Its refreshing to see another club getting screwed over by their big money signing for a change.

Honestly I'm amazed he's not at United with the luck we have.
Well yeah, we're just getting in the bloke who signed him instead.

He clearly needs help. Hopefully that’s happening.

Done it again! Milan have done very well to get rid of him.
I mean gambling addiction is really sad, and an absolutely terrible thing.

But, objectively speaking - looking at it from a solely Newcastle United POV... this is pretty hilarious

If he actually has a mental disorder then it does seem very harsh to punish him at all, rather than get him treatment for his addiction issues.
It's a sporting integrity issue though so I can understand why they clamp down hard. Look at the issues Cricket had a few years back with spot bet fixing.

Having said that if this latest gambling occurred before his current ban then there's an argument to say he's already served the time for it.

Never said I wanted to. But advertising it should be strictly prohibited.
They banned the advertising of beer and fags, gambling should go the same way. No matter what game you watch, every single betting company will be advertising, before during half time and after. I've even been watching games where they provide the in match odds for different things.

Rules is rules, if he was addicted to drugs or PEDs, addiction wouldn't be an excuse not to ban him. Ban him but offer help and a reduction if he addresses the problem.

it really is a huge issue. I can’t even begin to imagine how incredibly tough it must be for addicts to watch games. It’s basically impossible.

Especially when you've got any number of gambling possibilities is the palm of your hand.

At least with drink and fags, if you had none you at least had to make a concious effort to get up off you're arse and go get some. Which undoubtedly would put a lot of people off.

Although I did work for an off license that did home deliveries, sometimes you knew as soon as you picked up the phone what the person wanted. Sad, when I think back now, a few people would ring almost every day and order the same thing.

You have been able to order alcohol to your door within 30min of ordering it for quite some time now. Cigarettes, too. Sign of the times.

Yeah, that was nearly 20 years now that I think about it. It was a great service when you were at a house a party in college and ran out of drink. Not so much if you're ordering a bottle of vodka and 40 fags every day.

There's a couple round by me who use the drinking order services and it's both the best and worst thing that can happen to them per weekend. Copious amounts of alcohol on hand to the push of a button, far more than you'd be able to get if you estimated your needs for an evening/weekend and ran out, but were too pished to go a distance for more.

As with everything, moderation is key, but when their nights get out of control the amount of bottles you hear clinking into the recycle bin the next morning is insane, and often, they can't even close their bin and have bottles stacked around it by the time the two week cycle is up.

The likes of Co-Op via Just Eat etc. will bring you smokes to your door so long as you have ID.

Apps and the ease of ordering on vices have enhanced some lives enormously, I'm sure, and on the other side, brought descent into ruinous conditions (health or financial) at a massively accelerated rate.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club. Would be pretty funny if he also misses next season. But I will echo what others have said, it's supremely hypocritical when gambling ads are plastered everywhere. I think they should be banned unconditionally. If you are old enough to gamble, you are old enough to find out where on your own.

Because the industry is built on finding more and more ways to suck money from the public through ads and easy entry points, ruining lives and families in the process?

Because it produces degenerate gamblers who harass players and coaches when their parlays don't hit?

Because it bans more knowledgeable gamblers from even playing, capping their wins but not their losses?

Because players can't even gamble? If the very presence of gambling threatens the integrity of organized sport, why allow gambling on organize sport at all?

Gambling should be banned.
Nah, assuming you mean banning bookies I think it would just drive it underground and make the issue worse. Needs a lot more education, safeguarding and legislation though. It's a horrible business I agree. They prey on vulnerable people and induce addiction as a core part of their strategy.

No it wouldn't

(Most) people aren't going to find Paulie the bookie who'll kneecap you if you don't pay the weekly vig

There is a huge gambling crisis BECAUSE of the ease of access.
