I like this dude. I think he’s got another big move left in him. We need a feeder club like city have. Why not unless they ban it? Guaranteed first team exposure in a top or top-ish league for a loanee is the best apprenticeship you can ever have. It’s in their interests to play the player because it’s all part of the same financial eco system.
That would be Nice.

Apparently he can't be recalled since a player can only play official matches for no more than two clubs in a single season.]

Anyone know how he went for Benfica today? I saw he came on at half-time against Toulouse but didn't get to see any of the game.

Second (consecutive) start in the league and he just scored his first goal for Benfica.

Great news.

I saw he'd started the last league game, but then realised it was because the regular LB had been sent off the game before and was suspended. So I was expecting Fernandez to return to the bench for this game as the first choice was available again. Good to hear that he's both started and scored.

Wow. Perhaps it was because of low expectations but I saw shades of Bale there :smirk:

I always thought he was a bit under developed physically and I'm guess this isn't against quality opposition but if he can have a Dalot like growth athletically, he could be an interesting prospect. Shame I don't think he will stay here that long though. Ideally he would be on a well curated loan spell to get him the minutes and gym work.

Pretty stupid to loan him out and pretty stupid deal to only have a 6m euro buy option. Club obviously does not rate him I guess

In hindsight he could have had plenty of game time if he stayed with us.. Happy for him that he's finally getting a chance there. If Benfica don't buy him for whatever reasons, he should get a chance and we might save money.

The deal was insanely stupid, but we have a buy back option in case they trigger the clause. Knowing the old board though that option might be another 25m..

I don't understand his treatment at Benfica for the first half of the season, he looks so promising whenever I see him play
He was on loan at Granada for the 1st half of this season. 14 games, nothing special.

I don't think he'd good enough to play for a top 4 PL team. Decent player and should have a reasonably good career. He did well at Preston.

Not really: he barely played both at Granada and Benfica and he will never have the skillset to make part of Manchester United squad in the next years.
Should had placed a buyback clause, though. Just in case.
I dunno. He certainly has the talent going forward, just needs to get more solid defensively.
I thought there was a buyback clause.

Have to say I disagree here - Reminds me of a younger Grimaldo who needed a few years to develop the defensive side of his game to allow him to become quite complete - I think he's worth holding onto.

Better than AWB at left back?

I’d like to see Alvaro come back this summer. Hard to say WTF is going on with Shaw and Malacia but we have a problem at LB and as solid of a job Dalot is doing there we need a backup for him, and if either Shaw or Malacia is back next season we could use cover for either as well.

We've got Harry Amass.

He's 17, right? I wouldn't want to see a 17 year old asked to defend Salah or Saka.

But Amass is a fantastic prospect, no doubt about it.
He'll have to be given an opportunity at some point. If it was up to me, I'd integrate him into the first team squad with the view of him becoming our backup left back next season. The position is massively in flux though of course with the unreliability of Shaw and Malacia added to the possibility of a new signing. Difficult to predict how they will assess it.

If it were to become permanent, we have a buy back clause, first refusal clause and sell on clause according to Romano when the initial loan happened

Agree. So many posters are very quick to decide that player x, y or z are never going to be 'United' quality, so let's get rid. With Fernandez, there is definitely a player there, but I agree that defensively he has a lot to learn.
(By the way, well done to Stevenage this season, it will be interesting to see how you do with a new manager in charge
next season).

Thanks man, didn't quite make it up in the end but interesting times ahead, better than my other team Maidstone who got relegated and didn't manage to get back up either, at least United give me something to be happy about... oh wait..

I think top teams need to look for wing backs that can attack before defend and hope to nurture that into them at a later point, Dalot is quite rounded so to have somebody on the left that's more attacking could be a good option and I do think there is a player there. It's a shame he hasn't had more game time as the limited times I have seen him he looks exciting.

Disappointing, as there's definite talent there and we've not exactly been overloaded with quality and always available left backs over recent years so there is an opportunity for a Fernandez or Amass to establish themselves in the squad.

If we have got a buy back option then that's good at least. Let him develop there for a couple of years or so and see how things lie then. However it's a low price for a talented young player like that. Can't help but feel some of the other top teams would have got more for a young talent like him. But hopefully that will be one of the things that change under INEOS.

That’s the first £5.13m only £144.87m left to find now to have a decent summer window!

Another academy sale represents 100% profit.

He certainly looks good as a wing back, lots of useful skills, wonder if he'll develop into a midfielder in time.
I do like players who have skills on the ball.

Any idea if Revell will be given another shot, or has that ship sailed? Evans going was a bit of a shock, what sort of reception will he get when he comes back with Rotherham?

Wouldn't be surprised either but I see him as wing back in a 5-3-2 - would work well at someone like Leverkusen style system like their wingbacks do.

Revell is one of their own but I don't think he has the tactical acumen to cement it long term, similar to Ole for us, I think someone like Ainsworth or Lindsey are more likely to succeed.

Not sure United will ever play that system, depends on what personnel are brought in, but you never know, would love to see three or four academy players making it into the first team squad in the next season or two.

Good luck with your new manager, and players for next season, see you at Sixfields.

Alabama but always Wales in my heart
That post from Fab is from January. The permanent deal has not been completed and it is way too late in the season for him to trigger the automatic permanent transfer clause. All signs point to him being back this summer. He is of course going to be available for sale as are practically all of our players at this point but I do not think he will be staying at Benfica as it stands.
