have a 10 who can’t play a short game, but once we get a 10 who can pass and move and play a short game, Mainoo will look even better for us.

Well done Mainoo. Personally didn't think he was the best player in the field but I'm not mad at the award. Hope he stays hungry and injury free.

Anyone hear Southgate's interview on talksport around 15 mins ago. He said playing Mainoo left the team exposed, and that it was clear a couple of times. I think he favours 2 holding midfielders and Jude. He previously described Mainoo as a progressive player rather than a holding midfielder. Is Southgate the manager to take Mainoo forward at international level or club level?

I'm with @2 man midfield here, we either get ourselves together and start challenging, or some of these young players will seek to move away, no matter their love for the club.

A footballers career is a short one, he'll move if we're not winning trophies.

That pre season game against Arsenal you could tell this lad had bags of potential. Delighted he’s doing so well.

So wholesome, really hope he can keep his head down and continue on this trajectory.

Can only go to the very top if he keeps working hard and staying focused like I feel he will with his cool and calm temperament. Nothing seems to phase him so far at this stage in his career

Long may it continue, the hardware and hopeful team silverware will follow if it does.
