So what's the catch here?

It's not likely to be targeting the running reactors, but instead trying to get France to reduce the number of planned reactors (6 plus consideration for a further 8). France wanted to reduce nuclear power output to 50%, but have scrapped that target for now.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
Not like something happened in 2020 that affected GDP...
Also probably influenced by the realization that Trump is insane and might actually try to dismantle NATO, or at least pull the US out of it.

He was actually going to do it as well. If he gets in another time, without his almost rational minders this time, he probably will.

And EDF is responsible for building the new nuclear power plant at Hinckley in Somerset.
It has just been put back by another 4 years and is way way over budget.

Cutting off his cronies from EU funds would be good first step.
Absolutely. I believe he had trouble getting a part of the COVID relief fund so had to pipe down for a while. People like him are just incompetent and corrupt and maintain power by sucking cash from the EU. They should respond by starving him of it

EU group backed by von der Leyen plans Rwanda-style migration reforms

Centre-right European People’s party says it wants to create deportation deals with non-EU countries to head off rise of far right

A group of political parties backing Ursula von der Leyen for a second term in one of the most powerful jobs in Brussels at the head of the European Commission is planning to call for further migration reforms, similar to the UK’s Rwanda policy, to head off the rise of the far right.

fecking hell, its a terrible policy even if it worked which it doesn't.

The EU courts would surely stop it.

Though on the other hand Imagine if Starmer gets in and abolishes the policy only for the EU to introduce it.

That would be a popcorn moment, watching PTW climb down off his high horse.

Is there a term limit for Hungarian presidents and if so, when will Orban's time be up?

Yes 2 terms… Unfortunately, Hungary is a parliamentary republic where the president holds a mostly ceremonial role, similar to the kings of Britain (Actually, he has less power than the kings). But this doesn’t affect Orban who is “Prime minister”, the office that holds most of the executive power and there is no term limit for that position...

No term limit? Okay...

Do prime ministers ever have term limits? It's not really a feature of the parliamentary system.
Don't know. My guess would have been that the office with the highest executive power would have term limits, whether that's a President or Prime Minister.

I had a look, and as far as I can tell there are four countries where Prime Ministers have term limits: Laos, Mongolia, Thailand and China. Term limits are mostly just a head of state thing. In a parliamentary system the head of government derives their power from the composition of the elected body and not on their own. We had one guy for 17 years in Norway, though in three different periods.

Portuguese maga party got 20% in yesterday's elections. The center right won by only 1% so we will either have a minority government or a coalition between center right and the nutjobs. The current center right leader says there will be no coalition, so it seems we'll have a very unstable government which probably won't last the full term.

Very depressing to see 1 in 5 voting for a racist and homophobic party.

Not unusual for my parents to make some inhuman comment when I pay them a visit based on whatever crap they are being fed in the news of late. Guess there's some story doing the rounds that UK Coastguard are now "begging for money to rescue migrants", in their words. "I wouldn't give them a dime"... as if that's all they do.

”Today, the EU Parliament gave Ukraine a hard kick in the shins. The extended free trade agreement is delayed and deteriorated because of the EPP and the Sweden Democrats.”

Not really sure what we will bring to EU, and being Muslim country I doubt we will ever get an offical invite anyway, but for our own safety this is obviously very good for us, one step closer to EU and NATO for us can't be bad by any means.

Top comment:

Slovakia (2022 data)

Share of exports to Russia:
0.52%

Share of exports to the EU: 87%

Share of imports from Russia: 6.76%

Share of imports from the EU: 78%

" This is most probably a not so tasteful eu election campaign billboard of a pro EU and pro NATO political party called Demokrati. Their members were the ones who sent S300s, tanks and Mig 29s to Ukraine at a time when Germany was sending helmets, cause they “did’t want to escalate the conflict”. There is text missing, I feel like something will be added (that changes the meaning) after it generates enough buzz. People are already defacing these billboards just to be sure though. "

The Democratic party is behind the controversial billboard campaign with the slogans "We will not survive without Russia" or "Ukraine is the enemy". It was probably the so-called teasing to interrupt and to be supplemented by a second phase with an explanation. The party will have a press release on the campaign on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

so it's some kind of marketing campaign
