I know he's not exactly known for making reputable cinema but he almost always comes through at the box office, just has that mass appeal.

That being said I think The Rock is genuinely a good movie by Michael Bay and is still watchable almost 30 years later. With that being the case, you could say Michael Bay is classic Hollywood cinema. Nicholas Cage being a Nicholas Cage lead. Connery being a misogynistic asshole James Bond guy. Ed Harris as a villain that you still like. Great casting that.

I say we make a Caf movie hall of Fame with The Rock being the inaugural film.

I think The Rock has a good chance tonight. Obviously he's a bit older but he's in good condition and if Roman can get the bloodline involved, they have every chance.

Fantastic film and part of the greatest action trilogy of all time (the Nic Cage action trilogy).

The Rock
Conair
Face/Off

Name me three consecutive action films by one actor better than that.

I certainly enjoyed watching Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris' performances in that flick, but the real reason why that movie still stands the test of time is Sean Connery. His portrayal of John Patrick Mason was like a throwback to the OG James Bond albeit aged, wrinkled by the many years in prison and yet still hopeful of being free again. It was just perfect and he stood out on top of the entire cast.

If someone asks me what was the last Sean Connery performance that was truly memorable, I say it was in that movie.

I liked The Rock back in the 90s. Was one of my favourites to watch.

After a while things just got repetitive and stale. Once you've seen The Rock enough times its just the same act over and over. Although it is good to see more recently that time hasn't changed all too much of The Rock's entertainment appeal.

I didn't mention it earlier, but the fact that Quentin Tarantino worked as an uncredited screenwriter also helps in making sure that a number of scenes and specific pieces of dialogue are now memorable as well. It was the same thing for Crimson Tide, for which people still remember a lot of great things today as the prototypical Jerry Bruckheimer-produced movie.

I think they even had Aaron Sorkin on board as an uncredited script doctor too, so this typical Jerry Bruckenheimer action film had two of the best screenwriters in the past 30 years in Sorkin and Tarantino involved. That ‘Winners go home and feck the prom queen’ line almost certainly came from one of them.

It’s a fun movie and I like the theory that Connery is playing an older James Bond in it. It fits well.

I love the film but I still get a headache when that Marine is fighting Mason and he says "English prick. I ever tell you my old man was Irish?" Which is annoying for three different reasons, each of which could've been nullified by Mason finishing the fight off with a simple quip like "feck off ya daft wee cnut" or something less intellectual.

Dick Clement and Ian LeFrenais, behind PORRIDGE, THE LIKELY LADS, and AUF WEIDERSEHEN, PET worked on many of Connery’s films as far back as NEVER SAY NEVE AGAIN, they would give him most of his witty lines. The did a dialogue pass on THE ROCK.
