You're entitled to your wrong opinion.
I just don’t get why it’s good? It felt like fallout sure. But was nothing like as good as the last of us which felt like genuinely brilliant TV. I’ll give the other episodes a go but based on the reaction to episode 1 on here, I’m not feeling confident.

Awful? Come on. Even Rings of Power wasn't awful, just cringey dialogue at times and could've been so much better. This one is perfectly fun and very watchable.

Maybe you were hoping for a different kind of show?

And I'm all out of bubblegum.

It was funny, well acted, the story was interesting, and as someone who enjoyed the games it tickled me to see the world of Fallout. It's not The Last of Us, which is perhaps fantastic, but I think "terrible" is obviously wrong. But then again it's also obviously subjective. If you don't like it, you don't like it.

Loved the games, did the first episode tonight and it’s better than I thought it would be. Also the missus watched it having no knowledge of the game/world and enjoyed it so it’s doing something right.

I’ll go agaisnt the grain and say episode 1 was awful. Not sure why it’s getting soo hyped. Felt like a video game without any of the fun. Then again fallout has never been the most interesting universe.
The first few episodes werent very good but by the end of the 8 episodes its good. Up to you if you want to watch 8 episodes for it to come together

How important is it to have played the games to enjoy the series? I've never played the games and only have a vague sense of the universe.

Based on episode 1 it’s probably better if you haven’t played the games, because if you have you pretty much have played a version of the events about 20 times.

Why are you giving viewer advice based on a single episode?
Why not? The first episode has been played out in video game format many times. If you haven’t experienced that then you’ll probably enjoy it more. I can’t comment on how that develops yet, but that’s why I didn’t say anything about the rest.

That's a bit like saying you'd enjoy Saving Private Ryan more if you didn't play Medal of Honor or Call of Duty, or if you haven't heard about the invasion of Normandie. I just think it doesn't work like that. Besides, it's the first episode of an alternate history TV series for a general audience, obviously they're going to spend a lot of the first episode setting up the world, and equally obviously that one episode probably won't be representative for the rest of the series as far as "aware of the source material".

But in my case knowing about Fallout only it more enjoyable, not less.

3 episodes in and I like it. Not amazing or anything but it's a fun watch, which is helped by the cartoon violence. Some dodgy special effects with the power armour but that's easy to overlook. I was wondering where I had heard the main character before. She played Jinx in Arcane. She's very good. Videogame adaptations are getting much better in recent years.

Edit: Also the best exchange so far.

"The wasteland's got its own golden rule."

"What's that?"

"Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit every goddamn time."

So fecking true for those games.

Those of you who haven't played the games and enjoy the show, I'd suggest playing Fallout new Vegas. It's the best in the series and works very well as a standalone experience that perfectly encapsulates the fallout lore and feel.

Yikes I agree it’s perhaps the best writing - but dated now and not sure id recommend it as first experience…

I actually feel it's a bit overrated. While I remember enjoying it quite a bit, I have many more fond memories of F3 and all it's expansions. So much nostalgia.....

Great season, easily the best video game adaptation to date, that was previously held by The Last of Us. I hoped for some Deathclaws but they only teased them at the end and saving them for season 2 probably.

Vegas is my favourite as well.
Wish it had some more Super mutants, but other than that, I think it nailed it best.

Really looking forward to the Fallout 3 remaster though, although not looking forward to fecking around in them underground tunnels

Surprised that so many folk didn't like the power armour stuff - I thought it looked pretty decent. Also worth noting that a lot of it wasn't CGI.

Anyway, I just saw a pretty nifty spoilerific theory about the Brotherhood of Steel in the show. It sort of adds up (sort of)...

The West Coast Brotherhood have merged with the Legion. This is why they all have Roman/Latin names like Maximus, Titus, Thadeus, Quintus etc. They follow similar religious rites like the branding of their squires and Maximus' vow of celibacy. The BoS flag in the games has had a bunch of different colours but never the same gold and red that the Legion have, which is the one they use in the show. According to Titus, Maximus will be hanged from his lungs as punishment - which as far as executions go seems like a pretty Legiony way of brutally doing it.

It might mean that the story in season 2 is less convoluted, if you're introducing Robert House (shown already in the finale) and more of the NCR, and the inevitable war against the Legion and other New Vegas dickheads.

Food Blamco Mac & Cheese for thought.

I think I preferred the last of us. Had that HBO touch.

At the end of Episode 5. Its not amazing but its solid. Certainly the best of the Amazon adaptations in my humble opinion. 7 outta 10ish tv, that genuinely has me smiling all the way through.
