Something looks off with her left hand. Is that an extra finger?
I think that the pic is 100% real, but nowadays im paranoid. Because this pic comes with news link and video that she had been arrested

But any election of any important country we will see non verified crazy stuff that people without internet critical thinking will lap it up. Even with a certain degree of critical thinking if it is well done

Unhinged post.
Why? You only hear about her when she is in trouble with the law in various countries.
She doesn’t have the gobby precocious kid angle anymore to shock and delight, and people are familiar with her shenanigans now - she doesn’t get much exposure anymore.
Im not saying don’t agree with her cause, but there are other and better ways to go about affecting change than anti-social behaviour and disturbing the peace.

Not agreeing with this particular form of protest as it's a bit shit but disagree with your overall tone and demenour.

Enlighten us about better ways to go about affecting change? We've barely made any progress in combating climate change. Wealth is being funneled further to the top. What Thunberg is protesting are these entities: Companies that are responsible for the vast majority of pollution, wealth inequality and politicians that keep on letting them.

What Thunberg is doing is at least keeping the press writing and people talking which is more than 99.99% of the people in the world are doing.

Because if you agree with her cause, calling her a twat for participating in protests is absurd. If peaceful protesting is going too far, then I wonder what level of activism you consider acceptable. She obviously feels very strongly about these issues, and she gives a lot of support to activists and protestors. You and I might only hear about her when she is in trouble with the law, but I'm certain there's a lot more to it than that.

Recognize the fact that she considers climate change to be the single most important issue of the day, and one that could have truly grave consequences for her future and that of her generation. Given that, peacefully blocking a highway is hardly beyond the scope of a reasonable response. Clearly waiting for politicians to act hasn't worked.

Trying to force change before the alternatives are there is usually a bad idea, imo

It’s also very expensive.

Look at the consequences of Germanys energiewende, the dependence on Russian oil and gas and how that turned out. I sure as shit didn’t enjoy the spike in electricity prices.

Thank god we’ve been sensible enough to avoid MDG in Norway, who are completely bonkers when it comes to oil and gas, where they’ve wanted us to stop oil and gas production quckly just to be a shining beacon that others can follow. Great idea. For some strange reason they’ve kept their mouths shut about it since Russia invaded Ukraine and Russian oil and gas became slightly less popular (and very popular in some areas of the world)

Thunberg is a bit meaningless, daft stunt after daft stunt, like that sailboat trip to the United States.

Also: Not sure i understand this whole «barely made any progress in combating climate change». Things are progressing, it’s just that it takes time. Look at the transition to electric cars and the overall effect on local emissions, shipowners building and converting vessels to reduce emissions, electric ferries and whatnot on stretches that allows it.

The problem is that there’s no money in the bigger projects, like offshore windfarms where it’s generally insanely expensive and requires very high electricity prices just to break even.

We depend on technology to get there, not just simply deciding to shut things down because it’s sure as shit not going to be the top % that will struggle the most in those scenarios.

Blocking a highway just results in people being insanely annoyed and provoked, less likely to have an open ear for the cause.. It also leads to cars standing still while using fuel, further increasing emissions as they still have to get where they were planning on going, funnily enough.

You could make that exact case for any protest, and all strikes. It's not a valid argument IMO.

You can have plenty of protests in areas that don’t have a major impact on transportation.

Obviously it’ll get less attention and fewer arrests.

Inconveniencing ordinary members of the public to make a political point is selfish, thoughtless and self-defeating.
I doubt politicians pay any attention because they will just let the police deal with the protesters. Those who are inconvenienced are probably turned off the issues that the protesters want to highlight.
Look at Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil targeting events like Chelsea flower show, Wimbledon, the Grand National, F1 GP etc like they are on a mission to piss off the whole population. It doesn’t achieve anything more than a criminal record for the numpties involved. It’s not constructive and doesn’t get the message across like they aim to.
I’m more for specific actions like anti-logging protestors camping in trees, Greenpeace targeting whaling boats or fracking protestors blockading fuel depots etc. No need to bother the public in general.

I said less attention, i didn’t say no attention.

I think the only things these people are demonstrating is that they are in no way whatsoever someone that should be taken seriously in matters that will have a massive effect on large populations

Lets organize protest without bothering anyone. See how newsworthy it gets

They convinced us so much to be civil and tamed because the only thing they fear is real protests and violence, that is the only thing that worked throughout history

Why would they fear real protests? Obviously everyone fears violence

There’s a group in Oslo that slashes tires on SUV’s In the holy name of the environment, also they’re morons so they’ve slashed tires on a large amount of electric cars as well because they can‘t tell them apart..I thought that was well funny.

Fear protests that doesn't allow the workers and the economy produce. stop working for a while losing millions and see how they come around. Violence of course against the ones that rules (politicians and the ones behind)

Jesus christ. Not sure when and where in the past you’re from, but violence against those that rule isn’t exactly the road to overthrowing and establishing a new government. It was a bit easier when you could just chop someones head off and claim the throne to install a new set of rules, these days it’s generally called terrorism and is overall frowned upon.

I also care about the potentially civilization-ending effects of climate change but I don't want to be late for work because of a blocked road, so it's a difficult one.

Well, we’re working on a transition to autonomous vessels to increase fuel efficiency on long transits to reduce emissions, on further evolving our AUVS so they can complete more complicated tasks usually reserved for IMR vessel, which will further reduce emissions offshore. There’s the remote ROV projects where they are docked offshore and charged by solar panels, there’s the remote control centers to limit the amount of people needed offshore. We just launched Reach remote 1.

There’s a vast number of major projects being worked on in order to reduce emissions, thank god they’re not busy blocking highways or trying to damage sculptures/pictures/whatnot in an attempt to get attention.

The fact remains that we’re still depending on oil and gas, and we will be for quite some time, pretending that it’s just a switch that can easily be turned off is likely to have negative consequences rather than positive ones. If an energy company, say Equinor released information on monday morning that they will drop all oil and gas projects to only focus on renewables, the share would collapse simply because there’s no money in it.

certainly I remember:

Biggest inequality since the medieval age
Losing health care system quality
Losing retirement pension purchasing power
Countries raising the retirement pension age saying that there is no money while the political class raises their salary, uses their position to get gigs and spend hundreds of thousands in private flights
0 realistic access to housing for the lower to mid-middle class
+50% of your income going to rent
free higher education getting less realistic

Thats just a few that didn't need a protest

It's unpleasant for her and all those scientists to shine attention on something that makes me sad. I prefer to hear about climate change solely through large corporations telling me how much they care, they make me feel like everything is okay.

If we just wait I'm sure they'll sort it out, they do care loads.

Norway has had to raise the retirement age simply because the one we had was not sustainable, so it should be rather obvious that other countries have to do the same, it’s generally a consequence of people living longer.

Not sure why you expect free higher education. Not even Norway has that.

All this that you mention are economic driven, not climate driven. We need to lose money if we want to make it

The shitty emission trade market for the steel and cement industry to continue polluting. And we create new shitty things with 0 value out of nothing like cryptocurrency:

https://unu.edu/press-release/un-st...pacts-bitcoin-carbon-not-only-harmful-product

According to study results, published by the United Nations University and Earth’s Future journal, during the 2020–2021 period, the global Bitcoin mining network consumed 173.42 Terawatt hours of electricity. This means that if Bitcoin were a country, its energy consumption would have ranked 27th in the world, ahead of a country like Pakistan, with a population of over 230 million people. The resulting carbon footprint was equivalent to that of burning 84 billion pounds of coal or operating 190 natural gas-fired power plants. To offset this footprint, 3.9 billion trees should be planted, covering an area almost equal to the area of the Netherlands, Switzerland, or Denmark or 7% of the Amazon rainforest.

During this time period, Bitcoin's water footprint was similar to the amount of water required to fill over 660,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, enough to meet the current domestic water needs of more than 300 million people in rural sub-Saharan Africa. The land footprint of worldwide Bitcoin mining activities during this period was 1.4 times the area of Los Angeles.
And that is an example. If EV are getting implemented is not because government decisions forced it. Is bc Tesla and others had being chewing away the existing car manufacture market. If fuel efficiency systems appears is not to save the planet. Is fecking money

This is what they tell you. We live longer than decades before (less than 10% than 30 years ago), but our economies and productivity had grown much more. Who is keeping this benefits. When in US 400 people have the same money than the bottom 60%, is not that there is no money for everyone. And this are physical people, not counting companies as a whole

If society would be fair, fair taxes, weed out corruption and we would have plenty. But is easier to keep it for themselves and blame it that we live too long.

Why I expect free higher education? because everybody should have access to it and the cost would not be as much. Also is good for the country's intelligence. Doesn't mean that everybody that has education is intelligent, but surely they are a more intelligent version of themselves without. But of course, the more donkeys we are, the easier will ride us

It’s somewhat ironic that you’re complaining about public health systems gradually getting worse, less value for your money when you retire, increase in retirement age etc, but at the same time you’re thinking that we need to be climate driven and lose money while there aren’t any suitable alternatives. Good luck funding the public health systems and early retirement.

Government decisions have played a large part in forcing the transition over to electrical vehicles, not sure what you’re on about.

There’s a huge focus on fuel efficiency systems in the maritime world because we’re facing stricter and stricter requirements from governments.

You should seriously look into the government costs related to pensions in Norway. We can’t afford it, it’s that simple.

You keep expecting a lot of shit to improve and be free of all costs for someone who wants to focus on the climate

I dont have an expectation of free higher education, I have a belief that free higher education over the long term has a positive impact on societies and outcomes.
Im in my 60s, I had a free higher education which I have paid back via taxes over my working life. Free higher education is a long term positive.

I don’t think anyone is arguing against the fact that higher education should be as cheap as possible, ideally free, or the positive impact it has on society.

But something has to actually fund it.

Read above, there is money enough to cover those loses and be able to get quality services. Inequality needs to be fix and is the main economic problem. Not societal services. Health issues caused by climatic pollution

https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/c-chan...tion-responsible-for-1-in-5-deaths-worldwide/

1 of each 5 people die for it. With the prior health treatments that hampers health system

You are just parrot what the system proclaims

And sure, governments helps. But too little too late and pressure in part to protests but mostly driven for economic gains

The belief that there arent any suitable alternatives is horribly misguided. There are so many solutions and alternatives happening around the world that are slowly but surely making positive changes. You need to start to actually look, when you do you will see them.

I dont expect "free shit". I expect that the explotation and inequality stops and taxes to the rich and companies paya for the "free shit"
